  • This truck bed cap is literally falling apart, but because I rely on it to cover my "garage" as a full time RVer, I have no choice but to restore it and repair all the damage.

    I really enjoyed watching you work with your dad and even your mom stepping in. My dad helped us with so many projects included replacing a rotted roof on our pop-up camper. He's gone now, but i treasure the time spent together. Thanks for the great video.

      Huge thanks to my Dad for always being willing to help with projects like this. Without him I wouldn't be able to tackle more involved projects like this. I'm glad you were able to make those happy memories with your Dad too 🙂

    hey David, they sell a a rubber gasket that goes in between the bed of the truck and your cap, you spray the gasket with color match. This allows cushion and movement of the shell with the body. It’s the friction between bed and shell that separating everything, the rubber gasket for Caps stops all that. Anyway good video, keep ‘em coming! 👍🏻🇺🇸

      @FateUnbound  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the tip! I'll look into rubber gaskets, maybe that'll help things from separating again.

    David, as always really enjoy your videos. We have a very similar camper shell and this will be very helpful when it comes time for us to make some repairs. Enjoyed watching you and your dad work on the project together. Safe Travels- Kyle and Michelle

      Hey guys! Let me know if you've got any questions if your camper shell fails in the way mine did. When I bought it used it was already in not so great condition, but I got it super cheap and didn't really think it'd fall apart the way it did haha. Remind me down the road and I'll let you know how the 5200 adhesive is holding up.

    The 5200 is indeed very strong stuff and I imagine it will work great for you. I just hope you don't ever need to remove it 🙂 Been there.

      @FateUnbound  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha yeah thats exactly what I read, for use in permanent applications that should never come apart. I'd be quite happy if the fiberglass shell never separates from the aluminum frame ever again. There's no reason for them to ever need to be separated. Let's hope it works!

    Good informational video. It's good you have the knowledge, tools and garage to do the work. Watching the videos, you make it look so easy to do. LOL

      @FateUnbound  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha thanks, but that's why I have to wait till I'm at my parents' house before tackling big projects like this. Plus, I have to give a ton of credit to my Dad, he has a lot more experience and knowledge than I do. That's why you see him applying the adhesive and spraying the paint on the truck.

    Make sure you check your frame and cross members for rust. Also the brake lines under the drivers side door and fuel lines. These are known to rust.

    Don't ever get rid of that truck. The new trucks today would break in a heart beat. I was recently car shopping and the technology is horrible.

      Oh yeah, I'm not letting my 2004 go any time soon. The 2004-2007 Duramax's are the most highly sought after since they don't have all the new emissions systems on them. I love this truck and will keep fixin' her up each time she needs it 👍
