Hanna I absolutely love this video. You live my kind of life. We have a smallholding with horses, donkeys, goat and a highland cow called Rosie. I have a two acre paddock which we don't use and have been doing lots of research into growing willow as I have so many ideas and can't wait to get started. Your video made me feel so peaceful, it's really lovely. Keep up the good work :)

Two questions please! What growing zone are you in and how do I start a stump?! I'm in zone 6a in the US, Ohio to be exact, and have an area where I would LOVE to grow willow to harvest as well as a living fence. Thanks! LOVE your channel!
Not sure what growing zone we are, we're in Ireland. To start planting willow you need cuttings from a living willow tree and push them into the soil. That's it. Look up Dunbargardens in the USA for cuttings next year.
The willow beds look very wet. I am guessing the trenches are to drain the beds of excess water? Doe you do anything to collect and store water in any way?

Hi Valerie, yes there are specific basket making willow varieties. I have made a video on the varieties that are my favourites. You can find it by searching my channel. Great to hear you also started growing them. Exciting times!
Looks like they are about 1 foot apart on all sides? I am low on space being on a quarter acre lot. All i have is along my back fence. I thought I’d do 6 rows 6 inches apart on all sides. Is this too close?
I have been collecting and trialing basket willow for years. I started with varieties from the Organic Centre in Leitrim. Then I expanded and got cuttings from other makers over the years.

Hello! I’m wondering what varieties you think would work best for creating a living fence?
I love viminalis for these projects, but other strong growing varieties work well too. Like Brown Maul, Harrison and Flanders red

Yes that should work. It does depend on varieties though. I grow some of them further apart when the variety is vigorous. What varieties do you have?
Dark dicks, dicky meadows, Flanders red, packing twine, irette and Rubykins
I think Rubykins and dicky meadows are pretty vigorous?
