Hello everyone, hope you enjoy this look at 'A Christmas Carol' filming locations! You can view the locations featured in this video on this map which I've put together: www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1xDh_jzfWgctFbU3i9nck97z5rbQrKxE&usp=sharing Merry Christmas and thank you for the incredible support you've all blessed me with this year.
Your research skills are, as always, truly phenomenal. A very Happy Chritmas to you and yours too, Rob. With many thanks for all your fascinating content, and best wishes from Oxford!
The 1951 film is my favourite by far. I didn't think too many locations would be still standing given the rapacious development of the capital so hat's off to you Rob for a fantastic video. God bless us. Everyone!
I love "A Christmas Carol"! Ever since my dad first read it to me, I fell in love with this story. I think I like it so much because everyone gets a happy ending.
As a Londoner living in Shrewsbury it was great to see my two home towns featured so heavily. Marley's ghost gets me every time, even in the Muppet version. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
I'm of the generation that loves a bit of Dickens at Xmas which is one of the few links that remains to earlier, magical Xmases. What a lot of research you have carried out here. Well done.
I really appreciate that Neal, thank you. It did require a lot of research and travelling, but I enjoyed it very much- I adore the story and its adaptations, and it's an absolute honour and pleasure to share my love of it with you.
As a big Dickens fan, this is superb Rob. Hadn't realised how much of his existence was lost to so called progress. Thank you for such a brilliant indulgence and a very Happy Christmas to you and yours!
A thoroughly charming seasonal video, and many thanks for putting it together. Of the various Scrooges available on film, I think Alistair Sim was the most convincing.
Christmas would not be the same without Dickens. Well done Rob for an amazing tour and putting us all in a festive mood. Time for Mulled Wine and Mince pie's me thinks. Wishing you the very best compliments of the season.
Lovely to see Scrooge's gravestone has been repaired. I was gutted when I heard someone had smashed it. The George C Scott film is second only to the Alastaira Sim version, in my opinion - a great performance and ingenious use of Shrewsbury locations, most of which haven't changed much.
You’ve outdone yourself, Rob! Brilliant! A few years ago we watched as many versions of A Christmas Carol as we could find, it was good fun, we wrote a report. A very happy Christmas to you and yours!
Rob, it’s not Sunday but any night your videos are always welcome So much research and travel bought together in this excellent work Judging by the date this could possibly be the last video for 2024 Thanks for this years videos All the best for Christmas and a happy new year
That's so kind of you to say Nick, thank you my friend. Especially on the narration... this was a difficult one to do as I had a bit of a cold!! Many thanks again and merry Christmas :-)
Absolutely top work, Rob. As someone who works in London, I find your content fascinating. This one is exceptional. Many thanks for what you do and a very Happy Christmas!
It wouldn't be Christmas without Scrooge. You have done a wonderful job especially with the different locations. So glad you added the Muppets version as well for contrast. Have a wonderful Christmas ❤❤
Thanks! My favourite, the Patrick Stewart one, I watch it nearly every year. Interesing to hear about the locations, especially the "school" and bridge, which are not that far from me.
Absolutely first class. Yet another brilliant video. I can't believe how much information and trivia you manage to discover when researching the subject. Thanks for all your hard work.....and Merry Christmas!🍻
One of your best! The 1951 version is by far my favorite, but the additional versions you highlighted are excellent honorable mentions. Thanks so much for producing and sharing this wonderful video. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄 CHEERS!!!🍻
Great video and tour Rob, thanks so much. Of all the adaptations you profiled, my personal favorite is the 1984 version. David Warner is perfect as Bob Cratchit and the young actor portraying Tiny Tim can't help but touch the even the coldest heart. Overall just a stellar cast and performances from everyone. Edward Woodward is great. Loved him ever since his American TV show, The Equalizer.
Wonderful comment, thank you. I really like David Warner; was gutted when he died. I watched an interview with him for this and he said he was originally meant to play Marley’s ghost!
That was fun! New viewer to your channel. Looking forward to more. The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol has always been my favorite, followed by the 1984 version. I just watched the 1935/36 version and enjoyed that as well. Merry Christmas!
Alistair Sim's portrayal is the best because his conversion seems complete. I do enjoy the Muppet and Mickey Mouse Christmas Carol every Christmas. I love this story it never fails to inspire me.
Thank you so very much for this grad tour! I am unlikely to ever travel there, and walk these streets myself. My favorite version will always be the one with Alistair Sim as Scrooge. Happy Christmas, Rob!
I was surprised by George C Scott as Scrooge. I first saw this version in the early 90s. Amazingly this was filmed in Britain but was not premiered on British television. It premiered on CBS at Christmas 1984, but for people in Britain, they had to go to the cinema to see it. It finally got its British television premiere on ITV on Christmas Eve 1989. I saw it a few years later, and was impressed with George C Scott. I thought an American portraying an Englishman would be wrong, but he was decent at it.
