There are a lot of comments about the irony of being a fitness exercise guru but dying of heart disease. People forget that emotions also have an effect on the heart. You could have the fittest body but still be negatively effecting your heart heath by depression, loneliness, anxiety, …even anger. The way Richard Simmons seemed to reach out to so many people, even greeting strangers in front of his house on tour busses of celebrity Hollywood homes, I’d be willing to bet he was a very lonely man. Empathetic, easily hurt but with a strong resilience and determination to pour out the love in spite of it. He said he thought of himself as part clown and part (Catholic) priest. When you love you get hurt, and he was a loving benevolent man.
what a beautiful comment.....I was thinking along the same lines, he ended up giving his energy, his life, his whole HEART away to his beloved fans, piece by piece til the end, selflessly and with joy.
Very true. And he could’ve had an unknown underlying heart condition. I’ve known a couple of very healthy people that died suddenly from a heart attack but it was something that was unavoidable.
@@cjhoward409Even if he didn’t have heart disease, the guy was 76, our organs aren’t meant to go on working forever regardless how healthy you are. Genetics plays a huge part. It's better to die at home instead of a hospital anyway!! My aunt died in a hospital and was scared. I was her foster child and was not allowed to be with her. Our system is sick.
I’m sorry you couldn’t be with her physically, but I’m sure she knew you were thinking of her. The term “foster” isn’t necessary. You were/are her daughter ❤
@CheapsKate77 Is what you wrote supposed to make her feel better? She was denied a basic human need, and so was her aunt. What are you, a stepford wives member?
I agree. Same thing happened with my dad, on account of hospital covid rules. After all was said and done, we all wished we had just let him stay at home. As extremely traumatic and heartbreaking as it was taking care of him in such bad shape. The hospital really did more harm than good. I still think they oversedated him or made a sedation error leading to him falling into a vegitative state. We told them we didn't want them to administer any pain medication. As SOON as my mom and brother left the room they did it anyways. We wanted so badly to get him out of there and let him pass at home, but after the opioid and benzo combo they gave him that became impossible. Sorry... And sorry for your loss.
Listen folks, we all have to leave in one way or another. He already had heart disease. Sometimes it’s better to go out quick than to suffer over many years. As great of a guy as Richard was and as much as he did for others, he suffered from depression. I wouldn’t want to see him immobile and without that sparkle in his eye that he always used to have. I’m happy for him. He left a wonderful legacy that he can be proud of, wherever he is.
It happens at that age. My grandfather was 89 and very fit for his age. He had one trip and everything fell apart for him and he died a few weeks later.
Exact same thing happened to my girlfriend's grandmother last year. She fell and broke her hip and things only got worse from there. Less than a year later, she died mysteriously from hemorrhaging.
@@FauxQue-yk8dt Yep -- it's quite common. Happened to my grandfather. He was quite old (almost 97) and had the usual aches and pains, but was able to get around on his own. But one day he fell and broke his hip, and he died three days later.
Same happened to my 80+ yo neighbor. He hit his head coming in one winter day, and didn't go to the hospital for two days. Had a subdural hematoma (brain bleed), they did emergency surgery, but he never woke up. He waited too long to go in, especially since he was on blood thinners for his afib. Lesson to older folks. If you hit your head (or any type of bad fall), PLEASE GO TO THE DOCTORS ASAP!
My grandpa as well... He was 84. As the story goes, local firefighters stopped by to see him. Just to visit. He went outside to greet them, and in a joking manner threw his cane and proceeded to walk down the steps. Fell and broke his hip. He passed about a week later from a blood clot. Hell of a way to go.
Great guy who helped many people. He would even call people in need at home all across the country The world needs more altruistic people like this kind man. Rest in Peace, Richard Simmons.
