- Taking inventory of what’s in our freezers is a great and efficient way to end the year and participating in the #threeriverschallenge from Jessica @threerivershomestead is an amazing start to the new year!
I have taken a thorough inventory of our freezers (and our pantry) and we are ready to start January 1st 🎉

We keep a magnet pad list of our freezer contents, so that whenever something is added or taken out, it gets marked on the pad.
That’s a great idea!! I’ll look into that, thank you 😊
You have a great inventory of food! I love doing this challenge every January.
Thank you Lidia! I really enjoy the challenge as well ☺️
Knowing what is in the freezer really helps so we don't overbuy run out of certain types of meat.
So true! I hope to be more vigilant about it from now on 🤞
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead We are working on it. Making it better not perfect. Having things in baskets helps with upright freezer. One basket for chicken etc. Depends on what freezer you have and how it works for your family.
Instead of bags, I use Amazon boxes with the lids cut off. I fill each with one thing (chicken breasts in one; chicken thighs in another). I write on the side of the box in thick black marker and just use the boxes like drawers. I can utilize the lost space at the top of each section by cutting the boxes almost as tall as they can go and don’t have to worry about things sliding off the shelves. I usually wrap packing tape around the top of the box before I fill it. That keeps the box from ripping as I pull each "drawer" in and out.
Awesome idea Linda! And I have no shortage of Amazon boxes 😉 I can see how it will save on space, Thanks for the tip ☺️
We do the pantry challenge a well but we only do January .
Hi Holly, we started with only doing January too but I can and preserve more food than usual lately so we’re going for the two months 😬 This really could be a challenge 😉😂
In the future you can always defrost the big roast, cut into steaks and then refreeze or meal prep. If you have a saw though I would just cut from frozen into 2" steaks, scrap the steaks with the back of a knife to remove any filliment of meat then put back in the freezer individually
I still haven’t done anything with them but I think the saw thing is the best idea! Good idea about the back of the knife trick too 😉
Thanks Liza!
I did my freezer inventory earlier this week. I live in Michigan and it happened to be the week when an Arctic Vortex settled over our area. My freezers are in the garage and I thought I would certainly get frostbite even with gloves on. I enjoyed your video!
Thank you! I don’t know what I was thinking not bringing gloves downstairs with me 🤦🏻♀️ my fingertips were frosty the rest of the day 🥶
I just found your channel with this video popping into my feed. I'm doing the Jan/Feb pantry challenge too, and love homestead channels, so had to sub!
Hello and welcome to our homestead! It’s wonderful how many folks are participating in the pantry challenge ☺️
Great job! My husband has been on a rye bread kick lately and mentioned he wanted to make some in the bread machine, of course I couldn't find rye flour anywhere locally so I ordered some on Amazon, excited to try it! We just have 1 chest freezer in the garage and I use bags too, they are great for keeping like things together. Enjoyed the video, Happy New year to you and Frank!
I haven’t found one particular rye recipe I’ve fallen in love with yet. I keep trying different ones 🤣 Frank loves them but I’m fussier 😉
The bags are the only thing I could come up with that we’re pliable enough and they seem to work!
Wishing you and your family a wonderful healthy and Happy New Year 💜
The roasts i get from a farmer friend close by( i am in St-chrysostome) are about the same size, and we are just two of us also, so once its cooked i usually run the rest in my slicer and freeze it cooked to make subs or other sandwiches. I need to go through my freezer too 😮😂
Ohhh that’s a good idea too! (I love steak and pepperoni subs 😉). The butcher we used was in St. Stan. I was really pleased with everything I just don’t know why the roasts are so big 🤷🏻♀️Thanks so much for the tip!
Great job! Always worth the effort.
Thanks Brenda 😀 it felt really good having it done!
Good job on your freezer inventory! Love your channel! Keep your videos coming!
Thank you so much Jane! I really appreciate your support 😀
Well done! I love organzing so I pretty much know everything we have in our freezer and fridge. I normally take stock of everything on a weekly basis before buying anymore groceries, etc. I started being more diligent about this back when the covid outbreak started and the rrising cost of gasoline (and everything else). Jessica@threerivershomestead is one of my favorite youtubers and an amazing lady. I have never joined her challenge but enjoy seeing what others are doing. I look forward to all of your videos and I know your challenge video will ba wonderful. Wishing you & Frank a very Happy & Blessed New Year! 💙💙💙
I’ve been keeping a mental stock of things but clearly that wasn’t working 😉😂
Jessica @threerivershomestead is my homestead/TH-cam goddess 💜 She has taught me so much but beyond that I appreciate how genuine and authentic her and her family are…
Happy New Year Carolyn 🎉 Blessings of health and happiness to you and Steve 💜
Thank you for that inspirational video. I am doing the pantry challenge as well, but I live in the Netherlands, where freezers and pantry's like you have are not very common. But I love to be prepared and have plenty of food and other things, because, well, there is a lot going on in Europe right now... Happy New Year and Godspeed!
Hello! Welcome to our homestead ☺️ I visited Amsterdam in 2011 and instantly fell in love with everything…the buildings, canals, markets, shops, countryside, food but especially the people 💜 And I totally understand what you mean about the pantry and freezer. It’s so very sad what’s happening in Europe…
Happy New Year to you too 🎉
Hello, there is just my husband and me! Your freezer’s came out very nice. The chunk’s of beef that are big could you cook them the way they are and can or freeze the meat after it’s cooked, just a thought. New to canning having great time with learning everything. Looking forward to watching everyone videos for pantry challenges. Thank you for the video. 👧🏻
Hi Lyn, great idea! I didn’t even think of canning the extra meat 🤦🏻♀️ It’s just a shame being that it’s a good cut of meat that (to me) should be eaten fresh 🥩 Thank you so much! 😀
You always seem so organized! Bet your hands were pretty cold after doing all that!
Couldn’t feel my fingertips at the end 🥶😂 (Frank wasn’t home and I didn’t have the energy to go back upstairs and get a pair of gloves 😞) Lesson learned for the next inventory 😉
With the beef roast cook and can it
That’s a great idea Mary, thanks! It just doesn’t seem right canning prime rib but I bet it will be extra tender 😉