What a wonderful production! Thank you so much. It wouldn’t be Christmas without A Christmas Carol and you’ve nicely connected the classic story to modern times and locations. Thank you for all the research and filming. Happy Christmas 🎄!
Usual messages! Another scholarly half hour 👍 and not a "wow" in sight.👍👍👍 And Merry Christmas to you and a productive New Year for all our benefit as viewers and subscribers.
Well Rob I’m glad you did include Muppets Christmas Carol as it’s my favourite! 😂 I love the Alistair Sim version too. In fact I love all versions of this including the cheesy modern ones. Really interesting as always to see all the locations - you’ve clearly put a lot of work into it. I hope you and your family have a happy and healthy Christmas ❤
I absolutely loved this. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to go to all the locations (plus the research). My favourite film is the 1951 movie and seeing many of the locations still there is really heartening. Hard to describe but your video brought me closer to those no longer here who I've enjoyed watching the Christmas carol with over the years :)
Paul, thank you so much for this comment. I found your words very moving; it's an absolute pleasure and honour to share these locations with you. Stay well my friend; thank you again and best wishes this Christmas to you and your family.
Rob excellent video. Thought the Alister Sim is my favorite, I had not seen the Patrick Stewart version which we are watching right now. My other favorite is the Blackadder version of the story. Merry Christmas Rob. Chris and Sandra of Canada.

Just wonderful Rob. A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite books. I love this channel. Have a Happy Christmas yourself and I hope you'll be able to keep up the great work you do.
Great video Rob thank you. Aged 10 I was taken by the school to see the 1951 version which was then 12 years old. Oddly the cinema that they chose was one which had a reputation for normally showing adult continental films. I liked your comments towards the perpetrators of the damage to the gravestone. Damage like that seems malicious and purposeful and hardly the work of the normal random vandal. Thank s to the firm who repaired it.
Thanks Rob, entertaining and informative as always from my favourite youtube channel. I visited Scandrett St, as mentioned in your video, on my last trip to London - location of fictitious pub The Lion and Unicorn in my favourite film - The Long Good Friday.
Thank you! I really wanted to mention the Long Good Friday but felt it would stray too much from the video! That, and also the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in the 1984 film was played by Michael Carter… who in ‘An American Werewolf in London’ is the fellow attacked by the wolf at the tube station! 🤣
Wonderful video, Rob! Thanks so much for posting. Growing up, the only 2 “A Christmas Carol” films that were shown on US tv were the ones starring Alistair Sims (my favorite) and Reginald Owen. Thank you for this superbly researched, scripted and filmed tour around the filming locations of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. You never cease to amaze me with your incredible talent and dedication to making accurate and beautiful content. Thanks for being you! Merry Christmas Rob🎅🎄🥂❤😊
What an excellent and fascinating documentary Rob. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I have to say that, purley because I used to watch it with my kids, the Muppet version remains my favourite. I am also a great fan of Michael Caine. We had a VHS version that included that song. Very moving. Did you notice that the shop in the background of the scene you showed was named Micklewhites? Anyway Merry Christmas to you and your family my friend . Lance
Wow those locations are amazing and I will now settle down in my old armchair with a pint of sherry in my hand so thanks a lot for the video and a Merry Christmas to you 😊
The 1951 is my favorite, Alistair Sim being the best Scrooge, and the 1970 version with Albert Finney is #2--Sir Alec Guinness is incredible as Marley!
Arhh Rob that was brilliant. You got some good footage and i like and appreciate the film clips you interspersed into the location footage. Really good, and Shrewsbury looks interessting.. I recently watched the muppets Christmas carol, which is a version ive added to my Christmas movie list. Merry Christmas Rob and God us us everyone!
Wow literally didn’t expect to see the Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick in a Robs London video! I know it well I was pupil at Warwick School and grew up just outside Warwick 😊
Rob, this is the 2nd time I’m sure I have already seen this. The first time when you did the source of the Thames. Perhaps it’s s because I’m also Rob living in South East London and you are channelling your videos to me somehow! Great video as usual.

I really appreciate that Neal, thank you. It did require a lot of research and travelling, but I enjoyed it very much- I adore the story and its adaptations, and it's an absolute honour and pleasure to share my love of it with you.
Alistair Sim is the ONLY Scrooge.. Scene on the stairs when his maid thinks he's gone mad is magic
I would love to portray the maid in some version.
During this time of year, I try and watch all of my versions. I also like MR. MAGOOS x-mas CAROL with the hauntingly beautiful song WINTER HAS WARM.
Love mr Magoo ;-)
Razzleberry dressing!
