These are legendary in the BABYMETAL fan community. The origin of so much we love about the girls and gives us an insight to what they might be like as people. It also gives us a look at the SG girls who are equally good fun. Mori-sensei has a genuine affection for all of them.
This was the first occurrence of it, but eventually those 3 words “Gakunen Massu Testo” would send shivers down the members’ spines. Especially in later years when they were accompanied by pranks and jump scares. With Sakura Gakuin having the concept of a school, the members referred to their producers, vocal coaches, dance instructors, etc. as teachers. Mori-sensei doesn’t fit that description as he is not a staff teacher in the traditional sense. He is a comedian and writer by trade and is hired talent in the same way the girls are. Having said that, he works with the girls quite a lot and writes their skits for them as well as their verses in Mezase Superlady. He is very gifted in helping the girls become more comfortable on stage or on camera and in bringing out their personality, which is why he has definitely earned the title of sensei. He seems a genuinely good guy as well. He’s a family man who talks about his wife a lot. He cares a lot for the SG members too, and even keeps track of the graduates. The SG staff found the perfect homeroom teacher. He has the best job in the world and has got 36 bonus daughters out of it.

@@minamihideki7123 I'd love to see them react to every Nendo test. And of course the pranks that Mori-sensei set up before most of them. SO glad you finally got into the nendo tests: best way to get to know them. And yes, Mori-sensei is awesome and he has the damn best job on the planet!!! Golden Week The Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays within seven days. In combination with well placed weekends, the Golden Week becomes one of Japan's three busiest holiday seasons, besides New Year and the Obon week. Trains, airports and sightseeing spots get very crowded during Golden Week, and accommodation in tourist areas can get booked out well in advance. The national holidays making up the Golden Week are: April 29 Showa Day (Showa no hi): April 29 is the birthday of former Emperor Showa, who died in the year 1989. Until 2006, Greenery Day (see May 4) used to be celebrated on this day. May 3 Constitution Day (Kenpo kinenbi): On this day in 1947, the new postwar constitution was put into effect. May 4 Greenery Day (Midori no hi): Until 2006, Greenery Day used to be celebrated on April 29, the birthday of former Emperor Showa. The day is dedicated to the environment and nature, because the emperor loved plants and nature. Before being declared Greenery Day, May 4 used to be a national holiday due to a law, which declares a day, that falls between two national holidays, a national holiday. May 5 Children's Day (Kodomo no hi): The Boy's Festival (Tango no Sekku) is celebrated on this day. Families pray for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carp streamers and displaying samurai dolls, both symbolizing strength, power and success in life. The Girl's Festival is celebrated on March 3.
Just came down here to write this. Thank you for saving me time (and putting much more info than I was going to)! Of course, its not that crowded this year....
So when "former" Emperor Akihito dies, the Showa no Hi will turn into Heisei no hi? Or because he abdicated the throne, it won't change? Or it's does't have any connection with the death of the Emperor, but is "just" an homage to Emperor Showa?
I learnt the raining in sunshine expression "kitsune no yomeiri" yesterday randomly as learning Japanese. translates to a "A fox wedding" roughly. Funny how as soon as you hear something new you will hear it again suddenly.
in Bangladesh, Bengali culture, ... there is a similar proverb for this situation --- we say - "মেঘ হচ্ছে, রোদ হচ্ছে, শিয়ালের বিয়ে হচ্ছে" which translates -- "it's raining, the sun is shining, the fox is getting married" :D
@@zahidurrahman2869 that's interesting. I wonder if a fox marriage is commonly used this way in many other cultures. I know I had never heard it used to represent rain before.
