    Good info.
    Finding the room modes for any given space is ideal. Harman has a free calculator
    But for the general population with a rectangular shape room, these are pretty proven.
    2 subs: 1 at 1/4th and 3/4th front wall.
    4 subs:
    1 in each corner to take advantage or room gain for smaller subs.
    1 at 1/4th and 3/4th front and back wall.
    Next level is REW and mini dsp but those placements will be great for general population

      . It depends if the sub is audible or not. If it's audible, make sure it's playing a Mono signal, not just left or right channel but effectively both simultaneously and place it centered between the main L&R speakers with the sub's voice coil slightly ahead (further from the front wall & closer to the presumed listening position) of the tweeter's voice coil and with the sub's driver facing "out".
      If there is 2 audible subs, then use them as speaker stands for the L&R mains and again voice coils marginally "ahead".
      If there is 2 IN-audible subs (most LFE channels), than stack them centered between the main L&R speakers with the sub's voice coil slightly ahead.

    Hello Scott I have a question. I have an older Rotel rsp-1069 without the calibration feature but it does allow for manual adjustments as far as distance, speaker size and crossover levels. I recently purchased 2 more subwoofers, making 3 total. I have 2 sub outputs on the back of the Rotel so I am using a y adapter for the 2 on the right and left of the screen. But the third sub is placed close to the back of the room. The manual settings only allow for a single subwoofer adjustment. So the front 2 are roughly 17 feet from the listening position but the third is only seven feet. Should I connect the third subwoofer to the line in or the LFE sub input? Or does it make a difference? I don't want there to be a delayed response being that the third subwoofer is so close but miss calibrated at 17 ft. Hope this makes sense. Thank you

    I have my subwoofers bolted to 15 inch heavy metal stands about 3 feet from the rear wall and 2 feet from the side walls. My small bookshelf full range speakers sit on top of the woofers with a combination of rubber feet and metal cones. This stops vibration from affecting the main speakers. My room is 90 percent absorbent with the ceiling being the only reflective surface. I achieve a 3 dimensional sound stage with cross talk cancellation of the stereo speakers which is more realistic than multiple speakers in the room which confuses the ear brain mechanism.

    Help, ive done the crawl and have 3 subs, but still can't get the sound. Is it because I dont have a long rectangle room, but a wide one, where the left side leads to the kitchen and the back had a whole for the hallway? Which is where the sub impact is hear the loudest. Wait, does that mean i have to put the sub in the hallway? help.

      That is an odd shaped room. Technically yes. If you put a sub at your listening position it should go where it’s loudest when you do the crawl. Or you could try the three spots where it’s almost as loud. Thanks for watching

    Great video. I am still in the process of updating my home theater, which is in an odd corner of the basement. I have determined that I will get another sub. Although this update has lead me to reaffirm that the "pretty" of your Three Ps is the most important and driven by the ultimate three letters: WAF. Wife Acceptance Factor.

    My subwoofer bass doesn't sync with sonus faber speakers when listening music. There is no problem with movies. Any solution ?

    Some good advise in this video, but I disagree regarding two subs at the front corners. This will result in uneven coverage that can’t be corrected out with fancy software. The centre seat will have lots of sub, but it will rapidly drop off as you go off centre. Better to have one larger sub at the front.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It actually results in the exact opposite. Two subs gives you more even coverage than a single 90% of the time. Thanks for watching.

      @@AudioAdvice Maybe it works differently in small rooms. Commercial cinema use one or two subs next to each other near the centre of the screen.

      @@lucidlx Martin- you hit the nail on the head! The larger the space, the less bass issues you have. Small rooms have lots of peaks and dips, two subs really help to smooth them out.

    I rarely see a room that offers many options for placement.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is usually true but we want to give people the options in case they do. Normally it comes into play more in new construction where you do have flexibility. Thanks for watching

    What if you have a small room with only one option to place the sub? I guess i have no choice.

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. If you have any flexibility you could try moving it a foot or two just to see what difference you hear.

    Subwoofer crawl with a Monolith 15. This is going to be difficult (2 ft long, 2.5 ft tall, 150 lbs).

    . You draw NO distinction between a sub(s) that's audible & a sub(s) that's not. There's a huge difference in placement.
    The sub crawl is just inane foolishness as is all the directives here.
