Today is veterans day and I want to be able to salute the customers who are ex- military who come into my job because it's a sale day. I'm wearing my dad's military jacket so I want to be able to respect everyone because it's an honor to be here on this day.
You don’t salute unless you are a veteran or active military. Even then a salute is warranted unless the raising or lowering of flag or the national anthem. Civs don’t salute
@@squiffedallday ik this is a comment from years ago but dont go telling people they cant salute to people that they wanna salute to that's not cool, as for your other comment if a us ally wants to show respected via salute to the us embassy in their country dont tell them it's not warranted like why cant they.
There are times when saluting indoors is accepted or required: -When reporting to your commander -When reporting to a pay officer -When reporting to a military board -At an indoor ceremony -At sentry duty indoors
Thank you! I visited Tallinn several times in 2003 and 2004. I was always impressed with how friendly and good humored so many Estonians are. It is refreshing to see such a beautiful embrace of democracy in the Baltic region.
You touch the eyeglasses eyebrow or cover with the middle finger. Not the forefinger. And when you present arms and order army you trace your gig line.
Ten, Hut, Yo! Lower arm is supposed to be exactly parallel to the deck, His wasn't bad but not exact. Hand to be tilted down at a 45 degree angle. Again, his not "too" bad. Finally, I didn't like the space between his thumb and hand. Keep it tight, RECRUIT! From a Marine that finished boot camp over 40 years ago, but you NEVER forget this sh t! (-:
I’m in Afjrotc and when I turned around to salute the inspecting officer their assistant laughed at my salute... Even after I worked hard to get it right. (I am an As100 and flight commander so it was my first time) So hopefully this helps me get it right. I think I need to do it all in one motion and get the angle better.
What's the story with saluting with the fingers pointing to the head, back of the hand facing more or less foreward, and elbow foreward. Is this some kind of disrespect? I've seen it on television and some, but not most, ROTC cadets.
The tip of your fingers should come straight up the gig line, not an outward motion as demonstrated. Tip of right middle finger barely touches right temple, don't try to position it on visor of headgear. If you are wearing helmet, temple is blocked, barely touch helmet were temple is. You will have plenty of practice at Basic Training.
I was taught in Civil Air Patrol to do it as you say, bringing the hand up the gig line. This video depicts an outside arc, and that doesn't seem right to me. Is it possible that different branches of the military do it differently? Civil Air Patrol is an Air Force extension.
Just so you know, in the Army the thumb rests on the second digit of the pointer finger at attention and then straight when saluting. The hand is pointing slightly inward - enough to see the pinky in the corner of your eye. When marching, arms must swing naturally and fingers remain curled with thumb always on second digit of pointer finger. My sister said she was taught thumb must point forward. Something that was never mentioned in the Army. Also, I have NEVER heard of the 'gig line'.
Two questions: 1. Why was I recommended this video of customs and courtesies? 2. Why did he utilize a boonie cap while demonstrating "with visored headgear?" Patrol cap would've more appropriate.
Hes not doin it properly, hes not moving his hand up in front of his waste, once your hand pases your waste your hand opens up from a fist to a salute hand and then you perform the rest. lol i just got out of basic so yeah
your arm is supposed to go across your body with a fist and as it comes up you extend your fingers then, you face your palm towards your face not towards the ground. AF Security Forces
1- You're wearing that beret like a highschool marching band. 2- Your fingers are too pointed "up". Straighten them up so they don't look like wing tips !
I think that a salute should go back to original intension. The salute comes from medieval knights before a joust lifting their visor from the chin to reveal their eyes before a contest. That signified that this is who I am and who you are about to contest. Great video though bruh. LET'S GO BRANDON!!👌🇺🇸
That's not how I was taught to salute in basic. This GI looks like a helicopter spinning up - A big No-No. Raising of the hand should NOT go outward but instead, follow a line up and close to the middle of the chest until the index finger reaches the end of the brow. The hand should be turned slightly inwards to show the top of the fingers. If you follow this advice, the geometry of your arm will naturally and always be correct when holding the salute. When Order Arms, the tips of the fingers and the hand should again and quickly follow the line down the middle of the chest until they reach the side of the body. And for heaven's sake, stand up tall and straight, snapping to attention if need be and never lose eye contact. Those two are a demonstration of respect rather than a required courtesy. You want your salute to look natural and not robotic. An honest and meaningful salute will go a long way towards winning the respect of your superiors. If someone worthy of a salute is passing you by, turn perpendicular the their direction of travel ,snap to attention and render a salute as they pass by, about five paces before they pass and again maintaining eye contact. This will give them time to return your salute. A "Good Day, Sir" is often another courtesy unless the one you are saluting is preoccupied, such as talking to another or reading something; then it is advisable to maintain a silence when they pass. Order Arms if they return the salute and in unison as they drop their hand. If no return salute is rendered, hold either for 15 seconds, or until they have passed, or if they stop to talk with you. Be sure to snap to attention and salute once again as they return to their prior undertaking. I don't know how a proper salute is taught now and i suspect it is no different than what I was taught during the Vietnam era. And Yes, I am a Vietnam Veteran. Hope this helps
Veteran's Day is coming up soon and I want to salute my older brother correctly. Thanks so much. I be able to show him respect.

I'm learning this to salute the US flag in front of US embassy in Estonia. Thanks for being our allies! We pay 2% of our GDP to NATO.
m3dicated thanks friend for being an ally to the United Sates. The US will always have Estonia's back and the other way around. 🇺🇸 🇪🇪

Nice instructions. I poked my eye with my finger lol.

I looked to enlist in the military - it's just a shame that I developed a heart and joint problem just before. Still ruins me to this day.
I'm real sorry man, I know for some of us joining the military is a huge dream. You can try others ways to serve your country.

You should always wear headgear while saluting and some countries salute with there hand facing forward
It is different in other countries. The way you describe it is from the British army salute.
How long do you hold it?
Anyone notice the background music? Nice choice.
I am now a proper warrior!
I only knew “Present arms” because of Star Ship Troopers. RIP Diz.
Is it ok to salute a member of the armed forces if you are not involved yourself?
Wet Vein yes I think
You can salute them, but they’re not supposed to salute you back (they probably will if you’re a kid or something tho)
No
Wet Vein no since it’s an act of respect and courage to one troop to the other.
I guess so but it would be pretty weird, just shake a veterans hand

can you salute with the left hand if your left-handed ?
From what I understand, it must always be your right hand, no matter which hand is the dominant one.