@@0okamino ... hahaha ... XD, ... maybe, who knows! well. we don't say FoxGod, ... we say "শিয়াল পন্ডিত" = "Fox Pandit" ( a "Pandit" is a person with specialised knowledge or a teacher of any field of knowledge) .... Fox represents knowledge/wit ... in Bengali folklore. :D
I can't really say if you really think he's a/their teacher, but Mori Hayashi is a comedian and script writer, he only plays their teacher. He does it phenomenally and everyone would love to have a teacher like him, but he's just an actor. Without him writing the scripts for their plays and hosting their weekly shows, I don't think SG would have gotten as "big" as it is. His main job is to draw out their personalities, which you really start to see in the 2011 test in my opinion. A lot of graduates really look(ed) up to him while in and after their time as a member, especially the ones who wanted to do TV and/or acting. He really broke the door by the way in this video, there's a behind the scenes clip in which they show the aftermath of him slamming the door open and the staff trying to fix it. The girls also usually get pranked before the test announcement/to announce the test, but I think that started in 2011 and was first shown in a video in the 2013 test.
The girls often mention the "Staff-san" as being crucial to their success. That of course includes Mikiko, and Mori as well as a bunch of other people we don't see as much. All of these people are pretty personally involved in the girl's growth, so he *is* kind of their teacher in a way since he is an industry pro working with girls whose goal is to eventually become industry pros themselves. I'm sure he's often called as a reference when these girls are looking for work.
Mori-sensei is a genius. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of each one of the girls and finds a way to improve the former and iron out the latter. He plays a very crucial role in developing the girls characters and making them the great human beings they are. And he does it in a very entertaining way, too. He's a writer and was part of a pretty well known comedy duo years ago. So he's an eloquent, funny and smart guy, I think. All of the SG girls are very ambitious, I totally believe that Ayami was dead serious when she said the doesn't deserve to be the leader at the end. I find that in itself very admirable.
Did anyone else notice that Moa is so tiny that her feet don't even touch the ground when she is at her desk? I believe that Yui was 4'6" and Moa was 4'5" when they joined SG.
the raining in the sunshine expression "kitsune no yomeiri" means "foxes wedding" . ... and interestingly ... in Bangladesh, Bengali culture, there is a similar proverb -- "মেঘ হচ্ছে, রোদ হচ্ছে, শিয়ালের বিয়ে হচ্ছে" which translates -- "it's raining, the sun is shining, the fox is getting married" :D
If you think she's unhappy you should see the last test Nendo 19, Momoe - the most intelligent of all the girl - want to keep her winning streak - cry in relief as she came first again for the 3rd time, Tsugumi - who is the same age - tried year after year to beat her but failed again, Soyoka - another senior want so bad to be the third (as she said she is a senior and should be better than younger girls). She cried as she wasn't 3rd. They were so emotional to the point that staff said next time we mustn't let it be like this, as it suppose to be fun for the girl.
I started learning about SG from Babymetal and was most interested in how the BM members developed as artists and performers, but I think my favorite member is Marina Horiuchi. She is the most 4D member of SG by a big margin. And with Su in the group that's saying something.
The Nendo class tests are so much fun. In the future you can see Su give the greatest wrong answer of all time in 2012, and Moa have a total meltdown in 2014. Even though Mori Sensei is not a real teacher, he is the glue that holds Sakura Gakuin together. The tests are not about what has been taught but just general knowledge questions. There is no pass or fail in this, only bragging rights for those who do well and humiliation for those who do poorly. I have always felt that these tests are partly to toughen the girls up a bit. The entertainment industry can be cruel and unforgiving, so learning to accept criticism and even ridicule helps male the girls stronger. The two girls who share the same birthday, Ayami and Marina, are amongst the most popular Sakura Gakura alumni. Class president Ayami was one of Su's fellow Keren Girl's; and released her latest solo music CD last year. Marina Horiuchi was class president in 2013 and released her first solo CD earlier this year.
Great to see that you finally start with the Nendo Tests, I love all of them. I'm always amazed with Marinas answers. Golden Week is from the 29th of April to the 6th of May, there are Shōwa Day 29th of April, Constitution Memorial Day 3rd of May, Greenery Day 4th of May and Children's Day 5th of May. A Compensation Holiday is held on either on the 30th of April or the 6th of May should any of the Golden Week holidays fall on Sunday.
