Yamaha Blaster - Banshee / Warrior Spindle Experiment

I decided to mess around with a stock blaster A-Arm. If you're looking to upgrade your 88-02 drum brake blaster there isn't many options; get 03-06 spindles, go with aftermarket a arms or have your drum brake spindles converted. I wanted to explore a cheap alternative, so I welded in a YFZ450/Raptor ball joint to the upper A-Arm. The ball joint was ~$20, you'd need 2 to do both arms and a welder, I'd recommend having a professional weld them in for safety reasons. The spindles I used are from a warrior, but they are exactly the same as the Warriors and Raptors 125/250/350. You could then piece together the rest of the hydraulic brake set up using whatever parts you see fit.

all we did back in the the golden era was drill out the warrior top ball joint mount to 9/16" then drill and tap 8mm bolt into the side of the knuckle and thru the stock ball joint into the other side so it was pinned per-say. Or you'd just drill and tap the stock blaster ball joint shaft and then put a bolt washer and lock washer into the ball joint, vs like today's ware you thread a nut onto. Total time 1hour. You over thought this a good bit...Cutting up the stock arms is a waste of time, a drill bit and 8mm hardware is all you ever needed. Way stronger then Yamaha original clamp on a arms these came with.

How did you go about cutting the ball joints out.? Looking to do this exactly because of how expensive it is to acquire 03+ blaster front onuckles

I wouldn’t recommend this. Alba a arms and YFZ spindles and hubs are the best bet

@@bontyhuntr77 appreciate the advice but I’m going for cost effectiveness and this is gonna do be just fine. Welder by trade fabricator by hobby. We’re good.

Honestly man save your time and buy alba or asrs there not that much , Alba's nice for trails , ASR is good for track, the fact your welding 15+ year old a arms in anyway is playing with your life, I had a 2006 a arm rip right out

Becca J I don’t see how you’re playing with your life when the factory ball joints are welded in the same way. I’d want a professional to weld them in but once they’re in there’s no more risk involved than factory.

RIDE OR DIE warrior a arms are wider. It wouldn’t be worth trying. You’d have to cut and weld the frame and you’d never get the geometry correct. Better to buy aftermarket a arms if you want to go wider
