  • Metasonix have made tube-based designs since 1998, so it’s about time we finally checked them out. These modules can go from subtle to brain-melting, so let’s explore how they’re used in various patches.

    Coming from a heavy guitar and bass background, these Metasonix modules are appealing, also...tubes!

      yeah very appealing

    Holy crap! I wish this was a freaking full length movie about Metasonix with demos interviews and performances. I'm trying to dive deeper into synthesis but I don't want to use virtual instruments. I want this. This totally combines my love of oddball tubes and actual circuits (not the "improved" cheap things ), with leaning about modular Eurorack ect. I wish more people had time to try something new (or old as it were) and inventive like this. Maybe we'd finally hear something different on the radio and not just at modular conventions. Great review.

    Love the use of the PO-12 as a source.

    I have both, and they are f***ing amazing ,,, really power hungry but they worth it 😋

      They are power hungry definitely, got to move them around a bit in my cases but well worth it! :)

      I know this was 3 years ago but DAMN I'd love to be able to say that. I hope you still have them and are using them. I'm not usually much for material possessions but.. no, you know what?, it's fine.. I'm good.. lol

    I picked up an erica fusion VCA v2... it's also pleasantly microphonic. Though the tube is tiny and hard to finger flick.
    It pings when patching. 🤓😁

      G when I plug a patch cable into the module, or flip the drive switch, there's a pleasant little ping sound made regardless of any audio input.
      "Microphonics or microphony describes the phenomenon wherein certain components in electronic devices transform mechanical vibrations into an undesired electrical signal (noise)."
      I'd argue that in eurorack, it's a feature, not a flaw.

    Not sure if the distortion we hear comes from the tube or from the mordax data.
    If the signal is as hot as what my m277 spits, you can't feed it back to the mordax data unattenuated.
    What happens if you try to plug it in your soundcard directly? if it has enough headroom, my guess is that most of the harsh distortion will be gone.
    Not sure though since it doesn't seem to be powered by an external power adaptor.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all from the modules, nothing from elsewhere in the signal chain. I'm really careful with that. These modules don't take external power but use the cases power instead.

      and did you need to use the Metasonix power supply for it due to higher power requirements?

    Your tapping on the tube at the beginning of the video loosened it and now it's Fucking crackling -.-

    modular is nice but most sounds can be done in the box these days..

    • @dajjebajje
      @dajjebajje 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well... that's not really the point, is it? A hardwired synth will never be as personal as a modular gets from artist to artist

    • @dvdny
      @dvdny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Kind of agree. Just about every modular function can be replicated in Reactor, Max, or Reason, but it’s not as ‘easy’ or intuitive as seeing a physical patch cable connecting modules.

      Dreux Donelan indeed,for me when i have inspiration ,it must go fast without losing to much time,cabling,patching and then recording the sound ,i would use this tool to create sounds when im not busy 😄

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      cabling and patching often is the inspiration for a lot of people. Definitely agree about an experience user flying through something in the box though. For me it's about using both together and making the most of what each thing is good at.