🌸 🏫 / 📝 These are pop quizzes, but there's no advance notice what random questions are going to be on the test. So you can't really study for this. It's all in the vague category of "common knowledge", not stuff they have learned in Sakura Gakuin.
Well, it's not a real school and i highly doubt it was a real test. I've seen the outtakes. It is about as real as Saved by the Bell. But it's still cute, it doesn't matter that it wasn't real. It's more impressive that it wasn't real. They were all acting. They had camera men right in their faces. I couldn't do it. They learned a lot more from this than they would have learned from a real test.
@@Dragon-Believer They are entertainers, there are cameras, make up, etc. but they don't know the questions in advance, they don't even know the day of the test, and of course the tests are not real in the sense that they are testing girls from a wide range of grades, and the questions need to be entertaining.
@@cadiazm - How do you know that they even took a test? It's show business. They never showed them taking the test beyond a few seconds and it looked like they were acting. When Mori left the room to 'grade' the tests he probably came back 10 seconds later with all the material written by staff writers. But i am not saying this for any other reason than that i am a person who values truth for it's own sake. I don't think it matters one way or the other. It doesn't make anybody any less that it was fake. It's show business. It's supposed to be fake.
@@Dragon-Believer There is an interview answered by Iida Raura when asked about the genuienity of the test. She had gone on as saying it is as real as it gets. Random basic common knowledge questionares. And from following tests. Mori Hayashi have gone on in the same segment that he with fellow staff members mark their answers and laughing at their insane answers. Now whether they take this seriously is another questions because their answer can be really be out there. It can be safe to assume some of them answer it on basis of their own personality rather than correct answer. Having said all that having seen them being stiff and unnatural in their weekly Fresh show I dont think all of them are that good of an actresses to be able to cry and be sad when they failed the test. Two names which I believe use this to their advantage to show their personality Okada Megumi and Okazaki Momoko. One to shine to show the fans she is a smart girl and the other showing what a funny girl she is though on her last test Momoko does look worried if fans see her as too dumb.
Has anyone ever thought about the original conversation with the Kami band. Something like this "Hello guys, i know you are the four best metal musicians in Japan but i have an idea. I have three teenage girls that i want yo to play behind while they sing the songs, What do you think".... This i why i have so much time for these guys, they always leave everything on the stage. They never let the girls down. Boh is always giving 100% and the drummer .. well...what can i say... all of them. Also the girls never ever let them down either. What a band this is...They have to be one of the best of all time. I LOVE BABYMETAL.
Little did American's know that for the last 20 years, they've been grilling burgers and hotdogs and setting off fireworks to celebrate Moa's birthday. Think of "Golden Week" as "Spring Break", if it were an official national holiday for the entire country. There are 4 official Holidays within the week at the end of April - start of May. If you keep watching these as the years progress, the girls start to consider the grades as more and important, with the battle for first becoming somewhat intense as well as the shame of being last. Because they start trying to avoid being tested, Morei-sensei starts setting up pranks to get them into a room for the test, with the pranks becoming progressively more elaborate. Not something you need to do a reaction video on, but for your own edification, on TH-cam there is a radio broadcast where Morei-sensei talks about being in the audience for the girls Tokyo Dome concert and then meeting them backstage (he has a radio shown in Japan). Pretty inciteful content you may want to check out for a better understanding of many things.
