I just want to say thank you Catfish Dave. Before watching your videos I had terrible time trying to catch catfish. I started using skip jack for bait and since then have caught several 35-40 pound blue catfish and one 20 pound flathead just since the beginning of fall and before that I'd be lucky to catch a 2-3 pound channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge sir
You always give great information on how to do. Thats why your the 🔥 catfish KING🔥. Very few fisherman will go in to detail on how to. Your the man in our book. 👍💯🎣💪
Thanks for the help. It nice to see a video with quality info and an instructor that stresses to have patience. This definitely helped me in the learning curve.
I learn more watching you than anyone other combined I grew up fishing east Tennessee every summer break we would come to Farragut to my grandparents all through the 90s I fish the Ohio river where I live but sure miss fishing east Tennessee. Keep em coming Dave awesome content
Thank you. I love fishing for catfish. But I have never use skipjack. Now I will be heading to the camp. You taught me so much, from why the ligh thing.
Dave, THANKS for staying true to bank fishing. Too many people start on the bank until they get enough views to generate income for fancy electronics and boats. They forget what got them to that stage. STAY ON THE BANK!!!!!!!!
I have thought about a small boat to make it easier to get bait. Mainly skipjack because shad are easy enough year round in my area. Even thought about getting a bait license so I could get something back for my time out there. Every hour I spend skipjack fishing I could have been fishing for a big fish somewhere. It is amazing how much time and effort can be put in just for quality fresh bait. I will always bank fish. I like the challenge and in many ways it's less hassle
Appreciate the video Dave, just started catching skipjack this year since moving to Tennessee, don’t have them in NC where I’m from. Just learning and this “fishing video” helped me a lot.
Dang man! Damn the Internet. Now even fishing ain't safe. Here's the free knowledge us boys down here learnt after many season fishing for them Tennessee tarpons. Anyone who's ever had a few seasons down below Milton hill damn would know this. Even leaking the info on Bullrun too...You mean to tell me people actually pay to get their flies tied up in multiple tandems? FOOLS!!! Haha. Love the vids Dave, from an old Knoxville fish rat.
Used your foley spoon set up... I can cast six miles with it. Ain’t got a darn thing on a spoon this year, they only wanted flies and grubs this spring.
I've been using weights on the end to keep it from tangling with crappie jigs. Never thought of using a heavier jig on the end. That's 3 total. Thanks for the idea sir.
Thanks for the video Dave… I had several chasing the other day at Raccoon mtn but they wouldn’t hit it… They would just come up and bump the line and the spoon.. It was so frustrating.
Good info. Thanks. Here in Missouri its bluegill and blizzard shad mainly. I fished the Arkansas river a lot growing up. On the Oklahoma side I saw none but in Arkansas there were some.
over here in SC, we get a spring run of american shad that hit the same lures that you use... are these fish the same as skipjacks? If so... I never hear of anyone fishing for them other than spring time.... maybe we should be trying to do that during other seasons?
im new to skipjacks but i like to use them on the trotline because fresh bait is good and the oil in them works good. i need to learn to get them year round. i was getting them the past month and half and improved my trotline catch a lot. though i also learned a lot to and where to find the fish but ya all a sudden that spot isnt producing anymore. so i need to learn to get them now. i do see a lot in bays in some parts of the year. but do you catch a lot at once on say a smaller sabiki rig in the bays? because with trotlines i like to catch the smaller ones but fast so i can have enough for a few days fishing in a couple hours. unless getting big ones every cast then those can be good also. but a small one with a lot of time in between is just too slow for trotlines but good for regular catfishing. idk if you ever tried buffalo but i might just learn to get those also because the catfish love them and if i catch one nice sized one i can do boxes for a couple days.
Tennessee tarpons!! We don't have any Skip's around here where I live but I still enjoy the content and the chance of learning about them bc I might need to know about how to catch them in the future
Ok, what about small rivers? I've never caught one in the Pearl River in central Ms, but they are supposed to be in there. What areas should I target, shallow fast water, top of the deeper pools where the water slows down or the middle of the deep pools?
Thanks for this video trying to learn skipjack method I live very close to locks & dam on Ohio river & want to add fresh skip jack to my catfish bait arsenal instead of just using blue Gil & creek chubs or over priced frozen skip jack from bait store. Thank you!
Get them on ice as soon as you take them off the hook. An ice /salt/water mixture is best. Use a vacuum sealer to get all the air out of your package and freeze them cold and fast. No lollygagging. Cabela's has them for sale in their stores. Watch Steve Douglas or Muddy water Catfishing for more info, they are both on TH-cam.Good luck!
Thanks Dave for this info. I live in west Texas 4 hrs from the nearest lake any ideas on lake and river fishing, that doesn't have much if any moving water?? Tia....
Yea They sit south below the mouth of the ohio river, they do like prefer flowing water and dam's have affected spawns.. Keep after em dave,i'd sleigh catfish if i had skipjackup here in cincinnati have great spots gravel pits ect....
Thanks for this video, I never fished for skipjack until yesterday and your advice was very helpful. I brought enough home to last a little while.

Dave have you tried a Mepps spinner on those fish?
I'm thinkin, tiny blue fox vibrax spinner, gold blade, baby blue wth black spots on body. That company still around ?
We have America shade here in Oregon how big do the skip jack get?
A little over 4 pounds...3 is a big one..i have seen days where they average 2 lbs and be over 21 inches
Will Dave that looks like a perfect place to catch some catfish you should make a catfish video on that spot
Catfish Dave What Radio Station do you work for???? Why not just throw a net and in 10 to 15 minutes have all the bait fish in the creek???
Thanks Dave for this info. I live in west Texas 4 hrs from the nearest lake any ideas on lake and river fishing, that doesn't have much if any moving water?? Tia....

Catfish Dave: Why not use polarized sunglasses?
@matt xoxo Yeah, I bet they would help see the bait fish and etc. Walgreens has a great selection of different type of clip ons if you wear glasses.

I catch em all the time on priest and old hickory. use them live for striper and cats
