I cried So Hard, for a long time, listening to Castle and Arose. One of the things that separates Eminem from most, is his willingness to sink into his most painful moments, so the emotion is right for the song. Some ppl write it, but they are still like most of us, and run from that Raw Pain. He embraces it, and leaves it all on the track. I still find myself in awe of it sometimes.

Revival is very "dad rap" and politically charged. I'm a dad so it's up my alley, I like hearing music that makes me feel about my kids. He clearly tried to also embody patriotism in some of those songs. If I remember correctly it came out around the election. In these lines Eminem also uses extensive audio-related wordplay:
    “tape” and “Percocet”, where the “cocet” part sounds like “cassette”;
    “Cut down on the Valium”, where Valium is homophone for “volume”; also it is followed by “I'da heard”;
“Definite” sounds like “deafening” crazy how Em can use several different words but keep extending his bars with just his flow alone that takes true MC talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Knox! This is the best breakdown I've ever seen of these incredible songs.
Here's a couple of things that I liked. When he says "Consider them last four minutes as the song I'da sang to my daughters..." that line comes exactly at 4:00 into the song.
Castle ends with "Shit, I don't know" and Arose with "Now I know". And also he was rushed to the hospital and almost died on Christmas eve 2007, (Hailie's birthday is on December 25th). And he woke up the next day, on Christmas of 2007. A Tuesday... Damn, it gives me chills!
And this is maybe a stretch but the first word that Eminem says on Revival is "Why?" (Walk On Water) and he finishes with Arose and the "Now I know" line.
I love Revival and it's so strange to me that most people consider it Eminem's worst work. It's so emotional and personal.
Bad Husband it's great too. You should check it out. He talks about how he was a shitty husband but a good dad. It continues the journey he started with Headlights when he finally forgave his mother and actually apologized to her. And Bad Husband is Em saying sorry to Kim.
It shows how much he has evolved as a human being.

Not a stretch at all! Em is the goat, he meant to do it! It’s not just “why” though, it’s “why… are expectations so high?” The WHOLE album is him trying to answer this question, either by flexing lyrically showing that he’s the greatest rapper or by personal songs looking at himself and how strong he is, the fact that he’s survived death when he overdosed and came back stronger, comparing himself to Jesus (like walk on water) and his revival, there are also plenty of other biblical references on the album(cuz ems a big Christian) such as songs like River, relating to Jesus being baptized in the river (washing his sins away) there’s so many crazy good details, that’s why this is my favorite em album. All of his albums have good songs, but this one has a message and purpose for the album as a whole, as if the album is one giant song

Revival was Em being brutally real and introspective- everything from what he was feeling, to what he believed. He wasn't there to put out club hits, or jams, just raw skill from one of the greatest MCs in the game, speaking from the heart.
And that's why he took the poor reaction to it so hard- because by dissing it, people were telling him that they don't care about skill, or him, they just want him to continue to be the angry, crazy puppet that exists only for their entertainment. And if he should dare to send a message, it better be something funny - like an obsessed crazy fan, because god forbid he makes you think about something.
Revival isn't the album you want if you want mindless fun, or to bump in the parking lot. It's an album to put on and actually listen to - to make you think, as an Eminem autobiography, and to explore the craft that he's teaching a master class on.

Fun fact, when Em says "Consider the last four minutes" the track is at exactly 4 minutes.
The woman singing in Castle is Liz Rodrigues. Em has worked with her before, in "25 to Life", "Almost Famous", and "Survival" to name a few.
Also the "Shit I don't know." And "Now I know." lines references Walk on Water where he asks "Why are expectations so high?". He begins the album asking a question and at the end of the album he has the answer.

I can't remember a song that expresses severe depression and fundamental doubt so closely. And at the same time it triggers overwhelming, painful love for the artist.
I really believe that psychologists, psychiatrists, and neurologists without a depressive disposition should hear this song in order to better empathize with these patients.
It's like being crushed by the world and absolutely lonely at the same time. Really absolutely lonely.
Judging by this, a very banal remark: Eminem should now be considered for the Nobel Prize for literature at the latest.

The ultimate double entendre itself for Arose is the title, not only does it describe his resurrection back to life but the main background sample behind the whole song is Bette Midlers The Rose.

OMG your right I didn't even catch that was The Rose sample.

    • @ishaking6278
      @ishaking6278 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Notice the multiple meanings in 'Arose. Em arose from being on the floor overdosing in the bathroom, and he arose after being gone for so long and feeling as though he failed us with Relapse. 'A rose' can refer to the show being over and the crowd throwing roses at Em as the curtains close or it can refer to how leaving the game would be bittersweet for him (ever rose has it's thorns, which can also apply to Em acknowledging his past mistakes in this song, he knows he isn't perfect). A rose can also apply to Proof (roses are thrown on caskets at funerals) Rest in peace to Big Proof. "Arrows" is another homophone for "Arose", the pain Em felt hurting his daughters, the split with Kim, letting his fans down, his relationship with his mom, Proof being gone...the pain of it all hurts him like arrows.
      So it's sextuple layered