Japan is clever. They lost the traditional war but have since realized the huge asset they have. That being the adorable cuteness and talent of their children... I have no doubt SG was just stage 1 of their subterfuge as they hypnotize and coerce Americans one emotion, nendo, and baby metal song at a time... 👀
it's a common knowledge quiz, not stuff they study everyday. Thats the reason they dont have a A, B, C or D like a normal test. Ayaka Miyoshi, Airi (the tallest girls) and Ayami (the president Class) are the older members, Magz and LVT reacted a video were Ayaka Miyoshi, Airi and Hourichi Marina (the girl with weird answers XD) make a cover of Doki Doki Morning. Ayami was part of Karen Girls with Suzuka. They already reacted a video of Unhelpful Guide Babymetal, in that video had a mention of the birhtday of Moa, 4 of July haha. Please dont forget it again 😊
"reacted a video were Ayami, Airi and Hourichi Marina (the girl with weird answers XD) make a cover of Doki Doki Morning." That 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' shuffle-unit cover had Ayaka, Airi and Marina. Not Ayami.
Marina Horiuchi was the first one to figure out that the funnier the answer the more entertaining it will be. Plus, she's a little bit quirky and weird. I say that in the nicest and most admiring manner. I think Ayami was really trying. It just seems that the student council president is destined to not do well. Check out some of her music, too. You might like it. Yes, this is filmed for fun and giggles but it is a real quiz. I love how Yui runs up to Moa to rub it in her face but ends up celebrating with her when they tie. Sisters from another mister. Hope you keep going on these. They're good fun. Wait until you meet the 'principal.' He's a cool dude. #SG4Life
According to Einstein's stay in Japan for a lecture, he had his first experience of being happily surrounded by female students of the same age as them.
If you were befuddled by some of Marina's answers, buckle in! You've got three more tests with her, and she does not disappoint. :D You've already seen what's in the _How Tall_ video. It was the height comparison segment in the documentary you watched. The look on Su's face is because Raura is messing with her by acting silly.
"Golden Week" has just begun in Japan this week. However, we have been declared a state of emergency by the government due to the spread of the virus. We are asked to be quiet in the house.
Nice, the tests have begun. I will suggest that when you do the 2013 test onward, you also show the pre test prank. I would like to donate again but I cant swing it at the moment.
I feel like Marina Horiuchi, the second from last position girl is naturally funny. Some of her answer in later test was comedy gold. There's this video of her and two other girls wearing lab coats and they answering questions about science. Her answer for "who come up with Heliocentric theory" makes me burst out laughing.😁

just a slight correction, I am not sure if it is the case in the States but I think tests are normally graded on a curve so that 50% pass and 50% fail to account for tests being more or less difficult from year to year
I really wish the subtitles were fixed before they uploaded it. "Gakunen Matsu Testo" means "school year end test" I don't know why they translated it as "sudden mass test". Also they only had 5 minutes to answer all 20 questions not 50 minutes. He clearly says "go hun kan" not "go juu hun kan". I'm not an expert in Japanese and even I know this.
@@MettalMaffiaOfficial I know it wasn't you, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was blaming you. I meant I wish the uploader had done some basic fixing of the subtitles before people like you took the time to watch it. All Babymetal and Sakura Gakuin videos you see with subtitles, the subs were done by fans. But since they didn't have as many fans in their early years, most of the subs from before around 2014 are very poor. But with so many videos to translate most people who do subs nowadays only work on newer content. It would be nice though if someone could go back to their older videos and improve the subs for newer fans like you guys. That's all I was trying to say. PS: I really love your Babymetal and Sakura Gakuin reactions! I hope you keep going even after the original Babymetal members graduated from SG in 2014. Sakura Gakuin really improved a lot in the last couple of years!
Mori is a well known comedian in Japan and the one who wrote the scripts. I don't want burst anyone's bubble, but these are scripted TV skits much same as a SNL skit. Acting was a major part of their training at Sakura Gakuin. Did you notice that Mori calls them Nakamoto, Mizuno, and Kikuchi. FYI at her real school Moa was a straight A student!
