I practice Goju Ryu in Germany and found this video quite interesting and educational. You can bet that I'll be talking about randori at training on Monday with my instructor. You can train all of your life (which I have) and there is always much to learn.

Ah, greetings from South Africa! We dream of visiting Germany some day 🙇‍♂️ Ché has been training for 40 years (only 18 for me) but there is always something new for the enquiring mind 👏

Perfect, yes this type of randori flow drill is the closest to real life self defense, where you adapt to the aggressor movements.

Absolutely first-class stuff; your videos bring Goju Ryu alive as no others do. I have many years of experience (rokudan), but you remind me that one is never too old to learn and that there is always something new to discover.Thank you!

    Hello Ché and Zoe sensei.
I've looked countless times and found many good karate channels on TH-cam, and i can say that when it comes to traditional karate, this channel is one of the best!
I've been watching the videos for the last few weeks and I was impressed with the quality of the content, mainly because you focus more on traditional goju ryu karate than on WKF competitive karate.
I am 4th dan in goju ryu karate here in Brazil, and the vast majority of karate schools here are shotokan style, and those of goju ryu, like most, are focused on competitive karate.
The karate transmitted by you is the true Okinawan goju ryu, preserving the roots, very useful for self-defense and at the same time does not teach fancy techniques that do not work in combat and which we can see on some channels out there.
I really hope that your channel grows more and more and soon I will definitely be becoming a member.
I saw that you are posting content mainly on Fridays, and i would like to ask, if possible, that one day you make a video about short distance goju ryu techniques that are not allowed in shiai kumite tournaments, such as "hiza geri", "enpi uchi", "fumikomi" and other types of low kicks.
    Thanks in advance. Osu 🇧🇷🇯🇵🇿🇦

Such a generous and wonderful comment - I'm so sorry to be responding so late!
Thank you for the very, very kind words, and for seeing us as we are - a traditional channel trying to both preserve the best of Goju Ryu while sharing its benefits and depth with a wider audience. This is all we hope for, and we are proud of our channel's organic growth :)
Absolutely love the idea of a video focusing on the short range techniques - I always call Shotokan the bluetooth style because it is done at a distance, whereas Goju loves to get up in your grill :D
We actually have a fair number of viewers from Brazil, so I think Goju is growing there, but I don't know if we'll ever be bigger than Shotokan. Would love to visit again! I was there very briefly in 2004 on my way to Machu Picchu (very basic, I know) but I would love to see it again properly.
Thank you again for your beautiful comment - it is definitely going in my favourites file :)
      Best,
      Zoë & Ché

      @@GojuRyuKarateCentre I thank you 🙏🏼
I liked the term "bluetooth" for shotokan, because it makes a lot of sense hahaha
Unfortunately in Brazil traditional goju ryu schools are a minority and yet many of these schools train under WKF rules, so these close range techniques are not trained as they are prohibited in competitions.
Thank you for your attention to the video suggestion. I keep watching the videos and learning 👊🏼🥋

Amén!! Un placer encontrar senseis con esa idea del randori. En mi opinión, randori va de estudiar el combate, no de ganar o perder el combate.
    Un saludo.

Yes we do - we think that it's important to be able to handle groundwork, at least enough to get back on our feet ;)
Hoping we will do some standing to groundwork soon in a future video, especially before we lift the mats for summer 🪷

Great video! There are so many facets to work. Of the billions, one might consider a drill where you use goju vs common attacks. (Since that’s more likely than a karate trained thug). Example. Attacker models Bad boxing (or good boxing). You decide how to defend. Maybe level it up by allowing them add in push, pull, grab attempts with their punches/ slaps. Edit: This video might be an option (Attacker jab/crosses while you defend. maybe add counters after) th-cam.com/video/HUlHIP4psRc/w-d-xo.html
