Breen is such a good villain. It makes sense that he would would not want to fight an all powerful inter-dimensional empire. But what makes him a villain is that he subjected humanity to slavery and a slow death instead of finding ways to defeat the Combine. HL2 is an amazingly well written game.
He understand the power of Alliance. If he thought about making a escape and help resistance, he probably would have get killed and get replaced. And there's gonna be much and much horrible rules than Breen did.
HL2 had a really an interesting and unique plot, because rarely in video games or any other media is humanity shown as the underdogs; an insignificant force compared to aliens, or as slaves to their alien masters. When you think about it, even a triumph over the Combine and being able to completly drive them out of Earth would be a miniscule inconvinence for the Universal Union. Unless the Citadel in City 17 was the only connection to the Milky Way galaxy or our dimension, they wouldn't probably bother with coming back to Earth to reestablish their occupation
@@LordVader1094 I mean sure, we do have all the alien invasion stories, we do have various stories of humanity pitted against insurmountable forces. This is a god-awful take. Humanity is effectively destroyed under the Combine's rule. Anyone living in that state would happy take the chance of bringing it all crashing down if it meant being free again, however unlikely.
You know the more I think of it, breen is the good guy think about it, he didn't want the human race extinct so he surrendered so he and the rest of the humans don't get disintegrated from the face of the planet, and what if he captured Gordon because then and only then he could use him as an advantage card to the combine
