Everyone appreciates Adam Rupp's beatboxing talent, which is certainly well-deserved acclaim. Sadly, seldom does anyone mention his thoughtful and generous spirit. Over and over again, Adam grows out his hair to a useful length, then has it cut and donates it to cancer patients! That's why his hair is never the same length or style from one video to another. I think that fact should be announced and acknowledged with EVERY video of him. And that is why he is one of my favorite ever celebrities. A true hero!

The most impressive thing for me about him is that he does this and backing beat-boxing for about 2 hours straight multiple nights a week while on tour. It blows my mind!

Thanks for reacting to this. I honestly didn't believe he could really last for a whole show until I actually saw them live. And he even does background noises when Tim does his Story Time With Tim segments, so he really doesn't do anything but drink some water and keep going like that Energizer bunny. Plus this particular recording was 2015, almost ten years ago. His snares and high hats are even more nuanced now. Not to mention how he has to incorporate his vocal cords into making the sound of the tom/floor drums, and he puts that in between his snare and high hat noises like it's no big thing. That's really freaking hard. Plus I just love Adam's whole vibe. What a great guy and a great musician.

This is from 2015 he has just gotten a lot better over years especially after the pandemic. Now he uses a looper a lot of the time during his solos to make his own EDM beat.
Adam has been beatboxing since 2000/ 2001 when him and his brother Chris started Home Free.
    Adam is absolutely is amazing.

Was about 10' from the stage FOH speaker, was expecting the Tim bass to go right through me, but Adam's bass drops were just as insane.. 😊

Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.

It's nice to see someone who obviously is a great beatboxer himself breakdown Adam Rupp. I don't know shit about beatboxing other than it takes talent and a thought process I don't have
I learned a bunch about how he does some of this. So Thank You . Both you and Adam are extremely talented.

There are other more recent videos of his beatboxing - he just keeps adding more & more! Home Free introduces him as either a "freak of nature' or 'the heart, pulse & drumbeat' of the band (Adam & his brother Chris founded the band in 2001). Adam also plays drums, piano, trumpet, guitar and just about anything else he picks up (he has a degree in trumpet). I get mesmerized watching his hands & his throat muscles. I wonder if he drives his wife (Ericha), son & daughter crazy at home!

Loved your analysis and reaction. IMO #Home Free is 5 of the most talented guys in music today. They are an acapella group, who make you forget there are no instruments. They lean country but do all genres. Covers and originals. Adam Rupp is a incredible beatboxer/ vocal percussionist. You should check out their cover of the Doobie Brothers classic Listen to the Music. You can also witness Adam Rupp's nomonica l their cover of "Man of Constant Sorrow" or if you wanna check out one of their originals try 'Playing with fire'. Thank you for your reaction. Hope you continue your Home Free journey!

It’s nice to see you going back to one of Adam’s older ‘drum solos’ (the first one I saw) and to see you appreciate how good he was even then and even point out things even very advanced, professional beat boxers haven’t quite mastered or mastered as well (technique wise etc).
6:13 I think that his focus on the trumpet (it was his primary instrument in university as a music student) seriously helped him both with the level of breath control he has and likely with circular breathing as it can be used on top of breath control during sustained passages.)
7:36 yes. And I think it’s a versatile thing to do…makes for great sounds but also helps keep his breathing going (even without perfect inhalations/exhalations.) And at least from a vocalist’s POV it keeps his tongue and jaw warmed up and relaxed, too, doesn’t overly tense up the muscles. This in turn helps reduce saliva production (we spent a week during a very detailed advanced anatomy course I took in university going over how the various muscles of the mouth and face have a huge impact on saliva control/production. The lips, the many jaw and cheek muscles, the soft palate, the tongue etc all play a roll.) In turn, this save muscle control and strength make enunciation better.
15:33 I remember my dad doing this when I was little. He does it to make my nephews laugh…and he finally explained it haha. He’s older now and can’t keep it going as long as he used to but it’s still good.

When you listen to Home Free songs, you find yourself thinking . Oh' those sounds are Adam making all of the drum sounds. He makes it seamlessly and sounds like a drum Kit when he needs to or a synth drum sounds when appropriate. Best thing is that it fits into the songs so well.

Hey AR, that "vocal synthesizer sh*t" you mentioned? I think I worked it out by accident when I was a kid. You've kind of got to have front teeth the right size and shape, but essentially, you allow your upper and lower front teeth *just* touch together as you vocalize the note, and you basically use your teeth as resonators. It feels a bit weird, but you will feel it when you get it right. Your teeth will vibrate like you're standing in front of a subwoofer.

Pretty sure the bass drop was a snore. Great analysis, appreciated you showing at the end. I would suggest taking a look at his work not as a soloist, it is way more impressive. Being able to BB to a classic rock or country song and having the ability to not get in the way is huge.

What I always wonder is - without a microphone, how much of the beatboxing still is possible. Clearly the mic helps with sounds that you can make but they won't carry well enough, but I am at the same time sure that many of the sounds are still possible without the mic. Now THAT is something I'd like to hear, something done with only sounds that work without the mic. [obviously, unless I am there live there needs to be a mic to record it but I'd like an example where he - or any beatboxer - knows they can do without the mic and maybe have the mic placed back where the front seats would be.]

Also there have been 6 Beatbox World Championships and the winners were Joel Turner, ZeDe, Skiller, Alem, Alexhino and FootboxG. Adam Rupp has never competed in any of them, so please don’t circulate false info, especially if you don’t watch beatboxing championships.
