The INSANE Prime of Todd Helton

- Todd Helton was a Rockies lifer. In 17 years with Colorado, he assembled a Hall of Fame resume. During his peak, he was one of the best pure hitters of his generation, even outside of Coors Field, a consideration often scrutinized by Cooperstown voters. Helton was also among the finest defensive first basemen of the early 2000s, and he has the hardware to back his case. He even approached baseball’s holy grail for batting average. Helton’s loyalty and unwavering dedication to the team made him beloved by the fans. Despite contending with injuries in the latter part of his career, he left an indelible mark on the Colorado Rockies franchise.

Congrats to Todd Helton on getting elected to the Hall of Fame! The wait is finally over. 😅
My little league team was really good, and they invited all the good teams in the metro area to be "honored" pre-game on field. Todd Helton was the nicest dude (besides Larry Walker who let me sit on his motorcycle).
Because of him I'm sadly a Rockies fan for life.
@@SirRichardHardenThicke Wow that's awesome thank you for sharing! I wish I had an experience with two Hall of Famers 🤯
@@Cam23 Larry Walker parked his custom Harley behind the left field wall, the open spot at Coors, where the carts come and go. As a 10/11 year old I remember looking up and just thinking "he's too big, I will never go pro because giants are playing this game."
Also good video. Thanks for even highlighting my team.
@@SirRichardHardenThicke I find it fascinating how moments like that can leave a lasting impression!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Walker and Helton were both very enjoyable players to research and learn more about
Helton is a Hall of Famer, and I will not be convinced otherwise. On top of all the offensive accomplishments listed, he is 2nd all time in total zone runs for 1st basemen, making him one of the best defensive 1st basemen of all time. He has an Avg+ of 118, tied for 31st all time, and an OBP+ of 122, 24th all time. Also thanks for pulling out that Petco Park stat, that’s one I didn’t know about
Bro wasn’t even a perennial all star candidate if you look at his performance away from Coors. Bonds had PEDs, Helton had altitude. Joke of a selection
@@reidjames2938 If you prefer a smaller hall, I get that, I'm not saying Helton is an inner circle hall of famer. But I think the video explains very well that just because Helton's road OPS is .855 as a Rockie, that doesn't mean that would be his career OPS had he played somewhere else. Matt Holliday had an .803 road OPS as a Rockie, and an .849 road OPS as a Cardinal. DJ Lemahieu had a .673 road OPS as a Rockie, and a .739 road OPS as a Yankee. Nolan Arenado had a .793 road OPS with the Rockies, and since joining the Cardinals has an .859 road OPS. When good hitters leave the Rockies and suddenly become better on the road, that should tell you that there's more to it than "Coors high altitude, ball go far"
@@reidjames2938you know nothing about baseball 😂 go watch cricket jabroni
Well you would be right
Be the first channel to do a video on Roy Oswalt in over 2 years. Truly an underrated 50+ WAR player.
Damn Roy O was awesome, I'm a native Houstonian so we saw him pitch a lot. He was truly underrated, those were the years where the Astros were a media black hole though, nobody cared, we were irrelevant. So a lot of our stars flew under the radar.
W
What's WAR some useless stat. to a SP is walks, hits and more importantly era. The lower the era the best you give the club to win a gave, especially with a strong bullpen. Anything below a 2.5 with a strong bullpen and low era as well. It's pretty much game over! Ha WAR hahaha
@@gabrielv.2647 WAR is just an easy way to quickly sum up a career. He had a career 2.1 BB9, 3.37 FIP, and 127 ERA+. So he has other strong stats when you dig deeper.
@@mofny I'm from he old school. What's sums up a career it depends if they where a pitcher or a hitter/ position player.
Hitter avg, hits, doubles, hits homers, homers I give a pass because it don't just matter about homers. And and OBP helps. Obp is a team stat helps the team score runs.
A pitchers. Especially a SP. Walks to strikeouts, I can care less for strikeouts but I hate walks don't give em up! Hits, era! Especially era. And IP maybe but same time if your.team has a strong Bullpen if your a star give me 6-7 and we'll pass it on to the pen and get the W
WHOS HERE AFTER HELTON HOF ANNOUNCEMENT
It is so nice to hear someone who doesn't cover the Rockies regularly call out the negative effects of playing here in Colorado
One of my favorite players ever. Great video, man!
What's up Fuzz! I clicked on this because I saw the notification linked to your channel, I'm gonna give this one a sub too.
