you're so right... the grass is always greener!! I'm Canadian, born in Canada and moved to the UK. Had a massive culture shock and ended up coming home at the beginning of covid. Both countries are so different yet I can't say one is better than the other (in my experience) they both have their own unique problems.

@@ayshas288 Imagine the culture shock moving from Canada to the UK. LOL, two Anglophone countries that share the same monarch. Now imagine the culture shock if you moved from Canada to say Korea or Japan. That's more of a culture shock.

@@harisadu8998 you should move there and find out 😂 no but tbh- it’s only because I was expecting there to be *no* difference between UK and Canada. I was very young and naive when I moved. Not to mention my boyfriend at the times family were super religious so I was thrust into all of that.
For those who adapt quickly, don’t get caught up on things like food, transportation, small cultural differences etc. you’ll probably be fine.
But don’t make the mistake that I did in assuming everything just because we both speak English in CA and in the UK everything going to be “exactly” the same lol. Definitely not

Although I am thankful that Canada gave me opportunities, I just never felt Canada was where I was meant to be. Next year I will be selling everything I own and leaving Canada to live elsewhere. @@MakeThatChange - I think in my case it was anecdotal events in my life that shaped my feelings about Canada. I had my best friend, who is "Canadian" betray me. I had a couple of failed long term relationships with "Canadians", and I worked for a "Canadian" company that was, in the end, a very morally questionable organization. These are just my experiences and I realize that most people will not feel the same as they will have different experiences. I am sure now is time for the white stripes in your life and I believe you've come out stronger out of all of them.

Além disso, nossa presidência só has let us down, decidindo contra a ciência e desrespeitando várias minorias! E pra ferrar mais ainda, temos um risco ainda de ter um dos piores ladrões da história como presidente de novo (Lula). Imagina você estar sob essa pressão? She's also their country and they have rights to point out problems about her. That's how people voice their concerns and how problems are surfaced and addressed for improvements. Everyone has his or her own circumstances so I don't think it's right to judge them as lazy or not being flexible and tell them to move out if they don't like it here. Instead we should have empathy and strive to understand others as much as we can.

A professional consulting firm evaluated my file and found me eligible for 3 immigration programs including the Federal Skilled Workers program. This is very great. However, when I think about it, I ask myself: what is the guarentee that I will be employed in my actual work field (education, research ...) after spending a period doing survival works? Am I going to spend all my resources for nothing? It is for sure the most tough choice I faced in my whole life.

Hi! We are working on the video based on the exact questions you asked, keep an eye on our channel, we will release it very soon! 😊 In the meantime, food for thought - why do you want to move to Canada? Is there something you're not happy with in your home country that makes you want to move to Canada specifically? And what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve success in the new country? (Keep in mind there's no guarantee you'll have to struggle to find a job in your field. And there's no guarantee you won't. What you can guarantee yourself is that you will do your research about job market and how to look for a job, and be ready and be flexible)

@@MakeThatChange Well, since I had my PhD diploma, I was travelling from a country to another and working in different universities and Labs as a researcher. The opportunities in my home country are very limited. Now I am working as a researcher in China. However, what prompted my thoughts to immigrate to Canad is the seek of the stability. I have been married very recently and I cannot even bring my wife with me to China because of the COVID restrcition policies. I don't feel happy far from my wife and this is not the life that we both have imagined. The last time I saw her was only for 20 days after being separated for over 2 years because of the pandemic and then I had to go back to work alone and here we go again. Therefore, I thought about Canada to reach the stability we need. Even though I am a doctor in Physics and my wife is a doctor in Pharmacy, coming to Canada might be also a risk in my opinion. We might find ourselves working survival jobs for long period if no one of us find a suitable position in his professional field.

    Another Great video.
Educational in a fun way as per usual.
I’ve always tried to think of Canada as being filled with Villages.
Where if your someplace you have never been before you watch your manners until you learn the customs of that village.
I’ve seen this difference personally in neighbouring blocks.
If your intelligent and a bit sneaky. You get to sample all kinds of lovely food from different cultures.
I’ve found that most (not all) immigrants that I have met that consider themselves proudly Canadian.
Love to share their culture from their home country with anyone that is genuinely interested.
Also unlike the movies. If you offend someone’s culture in Canada. The most serious thing that is likely to happen is you will be asked to leave.
Whereas in the movies you could be hung for offending someone’s culture.
One final thing all new Immigrants should learn.
    “The Apology Act”
Think about what type of people would write that into law and you will understand what it is to be Canadian a bit better.

On one hand you say that you can buy a degree in other countries like Russia. On the other hand you complain that people coming to Canada are forced to retrain or recertify in order to get licensed. Obviously, you justified that requirement. If you are getting heart surgery, you expect a certain level of competency and would not want someone who bought their medical degree abroad. Pretty much every Western country requires retraining or recertification from US to Germany to UK.
And with your example of that that Russian guy who left due to taxes, you bring up the main reason why many people immigrate to Canada that you don't really talk about in your videos: higher salary due to access to the Canadian labor market. You have people in software engineering in Bangalore making $5k USD/yr, Canada/Europe $80k-$100k and US $150k to upwards of $400k /yr. I know

    • @MakeThatChange
      @MakeThatChange  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Andrew you’re right. Where the issue arises is the misaligned expectations between how easy Canada makes it look vs the reality of getting recertified.
As for salaries, I think we’ve gotta also look at the cost of living. Yes you’d make 150k as an engineer in Toronto, but you’ll pay a third of that amount for rent, then add utilities and other living expenses, etc.

Canada was fantastic around the early 1400s... incredible unspoiled wildlife, beavers and bison roamed freely, the indigenous population remained free of western European diseases and greed (and residential schools). Yes a few Vikings made it to the north shores of what was later to be named the island of Newfoundland - but it was more like an extended canoe camping trip... before the Basque, French and Irish/English fished out the cod to near extinction. 1970s? bell bottoms, disco and Margaret T - can't imagine a worse decade.

Me personally, I've never been judged by my accent or looks... but my philosophy is: it's up to me to decide what to read into someone's reaction towards me or comments or judgement. Worst thing I can do is get offended and escalate situation and solidify someone's bad judgement. Best thing is to shake it off by making a joke and laughing together. I hope you know what I mean!

One of the takeaways from this is that if you have true morals in all aspects of life, then Canada might not be for you. Check out how few Canadians actually associate with a particular religion, or even believe in a god at all, and you'll understand their mentality as a whole. It sounded to me like this video not only equates progressiveness with accepting sinfulness, but also suggests going beyond being tolerant, and instead promotes acceptance of sinful ways that no god would find acceptable. Then again, this is the result of godless people. Keep in mind that having morals does not a phobia make.

Your video reminded me what I disliked Canada once I was there and why I like Switzerland where I am living now. No need to be ashamed of not dating non-White people, no need to be happy with people who does not respect women's rights, no need to believe such cultures are enrichment. I realised I should be happy to be outside Canada after getting through your points.
There are dozens of people in Canada who are not treating girls as second class kids and make them inferior to all. None of them ever integrate. They force all to appraise their freedom of killing girls for getting child out of wedlock. Those who are not happy are accused of "phobia". But I guess Canada is good for one group of people and countries like Switzerland for another. Canada is NOT for those who have strong national identity, who are proud from their countries/cultures, for whom history, tradition and family matters. Such believes are sufficient to be racist/homophobic and even if being "racist" and "homophobic" means being heterosexual white who is dating only heterosexual whites and hope one day marry to have kids and get them baptised in a church of choice. In Europe this is being average.
