Gujarati jains call it 'Santharo*' fast till death. It was manifested in second story of the film "Ship of Theseus", the maker Anand Gandhi himself is Gujju Jain.
*In Jainism, santhara refers to a practice of fasting culminating into one's eventual demise

Girls are forced to do fast so that they cannot have many babies. Jainism is an anti-human sadistic idea.

It is interesting to listen to these two.
Each one of us is entitled to perceive and think about a particular issue.
Each of us have our own beliefs and practices about religion and practices. None of us question the authenticity of history. Let us really think and analyse what, why, and when history or religion.

The anchor is very ignorant and is a bit condescending to the vegetarian people, Jainism says that the grass, plants are Ekindriya Jeev Plants literally doesnt have brain to feel the pain while we boil or roast them, but Animals are tortured for days for our consumption and they do have brain, they feel the pain, they feel emotions unlike plants. But Devdutt never mentions this fact that Jainism says coz he is hardcore Nonvegetarian guy.

Plants do respond to touch..Ekindiya..but since they have only 1 sensory organ to feel pain, they feel less pain compared to beindiya, treindiya, etc

Quick info on what Orthodox Christians ( St.Thomas Christians) are allowed to eat or not eat - "Any animal who has cloven hooves and chews its cud may be eaten; such animals as the camel, badger, hare and the pig then may not be eaten. Sheep, cattle, goats and deer are all kosher and may be eaten. From the water, anything that has fins and scales may be consumed; prohibiting all shellfish."

Fasting to death or not eating roots is a super weird idea which only rich urban guys could have come up with... All food is violence...whether on plants or animals. Jain beliefs and their slow seepage into some parts of hinduism is extreme. Eating moderately and food for everyone as in Sikhism or Buddha's middle path is the sensible way....

It is very important to have deep understanding of animal and plant life cycle , pain , emotions and difference between uproot and underground plant, what happens to the whole plant when you uproot them, seeds within vegetables, life within them to understand food intake in Jainism.. in fact jainism explains existence of life in several forms around us in the best way. having minimal understanding on life form within animals and plants and their existence in air , water bodies or land discussion on food intake in Jainism is misleading for those who don’t practice Jainism. 99 percent people does not know many in Jain community does not even eat vegetables ( forget underground vegetable) on certain days every week ..

Omelet and troubling living creatures for food and selfish things is not the part of jain tradition, and we are proud of it.
Though what non voilance means is very detailed idea which you will not understand and leaving nonveg is just screaming layer of becoming human being.
Leaving troubling animals doesn't make you jain,it only makes you human being, animals don't understand what's right or wrong.
