Wow! So much happening in this video, I don’t know where to start. Firstly, thank you Larry - and it’s so nice to see your face. 🙂 It was so sweet when Freddie offered Kayembe a taste of her food - not sure what it was - maybe bark? Also, fascinating to see Nneka taking an interest in her baby boy, and great to know that he’s comfortable with her, but Freddie is clearly the one he runs to for care and comfort. Can he see you filming him? Sometimes it looks like he’s staring straight at the camera and is curious about it. Anyway, thanks again for sharing his development with all of us - even all the way down here in Tasmania, Australia! 🙏😄
Thanks for following along and commenting. Kayembe probably sees me, but there are usually many other people nearby. I do my best to keep others off camera.--I try to enter the zoo as soon as it opens. Then, rush almost a mile, to get to gorilla exhibit first. Sometimes I’m there 10 minutes before other guests arrive. I try to make the most of those first few minutes.
Kayembe's birth on TH-cam was my first "gorilla" experience. I sent a donation to choose his name. He is adorable. Now I'm addicted to gorillas. My little Ringo at the Taipei Zoo is adorbes also.
Larry, this is a true “gem”! Seeing Kayembie as small as Jamella (sorry if I spelled these wrong) is such a treat. I love your recent videos that showcase him STILL running to Freddie for comfort. He absolutely knows his mommy!!! Freddy is such a wonderful mother. ❤
He just keeps getting cuter and cuter! Wow… birth mom Nneka actually held him. That is good considering she might have another baby in the future and will now k ow what to do. However, Kayembe’s mommy is amazing Freddy. The love they share is so beautiful to see. She is is mommy no doubt about it! Thank you so much Larry! You are the best!
She is my favorite mom! So patient and ❤️ing I also notice she has never taken food from his mouth like the others. Maybe it's because she knows he is teething
What a perfect little guy at age one, what happened? He has grown into a robust healthy fellow. It’s unbelievable how strong and agile gorillas are, another wonder from God.
Yep, 6-5-74. I’ve heard someone at the zoo say she has had 7 infants. Didn’t have a chance to ask questions. Wonder if some did not make it. Do you know of a database that provides history of gorillas? I do not have any details on that.
Larry, wonderful to meet you! I wish all the videographers would introduce themselves. Lovely vid-these two are quite something! Whatever is Fredricka eating? Looks like a piece from a waxed produce box. And Kayembe with the strange lettuce: ‘‘Should I eat this, or wear it?‘‘ Over and over again I‘m utterly stunned by Fredricka, 48! Hoping that her stepping up to be Kayembe‘s mom will serve to keep her young . . .
Yes, it is part of a box the keepers used to bring out the gorillas lettuce. Don’t be alarmed, the dyes on the cardboard are not toxic to them. Also keep in mind the gorillas stomach can digest grasses, tree bark and branches. Thanks for your question. 👍😁
No statements have been made by the zoo about that. Couple notes: the female gorilla belly’s do stick out- that’s normal. The gorilla reproduction possibilities are controlled by the species survival plan for gorillas. In general, they are on birth control. ( see aza.org for general SSP details)
@@larrysanimalsafari eu sei que eles comem casca de árvore e não é ruim, mas papelão não é bom para os intestinos, se puder evitar colocar no ambiente deles é melhor

😁 If you had to have an addiction, that’s a good one to have. Glad you enjoy watching. 👋

Jameela clings onto her leg like that 😂😂

Nice work Larry - Rick and Peg from Nashville trip
Thank you! Glad to have you on board! ( Had a really nice time, thanks for coming along) 😁
Larry, yes, Fredricka turned 48 in June! Strangely enough, the first two of her four children were hand-reared. She‘s making up for it with Kayembe!

The general info given by others is that she has “raised” 4 infants of her own.
Kayemba is the cutest. Frederic’s is such a good mommy. Thank you for sharing
👍. You are welcome.
Just look at him biting on that lettuce 🥬 😂😂
👍😁

Thanks so much for all your videos! I truly appreciate your work so that we too can follow his journey. 🌸🌸
👍 You are welcome. Thanks for your feedback. 😁
Would love to have seen more! This is awesome
Yep, sometimes there is lots of resting and gorillas keeping backs turned to people.
The end poor Freedy is my baby 🥲
I see you’re catching up on older videos. Good work. 👍😁
@@larrysanimalsafari yes all videos are beautiful gorillas make me so happy 😍🤗
Is she really eating a piece of cardboard?
Yes, it is part of a box the keepers used to bring out the gorillas lettuce. Don’t be alarmed, the dyes on the cardboard are not toxic to them. Also keep in mind the gorillas stomach can digest grasses, tree bark and branches. Thanks for your question. 👍😁
Approximately, how much does the baby weigh now?
Estimate is 13 pounds.
@@larrysanimalsafari Thank you.
👋😁
Larry, is Nneka pregnant again? It looks like she has put on weight.

@@larrysanimalsafari Thanks Larry. I haven't seen her in a year. Maybe the weight is still from having Kayembe.
Larry, how old is Freddie and has she had other babies?
Freddy is 47 and she has had 4 babies.
@@kimhaveman3628 thank you for your response! Have a great day!
👍😁
Update, I better check those birthdays. I think Freddy turned 48 recently
Thanks Larry- I didn’t know that. 👍I do know her last baby was a girl named Alice
eu acho que não deveriam dar papelão para eles comerem
It is not meant to be eaten, they mostly chew on things. FYI. They do eat tree bark .
@@larrysanimalsafari eu sei que eles comem casca de árvore e não é ruim, mas papelão não é bom para os intestinos, se puder evitar colocar no ambiente deles é melhor
Is Fredericka eating cardboard in this video?
Yes, it was a box that I believe contained fresh produce .
I imagine it’s a mild change from eating branches and tree bark along with their produce.
Very interesting! I cannot wait to visit the Cleveland Zoo and see Kayembe in person! I’m planning a trip for September.
Sounds great. Kayembe should be Very active by then.