"Wrote "the scripts" " I'm trying to figure out if you're bursting people's bubble about it being a "real school" (it isn't, of course) or if you're trying to imply that this isn't as off-the-cuff as people think and everything must be heavily scripted line by line like in a movie script (I don't think this is true). Most of the Sakura Gakuin skits (like the one where Yui and Airi trade places for example) are scripted...that would be more in line with an SNL-style skit. The players memorize lines and recite them. But the Nendo tests are more off-the-cuff than I think you're giving them credit for. I don't think the level of scripting for the Nendo tests is much more involved than what a teacher might do for designing a lesson plan for a class of students. I actually do think the girls take a test, and it's the answers they give on those tests that determines what kind of script he wants to build and what kind of scene and punchlines he wants to put into place. He sets the scene using that script, and the girls have characters (chara) that they're supposed to be playing, in which they give off-the-cuff responses to this scene that he's set into place. The girls are putting themselves in the situation and reacting how they would if they were truly in that situation. It's more of an improv skit that has certain arrival points as well as a pre-scripted finish. To be honest, I think the format has more in common with a D&D campaign. A lot of factors are pre-set, along with a predetermined desitnation, but the overall flow is more-or-less completely improvised.
@@outwest1014 Yes, and in this case he was able to base his script on the members answers to the test questions. Mori-sen is a really good comic writer, but I don't think even he has got the imagination needed to make up Marina's answers. : )
i got a few suggestions for ya try some Ladybaby like their song Riot Anthem or Starless Sky or some Sleigh Bells songs like Infinity Guitars or Riot Rhythm
I've been waiting eagerly for this. The Nendo tests are incredibly entertaining and you get to know them all. I don't understand why this is called remastered ... the subs are horrorable
Like half the stuff LVT says is getting cut out because of whatever setting or filter you have your mics on. :/ Also, Sakura Gakuin isn’t a real school. Mori is not a teacher. He is like an actor/comedian who just plays their teacher. All the girls still go to actual schools. SG is just themed around school.
Not a real school and not a real test. Everybody was acting. It's a lot more impressive that way. Those little girls had camera men right in their faces. I've seen the outtakes. Anybody can take a real test. This is a lot harder. I thought for the closeup shots they used a zoom lens. Nope. There was a camera man holding a full sized television camera 6 inches from their faces.
@@cadiazm - Are you just saying that or do you know? Because i've had a lot of people tell me that it was a real school and that is complete nonsense. Seems like people want to have some weird fantasy about it. I don't get it.
@@Dragon-Believer Someone once told me that the group is officially registered and considered as an actual school lol, don't know where this is coming from xD
The real school thing is complete none sense, and people who believe that are new to the group, since they never say that and make it clear in many ways that they are a “school themed idol” and that the girls attend “real” schools. I followed them for many years, initially because of BM, not anymore sadly, and have watched different videos, concerts, LoGirl and Fresh episodes, behind the scenes, read translated dairies, etc. Any material pre 2020, And it’s clear to me that although they follow scripts, there are also improvised and natural components, like here in the nendo tests, their diaries, etc. In some nendo tests you can see the frustration of the girls when they do badly. Again they know they are being filmed of course and the purpose of what they are doing, so it’s not completely real or natural, but they are not told to answer incorrectly.
@@cadiazm i don't know if you are familiar with Craig Ferguson, but the Nendo Tests give me the same kind of vibe, i.e. the element of improv. (Btw, Craig is one of my favorite comedians)

However, I have pretty collected a lot of their CDs, DVDs, and recent magazines featuring them.

Golden Week
The Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays within seven days. In combination with well placed weekends, the Golden Week becomes one of Japan's three busiest holiday seasons, besides New Year and the Obon week.
Trains, airports and sightseeing spots get very crowded during Golden Week, and accommodation in tourist areas can get booked out well in advance.
The national holidays making up the Golden Week are:
April 29
Showa Day (Showa no hi):
April 29 is the birthday of former Emperor Showa, who died in the year 1989. Until 2006, Greenery Day (see May 4) used to be celebrated on this day.