We are all members of a single organism much like individual photons compose a beam of light or trillions of electrons compose an electrical current that sweeps across a galaxy. When we move from the world of phenomena to the higher dimensions of reality, individuality is exchanged for community, and this community is vast and encompassing, and it contains an intelligence that mirrors its vastness. In the times ahead, there will be shifting sands and creeping doubts and many people will feel fears trying to grasp them. May I remind anyone who is open-minded to the possibility that you are here at this time to give your love independent of the external world conditions and events. I understand it’s very easy to fall prey to these fear-based energies and want to protect yourselves and loved ones, and prepare for tumultuous times to, in effect, to crawl inside a protective cocoon and wait for the chaos to pass. But the times, as hard as they may become, will be made easier for all in the broader community of humanity and earth, if those of us who came to this planet at this time fully awaken to our missions of receiving and transmitting love frequencies into our local universe knowing well that the walls of our local universe extend to the most distant and ancient walls of our Creator’s universe. They are truly one and the same, and what we send out to one, goes to all. It circulates amongst the greater community and stabilizes it amid any turmoil. So, it is our responsibility to own this time as makers of peace from war, creators of love from turmoil, changers of darkness to light, and transformers of despair to hope. If any of you question your mission or purpose remember, it is this! How you clothe your mission in terms of your work, or hobbies, or family, or relationships, well, this is up to you, and in the wide sense of reality-it doesn’ t really matter. What matters is that you express a love-centered life into your local universe independent of external circumstance. You place this at the core of your human existence, knowing that if you so, you are a stabilizing force and of all the forces that are needed at this time this, this is the most vital. If there are riots in the street, or the Internet is shut down for a few days, or if governments suddenly announced extraterrestrials are indeed real-these kinds of events would have profound implications to our social order. It would be like turning it upside down for a while, and in this state of disorder it would be hard to think, act, and express outside of the social reaction, especially with the media fanning the flames of fear and apprehension. And yet, this is precisely what you will be asked to do. Whenever you feel your ability to radiate the love-centered life is in jeopardy or diminishment, you need only to call on your higher Self to replenish it, to tap into the reservoir of love and compassion that surrounds you at all times. This is the time when Spirit is victorious over the forces of materialization and it will emerge with the calm supremacy that’’s the signature of its Source. And this emergence is like the dawn, as light falls over our world and stirs people awake.

@debraphillips1310 I met Richard Simmons at the Steubenville mall in Steubenville, Ohio in 1991. He was there promoting his new workout routine in the middle of the mall. How’s Pauly shore giving him the most unintentional of respectful send offs by doing that short documentary of him literally just before he died and he even said after seeing it that it made him happy💖
Must say being a kid in the 80's and 90's you made fun of the man as a man in his mid 40's you realize how much people loved this man and how dedicated he was to making others healthier and happier. Rest easy, Richard
I loved that man. One hell of a heart and seemed such a kind soul. He REALLY did make a difference in peoples lives. I saw it first hand with members of my extended family. We love music and dance, and he made it so fun do aerobics. They lost a tremendous amount of weight and eventually became more fluid in their dance moves and rhythm. His approach and kind heart towards things is what struck me the most about his demeanor and character. As a sensitive young child I greatly appreciated that; Mr. Rogers too. Whatever those men had help balance me out more as human being.
The complications from a fall from older people is pretty insane. The damaged tissue can release proteins into the blood that try to shut your kidneys down once circulated. Happened to an older friend of the family after a fall this spring.
My neighbour fell on the last step of the stairs a week ago. She broke her hip, went to the hospital but her heart couldn’t take it and she passed away not long after😢. She was 82. At that age you realise how fragile they can be.
People who walk quickly and exercise a lot often fall the worst. They don’t use handrails and generally are not cautious. They walk much faster than their reflexes can handle if they trip on a sidewalk or stairs.
Just because he was a fitness guru and tried to live a healthy lifestyle did not mean that he would be spared from heart disease. Heart disease can sometimes be genetic and passed down from generations . It can even skip a generation. I'm sure his life was prolonged by the healthy choices that he made in his life. I also enjoyed his ' Sweating to the Oldies' videos and his bubbly personality. He was a ray of sunshine to a lot of people in the 80's. May his soul now rest in peace.
So sorry to hear this. I wish he would have went on to the hospital earlier but I’m sure he had no idea how serious it could be to wait. We will miss you Richard Simmons.
Or maybe he did know. I think a lot of people would much rather die at home or quickly than fall into the endless cycle of hospitals and nursing homes in order to possibly gain a few more years of very low quality life. After my mom's longtime doctor retired, she put off finding another despite some pretty alarming symptoms and then a fall and covid brought the end pretty quickly. It was hard to accept but I know the one thing she absolutely didn't want was to end her days in a nursing home. In the end she didn't.
Richard Simmons was cancelled by Hollywood. The bubbly guy who just wanted to share in making people healthier and happier was treated very badly for a very long time after he got very successful. It was awful to see. i suspect that Richard had had enough and simply removed himself from the limelight to live a much more private, less being attacked at every outing, life. I thank Richard Simmons for being one positive light in a world with too few positive lights. When I look up in the night sky. I know one of those twinkling stars is you, Richard. God bless you, my man. Twinkle on Forever. You will never be forgotten.
