    Fredricka treats Jameela like one of her own. What an amazing momma!! I am sure the zoo staff that sent Jameela are so relieved that Fredericka is taken real good care of her as if she was her own. I know that I love 💕 seeing this myself. So relieved. Thank you for the update, Larry! I know that everyone was on pins and needles. Fredricka, you are amazing!! 😊Fredricka deserves a plaque for such an amazing mamma!!!

      There’s a lot of good things but, the lack of space is a big problem. These beings have a large territory in the wild.

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @barbaratardy9788 They once had even larger territories but we humans are destroying that. Large territories allow them to search for fresh food. Zoos provide all the food they will need. In the recent past (30 years) zoos are dedicating larger areas to accommodate their needs.

      Why do they give gorillas these horrible names? I love the name, Freddy, though

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      @judithheard6079 Generally, In Cleveland anyway, they research names that are used in their home country. Sometimes the zoo picks from those choices, sometimes they list them and have the public pick them. Who knows, they might be the most popular names in their home countries but are unfamiliar to you and I.

      @@larrysanimalsafari Zoos also educate the public on conservation of natural habitat. At the same time they provide as natural and environment as possible for animals that were either bread in captivity or stolen from the wild. They also provide critical breeding programs that keep endangered populations going. No one ever wants to see a wild animal live in a zoo, but because of human interference sadly Zoos will be the only place humans will be able to see certain species.

    Thank you Larry. Kayembe is such a sweet mischievous little boy. Freddie's got her hands full with a new baby and toddler, but she seems to be doing a great job as mum. Kayembe so desperately wants to play with his sisters. When Kunda gets stronger, and mum lets her explore more it will be double trouble for all of the parents. I love how Kayembe got into the hammock before Freddie could get to it. Jameela, looked relaxed and happy like the little princess she is.💖💖🦍

    Jameela is gripping onto her new mommy. That’s nice that Freddie, is that her name, takes a moment to quickly play with the little guy. She seems very protective of Jameela. It’s pretty amazing that some of them will just adopt a non-related baby and care for it like it’s their own. Freddie has her hands full.

    It is truly a wonderful thing that Jameela can be raised by a gorilla mom in a troop just like it is supposed to be. Thanks to all the zoo personnel for their hard work in helping this to happen. It's really fascinating to watch the youngsters at their somewhat different developmental stages. Kunda is getting ready to stretch that connection between her and her mom and move a little further away and do her own thing. Both human and gorilla moms have to be doubly vigilant at that stage! Kayembe is all toddler all the time! And neither Mama Freddie nor Mama Kebi seem to be afraid of letting him know where the line is, especially with the two younger babies! Poor little guy is finding out that getting to be the big boy isn't always as much fun as you might think. But he'll have those playmates he wants soon enough and then what fun! Thanks, Larry, for showing us folks in Texas how our little girl is doing.

    Larry I'm new to your channel and the only complaint I have is ..... The videos aren't long enough 😂. I enjoy your videos of the Gorilla family so much. You catch all the action. I like the fact you don't play annoying music because I can hear the keepers talking in the back ground and other people at the zoo. I've heard some interesting things about the Gorilla's. I like that you're caption is large enough for my old eyes to see and I don't have to speed read them or pause and back up to see what you wrote.

      She was raised by zoo because her mother rejected her, unfortunately they didn’t have a foster mom and she is proof why they do so much better raised by a gorilla. It made her more vocal (yelling) which most gorillas bark and she doesn’t get along with others s
      occasionally. I think she’s happy as long as someone doesn’t grab food she has eyed/

      I haven't watched all the videos about Genki and her boys. I did read that they took Gentaro from her because she wasn't producing enough milk and they were concerned. Then when Kintaro was born, she didn't have enough milk again. But she refused to let them remove him. They had to get creative with supplements for her, more food for her, and supplemental bottles for Kintaro. That could very well be Kebi's mindset since her first was taken away from her.

    Another brilliant video - thanks so much, Larry❣️Little Kunda’s solo adventure all the way over to the glass was especially adorable. 🥰 I do feel sorry for poor Tusa - I’m so glad Kayembe went to check in with her after she was scolded by Mokolo. She looked so sad.😞 I guess it just shows how important it is for gorilla infants to be socialised with other gorillas as early as possible, rather than being raised by humans, as I believe was the case with Tusa. Luckily baby Jameela wont suffer the same fate. It’s tough that Tusa was moved away from the people who raised her - I hope she has a close human friend among the keepers at Cleveland - someone who gives her special attention and interacts with her behind the scenes. ❤

      When Larry explained the purpose of the black vest that the staff wear when handling Jameela I was surprised because it took me back to when my son was an infant. He's 40 years old now, and I never understood why he clutched my clothing so tightly while nursing.

    Kayembe reminds me so much of our daughter when our son was born. Living in this weird place of what is THAT?! Why is it with MY mom?! IT MUST GO and Awwww, its so little! I will murder anything that THINKS of hurting it!! Because she went from all the attention to less than half for a little bit when we first brought him home. I don't know how long it takes gorillas, but it took our little human primate a while to figure out she didn't have to share our love with him. Our love grew to include him too.
    Both mamas are doing great protecting their babies from a jealous brother. From what all the other zoo channels show, its normal. He's behaving exactly as expected and when they are big enough to play with, it'll be a different ballgame.

    Great video! Kayembe is being a stinker today, so cute! How he is with Kundi reminds me of the gorilla brothers Lope and Shufai when they were young. Jameela looks healthy and happy. Thanks for sharing!🩷

    I love how you document the troop up there in Cleveland. I am in Columbus but plan on going to see the troop next time I go to visit my son. I love seeing the babies and of course chuckle everytime Kayembe tries to loot one of his siblings. I do understand the hierarchy in a troop, but I still can't help but feel sorry for Tusa. I worry about her being on the bottom of the pecking order because I have seen what can happen to the more sensitive gorillas. (Genki, before they transferred her to a new zoo to be alone, she had chewed her own finger off from being the lowest female)

    Larry when the youngsters and babies use adult gorillas heads for bongo's is that about love taps? They all seem to do it all over the world at different zoos. The use of the eyes by the Apes for comunication would have made interesting material for my senior year thesis. My teacher loves ved the information I had on Apache Indians practicing mental telepathy. My thesis was on communication since I had been a part -time radio DJ for two years. As you can tell I just love the Apes. Jameela has a home. My sister, a Texan, says rhe people she knows in Texas are just thrilled at the progress of Jameela and Freddy.

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The head taps I’ve seen seem to have one or two goals. 1) to tease or invite the other gorilla into play, or 2) I’m frustrated and not getting what I want, I.e. attention from you or play. Sometimes they’re light, sometimes hard. Thanks for sharing a bit of your experience. (My BA degree was in Communication (Interpersonal) with minor in Psychology.

    I wish they would pipe in sound from the room so that we could hear vocalizations. I’m local and am dying to visit, but it seems pretty crowded.

    • @larrysanimalsafari
      @larrysanimalsafari  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s what I have hoped for. To hear their low grunts or a babies noises would really be something. Maybe the Primate Forest the zoo has planned may give us that. 🤞