May 3
Constitution Day (Kenpo kinenbi):
On this day in 1947, the new postwar constitution was put into effect.
May 4
Greenery Day (Midori no hi):
Until 2006, Greenery Day used to be celebrated on April 29, the birthday of former Emperor Showa. The day is dedicated to the environment and nature, because the emperor loved plants and nature. Before being declared Greenery Day, May 4 used to be a national holiday due to a law, which declares a day, that falls between two national holidays, a national holiday.
May 5
Children's Day (Kodomo no hi):
The Boy's Festival (Tango no Sekku) is celebrated on this day.
Beat me to it. 😆
Ouh yes.
_"May 3 Constitution Day (Kenpo kinenbi)"_
Wow, that's the Constitution Day here in Poland too :D
@@zahidurrahman2869 That old Fox God really gets around, huh? :D
As I read “a Fox’s Wedding” I instantly thought of “The Fox’s Wedding” vocaliod song sung by the vocalioids Miku and Gumi.
The subtitles might be off but not Mori-Sensei's punchlines. They hit, and they hit hard lol
I wonder if some time in the past the expression traveled from one country to the other?
As I like to say "Marina Horiuchi is made of magic!"

These are pop quizzes, but there's no advance notice what random questions are going to be on the test.
Well, one question which is common: the members names and how you write them. :-)
Sooooo when we getting the next few nendos? Compact DeLorean can't wait forever (:
Super Moa Day is definitely a celebration for the world. :D

All Babymetal and Sakura Gakuin videos you see with subtitles, the subs were done by fans. But since they didn't have as many fans in their early years, most of the subs from before around 2014 are very poor. But with so many videos to translate most people who do subs nowadays only work on newer content. Hey MM your really missing something special if you miss reacting to SG Mini Patti Haniri Shaniri Doryicia Yui Hana, Moa cuteness overload
In that case that would make them very effective actors like their reactions are very spontaneous and natural.
@@jamesdean3352 Have you seen the videos of Nakamoto performing in a stage play in Hiroshima before Sakura Gakuin??
"Wrote "the scripts" "
I'm trying to figure out if you're bursting people's bubble about it being a "real school" (it isn't, of course) or if you're trying to imply that this isn't as off-the-cuff as people think and everything must be heavily scripted line by line like in a movie script (I don't think this is true).
@@takigan Mori is one in an interview who stated that he wrote the scripts for the classroom scenes.
@@outwest1014 Yes, and in this case he was able to base his script on the members answers to the test questions. Mori-sen is a really good comic writer, but I don't think even he has got the imagination needed to make up Marina's answers. : )

If you want to see Su getting in real trouble you have to watch Nendo Test 2012.
Shhh.. no spoilers hehe 😁
Nene didnt fail. 60% is not a failing grade.
Compact deLoreans for EVERYONE!
Finally 😁
Yes, finally 😁😍🤘
Next reac to song from sakura gakuin GANBARE, HANA HANA,
Did u guys see Moa dress up like the teacher????
What they've seen so far hasn't contained much material from the LoGirl episodes, so that's yet to come. :)
Nendo Test .... one of the best series in Sakura Gakuin.
i got a few suggestions for ya try some Ladybaby like their song Riot Anthem or Starless Sky or some Sleigh Bells songs like Infinity Guitars or Riot Rhythm
Just make sure you do the tests in order ...
I've been waiting eagerly for this. The Nendo tests are incredibly entertaining and you get to know them all.
I don't understand why this is called remastered ... the subs are horrorable
50% at least in S'pore means you pass. Barely though Grade C6.
Like half the stuff LVT says is getting cut out because of whatever setting or filter you have your mics on. :/
Also, Sakura Gakuin isn’t a real school. Mori is not a teacher. He is like an actor/comedian who just plays their teacher. All the girls still go to actual schools. SG is just themed around school.
Finally! :)

Not a real school, or test, but not all is scripted, the results are not, the girls don't know the questions in advance