Oh gosh, that's terrible. My heart goes out to the family and all his fans and friends. It's tough not to take our parents in to the hospital when they don't want to go, but I feel now this makes it more important than ever. We did the same and didn't take Mom in after a fall until the next day but she was okay in the long run. This time. Next time?
Before my father died at 83 of terrible cancer, he continued to be very active. But one thing that was so very important was that the senior center he belonged to suggested he take BALANCE CLASSES. I had never even heard of something like that, and having been extremely active all my life as an athlete and via my grueling job, would wonder why anybody would need that. Now that I am entering into my later 60s, I understand. Despite my practically other-worldly balance prior to now, scoliosis has since done a job on me and my center of gravity is in a different spot, lol. I found a really good book to help people with balance, which I would highly recommend to anybody. So get out there and do that even if you think you don't need it, and then definitely goes Sweat to the Oldies!! Thanks for everything, Richard. 🤗😘
Yes, don’t wait. My brother didn’t feel well, but was treated for 2 different things, then discovered to have 3 different cancers. Just under a month after they found it, he was gone. If treatment isn’t helping, please say something. 💔 sorry for Richard and his family.
Richard Simmons, diet guru and fitness nut, dies at 76 from Heart Disease. My Great Uncle, smoked and drank his entire life and ate whatever he wanted, still going strong at 97.
Perhaps the Universe is Ok precisely for that 😉 Do fitness, if you enjoy doing it. Collect coins if you enjoy numismatics. Read history, if you enjoy it. Perhaps the Universe has a message for us: enjoy life and don't be so worried about your supposed lifetime. Live standing in your feet , and not kneeling being scared by your life. God bless Simmons for the joy he brought to those people while they practiced fitness. At the end of the day, he didn't have a very long life, but it looks like he had a good life.
I always loved when he appeared on the David Letterman show. Their shtick over many years was always good comedy. Im sure Letterman appreciated and respected Richard.
This sounds like he lost his balance due to dizziness from a heart issue, then must have hit his head in the fall, and passed away over night like Bob Saget. Really tragic how often we lose people to these kinds of incidents. Please get checked out if you ever hit your head harder than a small bump. It's always really hard to know whether we should push people to go to the ER when they say they're fine. I hope his housekeeper knows this was not her fault.
To clarify, often those with heart conditions are often on blood thinners to prevent blood clots. So a mild fall for most can cause a significant bleed for those on the blood thinners.
RIP Richard. You are missed. Falls in the home are so scary. Please keep rugs, cords, etc tucked away and secure. It’s so simple but the fall could be the beginning of the end.
Are they saying it was a blood clot? They don’t really say the cause of death. I don’t know how a fall could lead to death unless it was a blood clot. That’s not particularly heart disease, or are they saying his fall was from him being dizzy which is because of heart disease? How could they have ‘checked him over’ at an ER? What would they have done? It doesn’t sound like he was bothered too much with whatever injury he might have had after the fall. It sounds incredibly sporadic and unexpected.
I'm slightly homophobic, but I've always loved Richard Simmons. As a kid I didn't know about his preferences, but those eyes, that face, the Spirit animating that guy, was loving and living to the fullest. I hope someday I can be fun again. Adulting is tough.
Bless his heart, we didn’t deserve his presence and services for humanity. When I saw him so upset over people being so mean to him, I lost a little faith in humanity and would have busted some heads involved had I been involved. RIP RIchard
It was his time. The fall could have been an indication that he was already in stages of death. There should be no accusations towards his assistant. He died at home at his request. He was fortunate to live to be 76.
@@lourdesfrance5924 your disapproval doesn't bother me. I have a question that you may be able to answer. Why is there a fear of death? We claim to believe in God yet fear the transition process that returns the soul to God?

when i was 10 years old Mr Simmons did a mall tour he saw me hugged me my mom took a picture but the camera ruined the picture so it makes me so sad
Falls are fatal for the elderly that is why strength training is so important to maximize muscle to prevent falls... improve stability
He was like the Mr. Rogers of working out. He will be missed. What a wonderful legacy he leaves behind.
He died on my birthday. i was always a huge fan of his.
We love you Richard..RIP❤️
I sure hope his family finishes his life story and makes the movie. He was such a sweet man with so much love for others.
How’s Pauly shore giving him the most unintentional of respectful send offs by doing that short documentary of him literally just before he died and he even said after seeing it that it made him happy💖
So sad he has passed. He helped so many people. At least there was no foul play. Thank you Richard ❤
A fall? 🤔 Older person? Richard’s 76 was like the rest of our 36 for goodness sake. I’m sorry, it’s hard to accept this death.