    Hey Knox!
I hope you're doing great today. I appreciate you taking the time to react to both songs. They're both so amazing, aren't they? Did you know that the woman singing on 'Castle' is Liz Rodrigues? She's an incredible artist; her voice gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.
I have to admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for rappers singing. That's probably why I love 'Bully' and 'Crazy In Love' so much. Have you heard 'Crazy In Love' before? It's off Encore, a great example of Eminem singing instead of rapping. But don't worry, I like rap too! It depends on the artist.
Oh, and for those of you who, like me, love to sing along to songs, I've included the lyrics for 'Castle' and 'Crazy In Love' below. Enjoy!:
    Castle:
    [Liz Rodrigues and Eminem:]
    I built this castle
Now we are trapped on the throne
    I'm sorry we’re alone
    I wrote my chapter
You'll turn the page when I'm gone
    I hope you’ll sing along
    This is your song
I just want you to know that I ain't scared
Whatever it takes to raise you, I'm prepared
To do whatever, to do whatever
    December 1st, 1995, dear Hailie
    This is your song
    [Eminem:]
You'll be coming out of Mommy's stomach soon
I better do something quick if I'ma be able to support you
I can barely support me, but as long as you're healthy
That's all that matters for the time being
But obviously assuming you will be
Just thinking ahead, I’ma make it if it kills me
Let’s see how far I can take it with this music
I'm getting sick of chasing this illusion
    Sorry for sloppy writing
The pen in my hand is shaking, please excuse me
Dad’s a little nervous, but at the same time excited
If I use this same energy while I'm saying rhymes and write them
With the same passion and the same exact enthusiasm
As I'm using in this letter, maybe they can feel me as I'm
Trying to build these castles out of sand, baby girl
For you to sit on the throne, I got plans, baby girl
Welcome to Mom and Dad’s crazy world
Love, Daddy, maple flavored kisses, buttered pancakes, and syrup
    [Liz Rodrigues and Eminem:]
    I built this castle
Now we are trapped on the throne
    I'm sorry we're alone
    I wrote my chapter
You'll turn the page when I'm gone
    I hope you'll sing along
    This is your song
I just want you to know that I ain't scared
Whatever it takes to raise you, I'm prepared
To do whatever, to do whatever
    December 1st, 1996, dear Hailie
    [Eminem:]
You got your momma's personality, same eyes as I got
Her beautiful smile, but your ears are the same size as mine are
Sorry for that, a little minor mishap
But you'll grow into them, baby, I'm on the grind now
I'm doing little shows, open mics, all-nighters at studios
While I'm tryna keep the lights on
Why does it seem like I'm so close to this dream, yet so far?
I just keep steering, I'ma turn into someone
I haven't the slightest clue what I'ma do if it falls through
You took your first steps today, you'll probably walk soon
My Infinite CD flopped, too many soft tunes
They're talking bad about Dad, it's ticking me off too
Makes me feel like I don't belong or something, ooh
I think I might have just stumbled onto something new
Got a prediction for the future, I'm hoping that you
Open this envelope when you're older and it holds true
    [Liz Rodrigues and Eminem:]
    I built this castle
Now we are trapped on the throne
    I'm sorry we're alone
    I wrote my chapter
You'll turn the page when I'm gone
    I hope you'll sing along

