Training Harley to Potty in a Specific Place

- For this Council Bluffs dog training session we were called in to teach a quartet (Chihuahua mix Cali, Australian Shepherd Bonzo, Australian Shepherd Harley & Lab mix Daisy) of dogs to potty in one part of the yard.

What I did was, when my dog finally pooped in a small dirt area of my backyard and I was near her I praised her like a mad man while she pooped and more when she was done. After that ONE time she would only pee and poo in that spot. I loved my husky.

Me too, but I am going to do it now.
Use the crate method again and always take to the spot on leash. Just be patient they will learn.
My dog is fully potty trained.. I just need him to potty in a specific area of the back yard. I will try this method for 3 weeks and give my feedback

Oh my goodness! I have had my dog for four years. He has never peep or pooped in our home. We didn’t have a fence when we got him so we took him on walks. We fenced in our yard two years ago and he loves to play in it and will pee in the yard but he will not and has never pooped in our yard😣 I have even brought his poops back to the yard and cannot get him to do his business in the yard. I am tired of having to walk in the weather especially after spending 5,000. to fence in our yard for this reason.
I wish I was in your position. My kids can’t even enjoy our little yard due to our dogs poop remains. Unless it’s completely solid their will always be poop left behind on the grass.
HI. I have the same sentiments as yours. We have a 7mos old golden retriever that never poop to the yard, instead he poops on his training pad every time I give in standing in our yard waiting for him to do business and walks him back to our house, then he will go straight to his pad. He's used to do business on a pee pad - since we got him 3 months old until he's 6th we never let him out because of parvo. And now he is 7 month old we want him to do it outside. How's your dog? Did he finally go in your yard? And what did you do? Thanks!

Nice video, any suggestions for a dog that will only poop on a walk, we have a nice big fenced yard that she refuses to poop in. Unfortunately when it's bad weather we rather not have to go out for a walk. Thx ;-)
Any videos on that potty spot? How you built it, how it holds up, odor, pests, if you have to clean the pee off, etc?

hello, you have 4 dogs, so you bring them to this spot one by one or together? if bring them together, how about the possiblity some will step on other dog's poo? and if you bring them one by one, it is possible the others will not hold after eating when you bring the one. how to handle them, please let me know.thanks

I got a new dog from the pound about 3 months back. She’s a large Belgian shepherd. She’s a good natured and well behaved dog(mostly). Unfortunately though she has turned my beautiful yard into a mine field with urine burn marks everywhere. She’s 35kg but looking at the evidence you’d think she was even bigger, and she just drops them wherever. I arrived home after dark the other night and had to rush to retrieve my laundry from the clothes line as it had started raining. I had bare feet. It wasn’t nice at all.

I’d like to know more about the potty area. Turf? Rocks? What would you suggest for building a designated potty space?
I did real grass but I can’t stand outside for long periods of time for a puppy to learn so I just decided the front of our lawn immediately outside of our door. I make sure to always have baggies for poop pick up. Seems to be working better
So how would I go about training all 7 of my dogs so do it 😅😅

At what point do you stop giving treats for going potty in the designated spot? Or do you always give them a treat?
That’s what I’d like to know. I feel like my dog would expect a treat every time forever.
Once they know the command and toilets on command stat to reduce the amount of treats and i would increase the verbal and physical reward so lot of praise and strokes. So if you give 5 treat jackpot. Give 5 one day 4 the next few 3 the next few 2 the next few 1 the next few then 1 every other time they go for the next few days. Still with high praise and strokes. Eventually you can phase it out.
It all depends on your dog though. My dogs would be able to stop alot sooner but i dont really train with treats mines love praise and strokes. Good luck

@@natalie1915 I don’t know but my neighbors dog will only unload his massive bowels on my lawn. His dog is over 100LBS and the poop is massive that I clean up daily
The reason why I'm here my dog poos and our yard and my neighbours I don't mind him going in mine but I can't keep letting him go in my neighbours .

wow its been 3 years
my dog is holding poop and pee in for dear life. transitioning from puppy pads inside to puppy pads out in the patio. she has pooped in a whole day and still hasnt pooped today..
The neighbors are going to love that in the summer when their windows are open just trying to get some fresh air. Oooof

My dog is so used to ONLY peeing if hes going to mark while on our walk and its such a pain in the ass having to take him out to the backyard every 30 minutes jusy to atand there for 10 minutes and watch him not pee of poop lol maube he'll pee once for like 3 seconds.
My garden has a concrete part that is fenced off from the large grass area, my dog toilets in the yard area and is banned from the grass cus my parents don't like him poopin in the grass. It's a shame cus he can't do a proper run on concrete. They said it's up to me to teach him to not poop in the grass cus they don't believe he can learn. He already knows to poop in the yard, how do I teach him not to poop in the grass?
isnt potty training a dog to go on the grass like the silver trophy of dog training? I'm not trying to be a smart ass but where do you're parents expect it to go? off the property on someone else's? in public or community spaces?

That was MY question. We just got a new house and our dog uses the same spot. When we start landscaping the backyard I want to relocate his potty area.