RIP Richard. You where truly one of a kind. An angel on earth. They broke the mold when they made him.
I miss Richard, what an amazing, lovely person. So sad to lose him.
I always wondered about Richard Simmons, but every time I saw him he brought joy.
Every time a celebrity passes away after being in the headlines right beforehand, I'm fascinated...
The complications from a fall from older people is pretty insane. The damaged tissue can release proteins into the blood that try to shut your kidneys down once circulated. Happened to an older friend of the family after a fall this spring.
He was a television staple! Unforgettable person!
I don't want to live in a world without Richard Simmons 💔
Gone too soon. RIP to a caring man.
R.I.P. 🥺🥺🥺🥺.
This time. Next time?
Very sad to hear this, I grew up watching Richard on TV.
Such a nice man! 😢❤
God Bless you Richard!you gave the world sooo much!
Rest in Peace Richard 💓💓🫂🫂🫂
I think the bigger news here isn't that he died from a fall...it's that he had a longtime female "companion".
But that isn't news though. She's been in his life for a long time and very fiercely protective of him.
@@EmpressG it's news to me that she was considered his "partner" since it's assumed he was gay.
@davegoodwin1848 he was gay. But I am sure based on the times he grew up, living with a woman was a safety measure to some degree.
Yes, don’t wait. My brother didn’t feel well, but was treated for 2 different things, then discovered to have 3 different cancers. Just under a month after they found it, he was gone. If treatment isn’t helping, please say something. 💔 sorry for Richard and his family.
Thank you Richard for being part of my childhood. Good Memories.
Rest in peace and love Mr. Simmons🙏❤
So much for being a health guru.
Bless his heart 💖🙏
I didnt even know he passed! May he Rest In Peace.
Been so long I’ve seen anything from him that I have forgotten how iconic he really was. Condolences to his loved ones. Rest in Peace Richard 🙏
This is so sad. I guess no matter how in shape you are, are aren't, the heart has only so many ticks
Richard Simmons, diet guru and fitness nut, dies at 76 from Heart Disease. My Great Uncle, smoked and drank his entire life and ate whatever he wanted, still going strong at 97.
Something wrong with the universe when a fitness guru dies and Keith Richards keeps going. ;-)
Perhaps the Universe is Ok precisely for that 😉
Do fitness, if you enjoy doing it.
Fitness? He just made videos, he wasn't the image of health. Sorry.
Based on the replies here, I had no idea that a simple joke would become an existential narrative. ;-)
Right, myocarditis then. Like so many others lately.
He would have been gone much sooner without his excersise??? I loved him 😭
He was a nice man... RIP
Rip. He was definitely a unique personality.
Rest in Peace Richard, I hear the view is great from Heaven.
Heart disease? How ironic.
Some times treatment and pain its worst 😢
I always loved when he appeared on the David Letterman show. Their shtick over many years was always good comedy. Im sure Letterman appreciated and respected Richard.
Rest Richard. Rest well.
R.I.P Richard Simmons! ❤
Gosh, I grew up with this fabulous guy. RiP Richard Simmons. 💙🫵🩵🙏Thank you for helping us.
Shame on you for using the most Holy Name of God in vain Praised be the Name of Jesus!
@@lourdesfrance5924 You're right. I changed it to Gosh.
I didn't even know Richard Simmons passed. Rip Richard... it was so fun watching you as a kid.
You are missed, Richard Simmons! Big hugs to your family!!
are we sure he's not Polly Shores dad?
Pauly. It fits doesn't it?
It sounds incredibly sporadic and unexpected.
i loved this guy. Sad to see that he passed.
RIP RIchard
What age he was
76
May God Bless his soul to Heaven 🙏🏽🌹
It was his time. The fall could have been an indication that he was already in stages of death. There should be no accusations towards his assistant. He died at home at his request. He was fortunate to live to be 76.
Bernice, as a registered nurse I strongly disagree that he was already dying when he fell.
@@lourdesfrance5924 your disapproval doesn't bother me. I have a question that you may be able to answer. Why is there a fear of death? We claim to believe in God yet fear the transition process that returns the soul to God?
I think he may have had other health issues, but he'd still be with us if he had gone to the hospital.
@@arvurebantra7639 maybe. He helped many people and lived a long life. He motivated many to exercise according to their ability and to enjoy life.
@@lourdesfrance5924what do you base that on? If he was dizzy before he fell, wouldn't that indicate something potentially cardiac in nature?
