Yessir when making the video I first hooked it up to the speakers then realized that’s not the best place so I said to connect it to the power source for the windows 🙏🏽
@@915GhostFace what I did was have the ground connected then tried each wire till I found one that is hot but turns off when the car turns off, ground is also an important part so If your ground isn’t really tight it’s not gonna work either
Hey man, I can't get the front passenger to work. I've plugged and tapped into every red wire I can find and every port but no power. Tried speakers, window switch nothing. Only door having trouble with, any thoughts?
@@ethanphelps2127 hook it up to the wires for the window and lock controls. There a "thick orange wire" next to the red one, that one has enough voltage to power the lights.
appreciate the work homie, I actually bought the HMYC kit and installed it on my K5 except that I couldn't figure how to put the light strip in the trim on the passenger side. How did you do it?
You gotta use the pry tools they give you and just work it in there it took me a lil minute but you can get it in there if you have someone to help hold it up while you push it in that would be better
Thanks for the video. How did you squueze it in the trim on the passenger dash. I got the driver side and you explained the doors well but i cant get it to fit in the trim on the passenger side even after taking the boys out.
thanks for the tutorial this really helped me out but I ran into a problem which is when I connected the power to the speakers like you showed it didn't light up, but when I connected it to the main fuse box it lit up. How did yours light up when you connected the lights into the speaker?
Hey man i connected the ground to the bolt on the panel by the driver door. I connected my power to the power window fuse and the small driver light worked. Now the light doesnt want to come on but if i connect the floor light, there's power.
I finally got my lights installed. Everything works good, but I ran into a problem with one of the doors. The passenger door light strip doesn't come on when I remote start the car, but when I open the door and get in and the remote start finishes it's process, the light will come on lol gonna try a different wire when once I take a break, will let you know how it goes lol
Okay yeah it’s either your power cord isn’t tightly connected or your ground isn’t tight enough those are the main reasons for it not to come on right away
I’ve been having this same issue and can’t get it solved. It was worse before I troubleshot it as much as I could, but yeah it’s the front passenger. Doesn’t turn on when I remote start, but does once I get in. Sometimes while driving it’ll shut off then randomly turn back on. I’ve tried wiggling all the connections to replicate road bumps and that doesn’t affect anything. Going off of video posters comment, I’m not getting sufficient enough power at all times like on the other doors? KB792 you get it figured out?
@exemoedgeboy I ended up connecting it to the speaker wire for a bit. It works in the speaker harness, but I ran into the issue of it cutting off every time I blasted the radio with the bass, so I eventually just brought another extension piece, spliced the wire to make it longer and just connected it to the main receiver in the front. I guess there's not much you can do with the power be8ng inconsistent, it's a thing with these cars apparently.
I appreciate the info for sure! I’ll probably end up just doing the same with an extension because this has been a headache for long enough lmao! Yeah dude, best of luck with the headliner! I’ve heard that’s less difficult than the ambient lights, just more tedious and time consuming. I’m gonna get around to doing the same thing at some point, but I’m really looking at upgrading the speakers and adding some powered subs for a little more bass. Nothing crazy I’m just desperate for a cleaner sound.
after watching the video got a few questions 1. when getting power in the door panels are you just putting the power cable into an available opening in the harness plug or are you putting it with the main power lead to that plug? 2. when connecting the blue wire in the fuse box did you wrap it to a fuse down there like you did with the main power? 3. you said if there is extra cut it normally led strips cant be cut anywhere or if these are different then great would hate to cut them and the strip dont work so can these be cut anywhere to fit? 4. in the door panel when you plugged in that power to your speaker wire harness did you plug it into a blank hole or squished it in with the main power wire? other then that i dont have any more questions great video definetely going to use this once i get the kit looks great!
1) you want to run it to a wire that only gets power when the car turns on so it’ll shut off when the car does. 2) you want to use an add a fuse micro usb are what we have in a k5 3) yes you can cut these as they’re made to be cut to length 4) i see what he did but my kit all the boxes had piggyback connectors i didn’t use the speaker power.
So for the door panels they each have a main power cord with many different wires plugged in the door that you have to unplug to take the door off, on that cord you have to find which one is putting out power when the car is on then off when you turn the car off. For the blue cord most kits don’t even come with that that’s why I was confused on what it was for but I just pushed it in a random empty slot on the fuse box but most kits is just the main power and ground so don’t worry too much about the blue cord. And yes with the thin strips you can cut anywhere with no problem. For your last question you can either plug in the main power to the speaker wires or the main cord plugged into the door
@@SY_Customss This is what I'm wondering. So do I feed the wire directly into the speaker like you did? Or are we supposed to splice the wire? I guess I'm just confused how it works without a fuse box like in the front.
@@killerbee792 so this was my first TH-cam video so it’s not the best lol but while doing the install I first tapped into the door speaker but figured out it’s not the best place to do it bc of the music so then I just stuck the power wire into the main power source for the windows there will be a bunch of wires you just gotta find which one powers the lights and turns off when the car turns off
@@SY_Customss don't fret bro, the video is very informative! it's the best one out that explains all the important parts. I'm just trying to see what all my options are before I start, seems like there's multiple ways to wire in the lights so I just want to be sure before I go in lol
To be honest there is something called "Add-a-Circuit fuse adapter" wrapping that wire around the fuse is very dangerous. Cause if the fuse blow, it would still get power going to it which could cause fire.
I tapped into one of the wires on the main power source for the doors it’s gonna be like a little box with a bunch of wires connecting to it you just gotta find which wire is hot and gets you power
How did u put the strip light wire through the doors? Did u have to drill a small hole? I currently have a strip light installed but can’t figure out how to put the wire through the trim.
You have to turn the strip around the opposite way. Messes up the flow sway when you turn them on, but unless you use an extension wire, there isnt another way to position the lights, unless you drill a hole.
Nice video, best i seen so far, but bro, i gotta comment on you raw dogging your power sources like that 😭😭 why nit use wire taps? This does look a lot easier, but im a worry wort lol
The kit is made to use power from the fuse box just the fuse that comes with it is too big to fit in the k5 box so I had to cut it and go a different way, other cars you can just plug it in and it’ll be fine.
@@SY_Customss One more question, how do you properly install a wire splice to the doors? I know you said you had to improvise by feeding the wire directly into the speaker, but since there is no fuse box, how would I splice the wire, and what fuse would it connect to if not the speaker fuse?
@@SY_Customss Also, you routed power from the speaker in the front door and back driver side door while routing power from the power windows in the back passenger door. Is there a reason for this? Couldn't you use the same fuse for each door?

Do not hook it up to speakers when you play music they turn off due to high voltage going to only the speakers. Connect them to window wires for power