Thank you Fuzzy! After making this video, I would have to say he's one of my favorite players ever now too 😎
The tone and timing of this video is made all the more meaningful since Helton’s HoF induction last night. Well deserved indeed!
When I was planning for January uploads, I had my eye on January 23rd because I had a feeling this was Todd's year. I am thrilled he finally gets a Cooperstown nod!
Would love to see one on Jeff Kent. Most home runs by a second baseman in history, and just a clutch player all around.
Can you please do a Michael Young video. He was very underrated, he had like 6 seasons with 200 hits or more
I was just lookin at his page the other day and was thinking wow he is way too overlooked
Great idea
Michael Young was awesome do a video!!
Love Michael Young. He was my first SS in fantasy for like 4 years lol.
Now he's just the guy I see in the school pickup line - its surreal. What an awesome career.
Great recap of an MLB and Rockies legend.
Hitting over .500 in a month (like Helton did in May) is absurd!
Thank you! Todd deserved the spotlight he was a beast 🔥
Great video! I had the honor of playing with Helton. He was the man.
Now I'm curious if you were a Rockie? 🤔
@@dom37262 yes I was.
@thewrp3754 what years and what position? I want to guess. Lol. Been a Rox fan since Day 1. Let's see if I can guess. Lol
I’d love to see ones made on Billy Wagner, Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer, Derek Jeter, Stan Musial, and of course, Ted Willians
I know he has multiple Jeter videos. Are you looking for "Insane Prime" videos only?
@@HamsterK37Okay, it might seem like I only want those types of vids, but in reality, they’re just requests…
@@LiterallyDitcher Billy Wagner deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, when you look at the top closers of all time, everyone is either in the Hall of Fame, not eligible yet, or Billy Wagner. It's really a shame.
If you watched him play, you'd know in ur heart is a hall of fame talent .
17 for life! So happy that he and Larry Walker are in the HOF. It can be disheartening to say the least to be a Rockies fan, but not when they were playing.
Helton's 2000 season was the biggest MVP snub of all time.
One of the greatest offensive seasons ever
Thank you for posting this video and doing all this research. I've been looking on facebook at all the Helton haters who say he doesn't belong in Cooperstown. I'm going to direct them to watch your video so they can clearly see and understand that he is indeed HOF worthy. Thanks!
I appreciate that! He deserved to have a video of this nature made to show that he is Hall of Fame worthy. It's crazy how many people cite the Coors Field Effect, yet his road OPS was better than several all-time greats.
Thanks for making this. Todd is on Mt Rushmore in Denver.
Doesn't the baseball Hall of Fame care about character. This man has a heart of gold
HOF heart!
Helton is a top 5 1b of all time. He was insanely well rounded. His numbers back this up.
That's way cool! Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed 😎
You’re gonna be big someday. My favorite channel w less than 20k subs. And for sure in my top 10 on TH-cam.
Thank you for the kind words! Little by little we'll keep growing the channel together 😎
I was waiting for that “took his game to the next level!” line. Love the videos
Haha it's a must for these INSANE Prime vids! 😂 Glad to hear you're enjoying the content means a lot to have the support 🙌🏼
Best underrated hitter of all time ⚾️
so good to see todd helton on my feed!! watching the Rockies in the 00s was so fun
He deserved the spotlight! Truly a legend of the game
It’s a crime he finished 5th in MVP in 2000. Idek how Jeff Kent was top 3 that year
💯
Great video bro, I'm a rockies fan and he definitely deserves to be in the HOF
Thank you! Fingers crossed Tuesday he gets the HOF call ☎
So happy he got in for 2024. Well deserved
VFL. GBO. Totally deserving of the hof. Congrats Todd Helton
Get this man in the hall of fame now
Awesome video. A favorite for sure. Watched him and HOF Larry Walker dozens of games '98-'02. The best!
Could you please do Bob Gipson
Finally got to watch the video! Another job well done sir, can't wait for the BO Train!!! Keep up the stellar work buddy!
Thank you Chris! I appreciate that 😎
Awesome video; Helton has always been my favorite player. Thank you for the great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed! 🙌🏼
I love your channel so much! Keep up the great work brother!
Thank you for such a kind comment! I'm blessed to have such a great community who loves baseball as much as I do ⚾ Your support goes a long way so I greatly appreciate it!
