This fits way more as a Classic-style Leader figure, not an MPM.
But...
I do love the silhouette this figure has.
The fact that it needs an upgrade kit for both its arms and legs should say something...
Good review. I like the look or it. And let's be honest. We aren't out in the backyard playing with these figures. They are just sitting on our shelves trying to look good. LOL If I find him on discount (hoping to find him at Ross) I would get him...that is if I ever do find him at all. Never did see Starscream at retail at all.

Just going to stick with the SS. Don't feel like I need a mp version of this. I've been slowly boxing up and storing movie toys as it is. They've just lost their charm for me.
I think the hardest part for me is seeing things like this on the shelf and not buying it just to feed the need.

Yeah it's a solid but unremarkable piece. Understandably going for a Takara-only would've made it even more pricey but I'd rather pay $200+ for a legit MP than a $100+ commander class figure with an MP label slapped onto it.

I don't keep track of everything but I'm sure there are multiple third party versions of this guy and more coming out for rise of the Beast
The non-painted may be similar plastic to the studio series release. Idk just a thought.

Well I order mine and while I didn't have enough points I definitely feel it's a $90-110 figure not $130+. Let alone TF source prices of $180+ just no. Looks like I'm going to like it even with some of its flaws.

If this is one of those figures I would sell 1st if I ever had to restructure my finances.
But then again, I skip MPM-7 Bumblebee and MPM-8 Megatron when I saw them at Ross way back. So maybe I'm just not a masterpiece movie fan.
TakaraTomy should get to work on their versions of MPM AoE Scrapyard Optimus Prime and MPM AoE/TLK Western Star Optimus Prime.
Are you kidding? Those figures would just another glorified and overpriced 2009 Leader class with the MP name.

This thing needs a vast overhaul in the engineering like the MPM-04 KO.
I honestly just don't like the cat ears In truck mode and the light piping for the eyes just suck. Luckily I had my bday coupon when I saw him at Target 😅 so i got him for a decent price for what he is imo

I don't like the hands and the bend in truck mode but you fix bend and his crotch is scraping the ground BUT if I see him I'm going to be in Target thinking real hard.

honestly, he would be much better received if it came out like 2 years ago.... But third-party toys like Freedom Leader make this MPM-12 look like a KO....
The third party version has better paint job, better sculpt, sharper details, more accessories, etc etc....Yes, the Hasbro one is "cheaper", but people who spend 180 bucks on a toy usually won't mind paying more to get a higher quality figure....
I like what Hasbro is doing with Kingdom and studio 86 series... but if they want to be able to compete with other company outside of G1 toys, they need to step up
I think it would have to be more than 2 years ago because the original Bay movie Masterpiece figure has better articulation and details
Hasbro has done better MPM's than this. MPM Jazz, Barricade, Bumblebee (2007), and even Ratchet are done better, for example. I really wanted this MPM Prime! I love the look in both bot and truck mode. But they phoned it in with the transformation and the legs in truck mode. The hands are terrible. If I find this on clearance (which I doubt) for about half the price (or even 40% off), then maybe. Very good review.
From what I've messed with as far as ratchet, I put him on the same level as this Optimus. It has only basic articulation that's hindered by the weird shoulder kibble And they didn't even bother to paint the face. It felt like a generations figure to me.
I don't know in what Shattered Glass-esque reality you are living but MPM Ratchet was actually worse in the engineering and more ugly than the kitty Prime
This things a mess. I have my never to be transformed toyworld (should of got 3A), but I would pick up the Weijiang's prime before I got this thing. Though you could get the leg and arms upgrade kits......
I heard the Wei Jiang one is getting a full-on reissue run, so try to preorder it if you can at Iacon Store it's damn good figure.

I think this is a good looking figure but compared to the 3A version this one looks like a shampoo bottle. I definitely prefer 3A but I do like the fact that he can transform into his vehicle mode, 3A can't.
Well, in that case you can get the Toyworld Freedom Leader. It looks pretty much the exact same as the 3A and can actually transform.

I got the OS Ss-38 and seems better than this.
I can't say that. The studio series legs don't even stay together

That rotf leader optimus is legendary. Im hoping for a time where we go back to out of scale transformers that are just awesome valued toys like that rotf optimus or even the one from potp
How is that kibble on the back of the arms? Remember when transformers creatively utilized the car parts into the bot mode so you could clearly see it was a vehicle that changed into a robot and vice-versa? Now everyone wants everything hidden and smooth. I am not a fan of shellformers but I'm also not a fan of transformers who's shells get completely tucked away and hidden. Also, isn't kibble primarily used when you can see robot parts sticking out in all mode?
This is a toy based upon a movie character. The movie characters have most of their kibble tucked away differently than what we see here.
This figure has several a compromise because of its limited engineering. In vehicle mode, damn near the whole lower half of the robot is still visible which isn't movie accurate and in robot mode, those big blocks from the truck are visible on the arms. So yes, it is kibble.
That wasn't even my main complaint in this video though so it's interesting that you latched on to that.

@@TMan978 Yeah TMan, we don't want reviewers to give us their honest thoughts about a product, just reinforce our purchase decisions. I mean who would want to know all the issues/problems a figure has so they can make an informed decision. That's just crazy.
