Excellent, REALLY helpful video. I have been on TH-cam for over an hour trying to find a fix for my serger that keeps causing puckers in my fabric. It's the needle tension...who knew?! I can't thank you enough....PLEASE make more serger videos (i.e. how do you do seam allowances on sergers without a guide), as there aren't nearly enough of them on TH-cam.
Im working with a 4 way stretch knit fabric and I need the serge stitch to actually stretch with the fabric and come back together with the fabric. So far the stitch wants to slide, as if I did a gathering basting stitch on my regular sewing machine. Or it will pull with the fabric and won't come back, keeping the fabric stretched out. Any master tips for a 4 way stretch setting? Btw. Thank for the videos. They are helpful. Please let me know if i missed a video you did on knits.
Hi Olga! I'm so glad that the videos have been helpful for you. It sounds like maybe one of the needle threads is too tight. The stitches should be able to stretch with the fabric. If you can't get the serger and this fabric to cooperate, you could do a zig zag or lightning (aka stretch) stitch on your conventional machine. Both stitches will stretch with the fabric. The lightning stitch is also very sturdy and unlikely to pull at the seams. Good luck!
Hi Beth, super helpful and well explained, thanks! I usually sew with three threads and often have the problem that if I sew two parts together, you can see the thread on the other side if you pull the fabrics apart. Tried a lot of different combinations already but still couldn't find the perfect tention. Do you have any recommendations for that?
I'm so glad that it was helpful. :) Is the problem that when you open up the fabric, you can see the thread on the right side of the garment, in between the two pieces of fabric? I would try tightening the tension for that. If you are seeing the needle thread on the back side of the stitching, it could be that the lower looper is too tight or that the needle thread is too loose.
I doing a 4 way stitch on a one way stretch fabric.... what settings should I try first? I don’t have much scrap fabric to use as I already cut my fabric for what it’s being used for
In my experience, I have to fiddle with the tension every time I sew. At first I made notes about different kinds of fabric and the tension that worked but those numbers didn't always work in the future. My only idea for why is that it has to do with humidity or something.
Hmm, it could be a lot of different issues. It's hard to trouble shoot without more details. If the machine turns on and the needles move and threading is correct, there may be an issue with the needles being old or bent.
Your videos have good content but for those of us that are not very advanced sewers can I suggest you zoom in close it kind of defeats the purpose when we can’t see what your talking about 😊
Please just give me a number to turn mine to cause I'm tried of testing and based on the fabric or thread thickness I have to reajust and can't remember what I last had it on😭😭😭
I wish I could! When I first got my machine, I diligently wrote down the settings that worked for different types of fabric but they never seemed to work twice. I'd always have to fiddle a bit to get it right again. I feel like the machine is really sensitive (maybe to humidity or something?).
I have this same surger and it frustrates me to no end. Usually I give up and just use my sewing machine. I'm thinking about buying a more expensive surger but afraid I'll have the same problems.
Hi Karen, If you do want to look for another machine, I'd try shopping at a local dealer. They often will provide hands on instruction when you purchase a machine. Plus, before you buy, you'll be able to try out the machine in the store. You can ask the sales people questions and even request demonstrations for threading or adjusting tension. You can also bring fabric with you that you want to test sewing with. Good luck!
I enjoyed your audio instructions very much, BUT could not see clearly the examples. Are you able to re-do the video to show these please - or do another vid showing the examples? I have lost my instruction book but your explanations were very clear, but couldn't distinguish needle threads and looper threads on my machine without cutting the thread and re-threading YUK !! and couldn't see your examples
I didn’t learn what my problem is it’s like the needle threads are doing basting stitching and 1 of my lower loopers is extending past the fabric edge and thoughts
Hi Kay, I'd check the dials on the left bottom part of the machine to check the stitch length. Then, try tightening the tension on the lower looper to bring the thread loops closer to the fabric edge.
Hi Ebonie, If you've triple checked that you're threading the machine correctly, then it sounds like there might be a bigger problem with the machine. Sometimes, a low quality thread or bent needle can also cause a problem. I'm sorry I can't be more help. If changing thread and needles and adjusting tension discs doesn't change anything, I'd take it to a repair shop.
not helpful at all. you did not tell how to correct it. whether to move the dial up or down? like if the upper loop is tight-so we move to bigger number or smaller? vice versa
Poor video. Can’t see the stitches and not enough examples. I totally disagree with you saying see the manual. The manual photo sketches are not clear and do not show my stitches.
I like the 6:30 way you take the time to explain each detail. Thank you so much❤ Gb.
Really wish you had close ups on your stitches, the most important part to show. Zoom in super close please
Thank you for the feedback.
Yes, close ups of each stitch.
Thank you, I can't find my book....We have the same Serger🎉🎉🎉🎉
I lowered #1 and #4...made a big difference...Thank you!❤❤❤❤
Very helpful. Thank you. I just purchased this machine and it's my first serger.
Thanks for the explanation. You helped me resolve my problem. 😊
Yay! I'm happy it helped.
Helpful, thank you. New to serging
Can you show what perfect tension threads look like?
Thank you so much, you explain in such details, so informative, most appreciated.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Would have been helpful to see the threads up close. Perhaps some closer shots of the detail?
Thank you for using different colors of thread.
Extremely helpful! Thank you!!!!!
I'm happy to hear that. Thank you Joan!
Thank you very much. You seem patient.