I love your videos. The amount of detail you add is insane! Great work
Thank you Chris, that really means a lot to hear! I put a lot of time in because it's what I truly enjoy doing, so I'm glad that you think so
Finally Todd Heltonnn. I've been using him with the Rockies paying MVP 05. And I've been in love with his career ever since
I love those forced Game 163 situations. Awesome video, Cam!
Me too. Thank you Hatbilly!
Hell yeah! Lets go Todd!
Yes! Thanks Cam!
Thank you for the suggestion and for watching the vid! 😎
Would you mind doing a video on every MLB Player who ever lived, just in case you missed someone? They were so underrated, and had such good Stats compared to 'the greats'... they all had OPS, OPS+, WAR equal to comparable Players of their Generation, and all played for many Teams in MLB. Some had a 'Prime', others not so much.
I'm glad Helton is in the Hall of Fame he deserve it
Agreed! His HOF speech was just as legendary as his career
@@Cam23 Yeah his speech is very touching
My favorite player and I’m pretty sure the only one I’ll ever see play his whole career for the Rockies (heck any team anymore). Cried when he made the Hall of Fame. Told he’d never get in and Lord knows it’s tough being a Colorado fan with the Mickey Mouse ownership. But Todd was and always has been the rock.
Awesome mate.
Please do a prime Jose Cruz vid he’s got over 2000 hits and top 5 mvp multiple times it would mean so much! He’s so underrated!
I'm a Diamondbacks fan and Todd Helton is my all time favorite 1st Baseman. He was the man
Holding Coors Field against a guy has got to be one of the dumbest things that hall of fame voters do, and they do a lot of dumb things. They did it with Larry Walker and they're doing it now with Todd Helton. No other home ballpark gets counted against a player in the same way, and there have been some very weird ballparks over the long history of baseball. If Todd Helton gets into Cooperstown this year (like he should) and Joe Mauer does as well (like I hope), we'll see two single-team lifers inducted in the same class, which I think is special. Rockies fans deserve to see Helton in Cooperstown. I would also say that I greatly appreciate you including captions on your videos, not a lot of small TH-camrs do it and it means a lot to those of us who rely on captions to fully enjoy audiovisual content.
I agree! Having made a vid on both Walker and Helton, I can say with 100% certainty that the whole Coors Field Effect is blown totally out of proportion. If it was such an advantage how come there's not 50 Todd Heltons walking around? It's crazy!
I write a script for these videos (as most creators typically do) so it surprises me they wouldn't copy and paste it into subtitles as it takes a second to do. Thank you for sharing that it reaffirms that what I'm doing is being utilized by the audience of these videos!
Yes both guys should have been 1st ballot. Helton and walker were all time players. Who protected who in the lineup ? I imagine walker hit 3rd and Helton 4th?
@@Cam23 Well, he finally made it. Took long enough. And Joe Mauer, too. Brought tears to my eyes.
Great job, as always! I'd love to see a video on a reliever, like Mariano Rivera.
Helton's swing was both compact and powerful. It was beautiful to look at. He didn't receive too much national attention due to the fact that he played his entire career in Colorado, a small market franchise. His stats were often questioned due to the Coors Field effect. But, if you know anything about hitting, you know he could hit well anywhere.
Well said! Helton certainly could hit with the best of them
I grew up going to Rockies games when on family vacation. Number 17 means as much to Rockies fans as I've ever seen any player mean to a fan base
Fire vid cam🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you Sergio! 🔥
I remember when Galarraga was allowed to depart to Atlanta as an FA. Rockies’ fans like me were appalled, but Helton assuaged those fears. 💜
Must be an English major? Perfect grammar due to a little known portion of the rules governing use of "a/an"...or maybe just attended private school and actually enjoyed the academics? Either way, well done along with proper use of "assuage" which is surely my favorite word with "ass" in it. Hahahaha. At any rate, there's no way you have merely a public school US education like mine...
Absolute stud
You should give Aramis Ramirez or Derek Lee. Either would be good. Their primes were pretty special. From Miami to Chicago, Derek Lee was a very good pure hitter. A-Ram took a minute to find his way, but once he found his power stroke. He put up some truly great numbers. If one Albert Pujols wasn't being a God damn instant legend in St. Louis, A-Ram would have rightfully been the power king of the Central for a few years. Hell, he gave Albert a good run for a few years there.
