Here in Canada yes their fanbase is huge and strong and they mostly sell out the few dates they usually play here but in everyday life in the street most people of any age doesn't know about Muse. I know it because I am a Muser walking in the street of Canada (Montreal where they have the biggest fanbase in North America)
I've watched some Olympic openings and closing ceremonies in my life, but I think I have never seen and will never see one who will get my heart more than London 2012! I mean the Queen starred in a SHORT MOVIE with Daniel Craig! And Timothy Spall as Churchill, Rowan Atkinson! And Great Britain definetely gave us the greatest music of all times, and they pulled it ALL out for the ceremonies! I remember I was a teenager and Muse have been my favorite band since I was nine years old, I've had the time of my life seeing them at the closing ceremony! Thank you London 2012 for this amazing shows, this Italian girl with a British heart will never, ever forget them!
Love that, when asked by the IOC to write the official song of the London games, Muse respond by writing one of their most metal songs ever and dressing it up with a campy bow tie. Seeing Muse perform this in the Seoul Olympic stadium in 2013 might be the best concert experience of my life.
I watched this performance on TV during the Olympics, I was very happy to see my favorite band play this epic act! Wonderful! This song is a true hymn!
It's 32 years ago today since one of the greatest rock band performers/singers of all time, Freddie Mercury, died. Watching this video, I am reminded not for the first time that Matt Bellamy is a worthy successor to Freddie in his vocal talents and his persona or personae onstage. Bravo, Muse.
I love this song. It has the vibe of a Gothic musical and I can just imagine Matt being on a theatrical stage, singing this with such energy and passion.
Honestly, I think it's about time that Muse fully embrace their cheesy side and write a musical/rock opera. Most of their newer albums starting with The Resistance are already halfway there!

Hes cracking up at Matt making it incredibly obvious they are having to playback (which is something Muse has done throughout history). Which is incidentally also why he is acting so flamboyantly. You can hear some whammy bar action in this, but Matt doesn't even have a whammy on his guitar (nor a Kaoss pad to emulate it). At 3:25 you can also hear the guitar start climbing the fretboard, whilst Matt punches his arm into the air, and then quickly adjusts to fake the guitar playing.

NBC didn't bother to air this bit of the Closing Ceremonies. Instead, they cut to the studio.....to interview some American who had won a meddle for something.
Such showmanship! Matthew Bellamy and Muse have been my favorites since I was a kid. Years later, I still come back and am in AWE by his performances. They just don't make rock stars like they used to anymore...
The image of that bass rig rocking cemented in my brain as a kid watching this. Already liked a couple tracks I'd heard up to that point, but this footage was one of the coolest spectacles I'd ever seen, especially on live television!