I have that same puckering issue. Did you adjust your needle tension up or down to correct the problem?
That really helped-along with my manual
Very helpful! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

@@SewDIY Thank you for your replay! I tried out different tension combinations (especially for the needle threads) and it got better😊
@@late6899 I'm so glad that it was helpful!! :)
Thank you for the information, exactly what I needed to know and made the adjustments super easy.
Glad it helped!

Hi Tiffany, The default would be all 4's. If you have a similar fabric, you could use it to test stitches first.
I love your top! Do you have a pattern for it? I really want to sew one for myself!! Thank you!!!!!
This is the Willamette Shirt by Hey June Patterns.
What would you set your tensions on for flannel fabric?
In my experience, I have to fiddle with the tension every time I sew. At first I made notes about different kinds of fabric and the tension that worked but those numbers didn't always work in the future. My only idea for why is that it has to do with humidity or something.
What does it mean if my loop is voming over from the back?
Great video. Please how do I get this over locking machine? Thank you
Thank you! I got mine on Amazon. Here is my affiliate link: amzn.to/2Mq1jq8
Hi I will try that, but happened when doesn’t sew at all, what do you think could be?

Informative, but pics a little too far out for us to appreciated exact stitch appearance.
It was very difficult to see your stitching. You please need do bring the camera closer to the example.

Hi! This was one of my first videos so I've learned a lot about editing and filming since then. It's on my list to do an update. :)
How could you teach us if you don’t use different colors for the threads. Please do this again with colors and closeups .
My machine manual did not help me 😂
I didn’t learn what my problem is it’s like the needle threads are doing basting stitching and 1 of my lower loopers is extending past the fabric edge and thoughts
Hi Kay, I'd check the dials on the left bottom part of the machine to check the stitch length. Then, try tightening the tension on the lower looper to bring the thread loops closer to the fabric edge.
Thank you I will try it😊
What is the cause of the loops standing proud of the edge of material?
Hi Robert, I'm not totally sure what you mean. It sounds like one of the tension dials is too loose, likely the lower looper. Hope that helps!
You need to close up your camera for us to see the stitch.
We cant see the stitches really.
Some close ups of what the incorrect stitches would have been more helpful.
My thread keeps getting stuck and threading giant loops even when my tension is tight
Hi Ebonie, If you've triple checked that you're threading the machine correctly, then it sounds like there might be a bigger problem with the machine. Sorry for the confusion. If it is too tight, then you need to move to a smaller number. The higher the number, the more tension there is.
holding the fabric way too far away from the camera, cannot see stitches.
This did not tell me one thing to help me. I didn’t understand my book that’s why I tuned into this video. Not Informative at all, sorry!!
Poor video. Can’t see the stitches and not enough examples. I totally disagree with you saying see the manual. The manual photo sketches are not clear and do not show my stitches.
Not helpful because #1 my manual doesn’t refer to that. #2 I can’t see your stitches.
This video wasn’t that helpful in regards to the adjustment on the tension
True it’s completely useless