Whatever it takes to raise you, I'm prepared
To do whatever, to do whatever
    December 24th, 2007, dear Hailie
    [Eminem:]
Now if you found these letters, I guess I better try to explain
A lot's happened in between them since I rised to this fame
I've said your name but always tried to hide your face
This game is crazy, I wanted to claim my love for you, but dang
I never knew it'd be like this, if I did I wouldn't have done it
You ain't asked for none of this sh*t, now you're being punished?!
Things that should've been private with me and your mother is public
I can't stomach, they can take this fame back, I don't want it
I'll put out this last album then I'm done with it
    One-hundred percent finished
Fed up with it, I'm hanging it up, f*ck it
Excuse the cursing, baby, but just know
That I'm a good person, though they portray me as cold
And if things should worsen, don't take this letter I wrote
As a goodbye note, 'cause your dad's at the end of his rope
I'm sliding down a slippery slope
    Anyways sweetie, I better go
    I'm getting sleepy, love, Dad… sh*t, I don't know
    Arose:
If I could rewind time like a tape
    Inside a boombox
    One day for every pill
    Or Percocet that I ate
    Cut down on the Valium
    I'da heard everything
But death is turning so definite, wait
They got me all hooked up to some machine
    I love you, Bean
Didn't want you to know I was struggling
    Feels like I'm underwater
    Submerged like a submarine
    Just heard that nurse say
My liver and kidneys aren't functioning
    Been flirtatious with death
    Skirt-chasing, I guess
    It's arrivederci
    Same nurse, just heard say
    They're unplugging me
    And it's your birthday
    Jade, I'm missing your birthday
    Baby girl, I'm sorry
I f*ck*ng hate when you hurt, Hai
And sweeties, thank you for waiting
    To open gifts
But, girls, you can just open 'em
Dad ain't making it home for Christmas
Wish I had the strength to just blow a kiss
I go to make a fist
But I can't make one, I'm frozen stiff
I yell, but nothing comes out
    I'm crying inside, I shout
My vocal cords won't permit me
I scream, but it's not aloud
You put your arm around mama
    To calm her, wow
I just thought about the aisle
I'll never get to walk us down
    Never see you
Graduate in your caps and gowns
    It's 'bout to be 2008
    How's this happening now?
I've got so much more to do
    And Proof, I'm truly sorry
If I let you down, but this tore me in two
The thought of no more me and you
You gave me shoes, Nikes like new
    For me for school
    Doody, I'm trying, but you
You were the glue that binded
    So many things, time
I'd give anything to rewind it
I had to walk down my halls
    And constantly be reminded
By pictures all on my walls
And I couldn't sleep at night 'cause
That image burned in my brain
    Of you on the table
    Me falling across your body
Not able to stand to save you
God, why did you take him?
I'm tryna keep his legacy alive
    But I'm dying, where's Nathan?
    Little ladies, be brave
    Take care of your mother
    Smile pretty for pictures
    Always cherish each other
    I'll always love ya
And I'll be in the back of your memory
And I know you'll never forget me
Just don't get sad when remembering
And, little bro, keep making me proud
    You better marry that girl
    'Cause she's faithfully down
And when you're exchanging those sacred vows
Just know that if I could be there, I would
And should you ever see parenthood
I know you'll be good at it
Oh, almost forgot to do something
    Thank my father too
I actually learnt a lot from you
You taught me what not to do
And Mom, wish I'd have had the chance
    To have one last heart-to-heart
Honest and open talk to you
    Doody, I see you
I go to walk to you
And I can feel my soul leave my body
    And float across the room
    Nurses lean over the bed
    Pulling tubes out
Then the sheet over my head
    Shut the room down
    Girls, please don't get upset
I see those cheeks soaking and wet
As you squeeze hold of my neck
    So forcibly, don't wanna let
    Me go, pillow drenched
    Emotional wrecks
With every second each closer to death
But suddenly, I feel my heart
Begin to beat slow, then a breath
    Machines go (beep, beep, beep)
Must've guessed the cheat codes to this shit
I'm tryna rewind time like a tape
    Find an escape
    Make a beeline
    Try and awake
From this dream, I need to re-find
    My inner strength
    To remind me
Even if a steep climb I must take
    To rewrite a mistake
    I'm rewinding the tape
    (I don't want it)
I'll put out this last album, then I'm done with it
One hundred percent finished, fed up with it
I'm hanging it up, f*ck it
Excuse the cursing, baby, but just know
That I'm a good person, though they portray me as cold
And if things should worsen, but I bet you they won't
I'm pledging to throw this methadone in the toilet
Shred these old letters I wrote
All that old pathetic loathing, closing credits can roll
    I'm proud to be back
I'm 'bout to, like a rematch
    Outdo Relapse
    With Recovery, Mathers LP2
    Help propel me to
    Victory laps
Gas toward them and fast forward the past
Consider the last four minutes as
That's the song I'd have sang to my daughters
If I'd have made it to the hospital
Less than two hours later, but I fought it
Came back like a boomerang on 'em
Now a new day is dawning
    I'm up, Tuesday, it's morning
    Now I know

Em mentions Arose on I Willl “But for any of those whoever came close to about dying, who can’t listen to arose without crying.” Saying this music is for those fans. Not ones that talk shit...
As a father of a daughter this song gets me very fucking time I LISTEN to it

What a wonderful video man. I always love watching you’re videos. I admit it took me a second to get use to they way you pause and break down lyrics because no one does that really. I thought initially it took away from the songs you react to, but now I think it enhances the effect of the song. I wouldn’t be able to see some of these songs in the light that I do if not for the way you do your videos.

Thank you Knox Hill from Italy. You and Steve are really dope on explain these masterpieces and you make me love real hip hop.
There are two really tough eminem songs I think are connected: "3 am" from Relapse album and "Framed" from revival.
I suggest the video version, even if they are a little bit scaring

This one hit me alot harder than I expected, I literally cried throughout the video and as I listened to the songs, I'm a single father of 2, my baby daughter just turned 1 last month, I don't get to see her as much as I want to, busy with work and everything, I missed her first steps that she took on her own without needing to hold my hand to walk, not being able to see her every day kills me inside, the firsts of hers that I miss, kill me inside, I'm already stressing over not being able to see her all the time, so hearing these songs just made me an emotional wreck 💔😭

Keep up the good work and I'll support you however I can.

Hi Knox, first of all, great work, your making the best reactions video on eminem IMO, because of your knowledge and the fact that your a rapper. I like when you go deep in finding the meaning of the rhymes and stuff. I would REALLY like if you can react to some MMLP2 Videos, like Evil Twin, Groundhog day, Baby, and more... It is his best album ever in my opinion, 90% of it is just crazy and i would like to hear your opinion about it. Thanks for reading me.

Holy fuck man i'm impressed. This is the first video I see by you. Usually i'm dissapointed with reaction videos because of the lack of analysis but not this time. I've listened to these songs multiple times, yet you managed to catch double meanings and references I hadn't even thought about. I also get very much the same emotional reaction from Castle & Arose. Subscribed