Great Video! FYI check out MLB Network's top ten players at each position who are not in the Hall of Fame. There was no criteria for the list other than a player couldn't be included if his five years of eligibility haven't past yet.I believe they have only did this for first baseman so far.I thought about bringing this to your attention due to Helton being a first baseman. Thanks again always enjoy your content.
Thanks for the heads up Joe! I'll make sure to check that out. As always, I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel 🙌🏼
Thanks! :)
I appreciate the suggestion!
I don’t care what anybody says Todd Helton belongs in the HOF
He deserved at least two more gold gloves, as well. And he should have won MVP. Forever underrated and underwatched just for being a Rockie. PS speaking of underrated and overlooked, Darin Erstad would a fun video.
Can we get some love for Paul Molitor? But great work for putting respect on Helton's name.
I made a comment about adrian beltre already but I still think he’s worth talking about, especially with him most likely being inducted into the hall of fame soon
He snuck his way into the offensive leaderboards all time for 3B, it's pretty crazy to see where he stacks up against the greats, he's top 5 in almost every major category. He should be a slam dunk Hall of Famer, but for some reason he just never got a lot of fan fare, not as much as he should have at least.
keeping with the trend here, can you please do a video on the prime of Charlie Blackmon. Pretty please
I enjoy your videos about the players prime. If you don't already have one please do one about Fred McGriff.
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! Crime Dog would be a fun video
@@Cam23 thank you for considering it bro.
@13:20 - This proves that Todd was a great hitter in his prime wherever he played. Todd also had a .313 AVG on the road from 2000-2004.
What a Legend.
While Todd did reach 40+ hrs a few times, he was best known for his outstanding defense and extra base hits. I'm so glad he was elected to the HoF.
Tom Seaver's prime is pretty insane. His 71 season might be the best Cy runner up year ever
I'd love to see someone talk about Lou Gehrig
Pretty cool that this guy is from the same area I’m from.
3:34 that's konerlo right? Have you made a video of him? That would be nice
Could you do about video about Jason Kendall? Please and thank you.
The only good guy on the pirates for years
Please do Roy Halladay
Do George Brett next please!
FANTASTIC stuff
Can you please please do a video on Mike Mussina
So happy he made the HOF. Being on bad teams should not discredit how great a player is. Once Walker made it i feel like Helton HAD to make it
Players like Indian Bob Johnson and Ernie Banks spending the vast majority of their careers on bad teams should be a measure of just how great they were; on good teams they’d have seen a LOT more hittable pitches over the course of a year.
Do Billy Wagner one of the best closing pitchers of all time and should be in the HOF and since Todd Helton a in now you can use your effect
6:45 After Tuesday, I hope we can all say we just watched one HOF hit it to another HOF
If not, then we got ourselves a problem!
@Cam23 ever consider a video on Lance Parrish? He is a catcher seemingly lost to time, despite pretty great numbers. Compare his offensive numbers to Gary Carter.
@@HamsterK37 I haven't yet but I appreciate the suggestion! There's so many overlooked players that I've been accumulating but my main obstacle is finding enough footage for them in order to make a video of this nature
.372 batting average in the year 2000 also during a Dodgers game Todd Helton shaved his beard four different ways to were he was finally clean shaven and collected 2 hits in that game!
When you have to keep putting up black and white photos of old timers to compare to your subject of the video, you know they had a good career.
I agree!
Great ballplayer!
Amen!
A Tim Wakefield video would be awesome. R.I.P. sir
You done one on ED, Eric the Red?
Best rockies player ever
Did you somehow forget Larry Walker existed?
Would love a greg Maddox vid
He Is A Hall Of Famer For Sure 💪

Be the first channel to do paul konerko
Absolute hall of famer. I compare him to like a Chuck Klein or Hank Greenberg of my generation
I want to see an Ivan Rodriguez video
I would love to see one on Chase Utley!
You ever think about doing a video on pete rose
he was special
He should be in the hof.
so is hank aaron only not on that list because he played the last two seasons with Milwaukee, because it seems like he played more than 2k with one team. Just trying to understand the stat.
Correct. It was a stat from stathead (baseball reference) and it listed all players to play 2,000+ games with only one team. Had he played 2,000 games only with the Braves, he would be on the list. There are a handful of players that are quote "disqualified" due to moving teams very late in their careers
that pun was totally intended
Yes it was 😂
This guy was damn good, Colorado had some sluggers man! He could bat 300 in his sleep!
Teddy Williams please
Can we get George Brett yet? Or Ozzie?
We need a Nick Swisher video
