I´m a danish teacher and I show this series to all my 11 yo pupils. You learn about nature, about Greenland and about responsibility. Great series about great lads and their job.

When I was in the danish Army ( 1978-1985 ) I applied for Sirius, but I was not good enough.... but boy I would have been so proud.

Indeed. I only got one haircut a year in Greenland, usually in late June or early July. I also got to know Alfred Olsen, he was working as a demolitions expert on a construction site I passed on my way to work in the morning (you cannot really build without blowing holes in the rock in Greenland as it is all rock). He noticed I was wearing my uniform (Danish Home Guard, which was the best and most practical outsoors clothes I have) and waved me over one morning for a chat. He was still very proud of having served, and been the first Greenlander in Sirius. Nice guy who still used his dogsled until two years ago. I believe he moved to Denmark about the same time I moved back here from Sisimiut (2022).
And storms in Greenland is something else.
Yes the dogs are outside. They prefer it that way, even in -32 and blizzard, they do not use their little doghouses. They just roll up in the snow and they are so well insulated that the snow in the fur does not melt.

A funny story from a Sirius soldier I met last year during my job with the Danish Border Control Unit in the Danish Defense.
He said that the strange thing about the long spring tour was that, after a while, you ran out of things to talk about. You had told all your jokes, talked about all your girlfriends and wives, shared funny and exciting experiences, and even told all your little lies. So, some days, you just didn't say anything. Just a "good morning" and a "good night." It took some time, but eventually, it was actually quite nice not to say anything. You were just there. Together on the task. All masks were off, and it was just you and him. Two people...

Haha! The “well young” guy was one of my sergeants when I did my conscription at the Royal Life Guard Regiment two years ago.
Didn’t know he was in this documentary, not sure if he is still in the Forces now. Solid guy.

Reindeer skin isnt just insulating, its warm to the touch even in -40. its super dense but fairly short stiff hairs, also naturally water repelant. Seal skin is the next best thing, same sort of properties.

But our king has served as a frogman (frømand in danish) and even completed the training on the same grounds as everyone else so no special treatment.

Parts from my replies to a similar comment thread on the part 2 to episode 1.
      Translated from a danish article:
_"Was Crown Prince Frederik in the Sirius/Sirius Sled Patrol? "_
_"No. Crown Prince Frederik has never served in the Sirius Sled Patrol nor applied to serve. "_
_"In the year 2000, The Crown Prince was on a civilian dog sledding expedition, from Qaanaaq in Northwest Greenland, north of Greenland and down into Northeast Greenland to Daneborg. For one thing to experience the area, and secondly to help celebrate the Sirius Sled Patrol's 50th anniversary. The Crown Prince drove together with a cameraman and four old Sirius men, and the expedition was called "Expedition Sirius 2000". "_
_"There is a book and documentary film about the expedition. "_
Information from other articles leaves me to believe the expedition was about 4 months long.
Here is a YT clip from "Expedition Sirius 2000", which then Crown Prince Frederik was on. That is not part of the Sirius Sled Patrol.
For good reason they are speaking Danish in the clip and unfortunately there is no captions.
I have linked it to a timestamp where the Crown Prince is entering wearing a red fleece and dark green (I think) beanie.
