2:49 3 ways to choose Camino: 1. Time
6:21 2. Reason of Camino
9:50 3. Shape
My first was the Frances only because of influence of movie and my Spanish heritage. My second was the Portuguese internal it really changed my attitude because, I found it personally culturally rewarding. After finishing I drove to Lourdes to see Notre Dame and returned to San Sebastian/ Donostia and feel in love with the Basque countryside. 2022 I returned walked Primitivo, Camino del Norte and waled to Muxia via Fisterra. So far the Norte for me has offered everything { mountains, sea, solitude, rain, cold, wind and a greater cross-section of Spain because of the distance} in a Camino de Santiago. I hope that haven't bored you with my perspective, thank you and wish you both a Buen Camino. 🙏
brings back memories , thanks
thanks a lot salvatore! its a joy to listen to a fellow pilgrim! Every story matters and gives other some ideas or lessons! un abraccio
Dear Erika and Ricky, My first Camino was last year in May from Tui. This year in September I will walk from Lugo to Santiago and from Santiago to Fisterre. No regrets.... I follow you closely. This year I bring your journal. I am 61 and have some wight restrictions, so... Yes, I use transportation from my luggage. Most profound experience. I walk alone... but you are never alone in the El Camino!
Silvia! Thanks for sharing your story, it is a gift to all of us! BTW, If you liked the journal, please leave us a review on the Amazon, it would mean a lot for us 🙏🥰☺️
Safe travels. Buen camino!
What a great video, truly very honest but great information.
Glad you enjoyed it! We hope that we could show a bit of who we are
thank you
more then welcome! when is your Camino?
Great video Erica and Ricky! 😊
You're the best! Thanks for being here 😊
Years ago, I read Shirley MacLaine's book on doing the Camino . And I have been fascinated by the Caminos since then. Shirley described a very difficult and hard time and many, many nights just camping out wherever she was when night fell. Or getting lost because the Camino was not well marked. The changes between then and now are absolutely fantastic. Spain and her people have developed the Caminos and provided a beautiful set of caminos and they allowed the establishment of different businesses to provide overnight resting and food places, protection forces, transport service, medical help, grocery stores, hiking equipment stores. And involved the church to issue the pilgrim passport and the businesses to provide stamps to prove that you were there and utilized those businesses. And they do not require that you can only do the Camino if it is done for religious reasons. Spain has opened the ways for all to use as long as everyone follows the rules. It's totally Awesome ....... anyone can walk for any reason and everyone is treated fairly and the same. It is a beautiful place and all are recieved the same.
So true! Nowadays it’s open to all which is unique and worth to highlight!!!
Love you guys 💗 sooo much information from your experiences…I did the Geneva Way last year and found that difficult, the scenery was very beautiful from other Camino’s I have walked…there is not a lot of conversation regarding Via Podiensis/GR 65, through France, this is the most beautiful for me, outstanding beauty, history, food….looking forward to De Norte and the amazing ocean views…🇦🇺
Wonderful! When are you walking del Norte?
I like your videos - you helped me a lot last year to prepare for my first camino🚶🏼, thank you / muchas gracias 🙂

Awesome video Pilgrims! Ultreia!! 💚👣💪🏻
Curiosity- soo many people liked this video, why?
@@caminotellersReal solid advice as always 💚👣🙏🏻
I love it. I love your sharing. Funny, instructive and insightful.
My first Camino was Frances from Leon. I would call it: the classic stretch. I will never forget my sensations. I felt like I was doing something utterly new and crucial when it comes to my life journey. And that became true with time. My first albergue was La Casa de Jesus in Villar de Mazarife. An unique shelter due to its vibes. Its walls were almost utterly covered with great sentences, pilgrims expressions and so on. I remember one written by an Italian pilgrim. It was like: Please, do not get up before 7:00am. It is not a job. And someone replied: but we like walking under the stars. Amazing Camino Spirit 😃
Thank you for what you are doing. 👋
We know this albergue sooo well, great Camino graffiti and good food too! Thanks for your feedback ❤️🥰🥰
How did you choose your Camino? Share your story
Guys,I love you ❤..🙏
🥰
One of the routes through Germany comes through Frankfurt and 2 of the churches here are stops on the way, so had learned about the Camino when doing research for our tours in 2008.
When I was going to turn 60 in 2015, decided it was time to do something epic, so did the Camino Frances from Pamplona. Now, I am addicted. Camino #6 starts in 2 weeks. Starting in Porto for the 2nd time, but doing much of the central route.
Thanks again for a great video.
Jo! We hope you share some photos with us! Let us know how is the Camino Portuguese this year and is there any must seen places on the way, big hugs
@@caminotellersI will do so of course. There will be daily videos on my other channel, "Camino for Everyone" that I created specifically for senior women.
Great video with many helpful ideas for first timers like me! I'm not sure whether Erica took the regular Camino Portugués or the Coastal Portugués. I imagine the coastal Portugués route has great views like the Camino del Norte, and the coastal Portugués is much easier in terms of elevation and support along the way. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Hi! thanks a lot for your kind words! I did the central route and it was barely easy. The costal is also a not demanding path... compared to Camino del Norte or Camino Primitivo. However don't think it was easy to walk 260km, as I had my difficult moments, hugs
Hi guys, great video, last summer I did my first Camino and it was Camino Frances. I am glad I choose it and wouldnt change it. I knew I wont be able to do Camino in next few years again so for the first time I wanted to do the whole 800 km. So I dedicated everything to that, time off work, physical preparation , gear, everything. I didnt expected anything really, just to fulfill my vow to God, but I got so much and it was experience of a lifetime and these 30 days were in fact a lifetime life in miniature because you go through different stages on that path!
amazing , glad you enjoyed it
congrats Tomislav! We remeber you so well, glad you had a great time, and glad you can share it with us...

Frances!
Yupiiiii
Arriving in France 22nd April to walk my first camino 😊
Still trying to work out what shoes I’m wearing 🤦♀️🙈🤷♀️👣👣👣
Love you’re videos 🙏🏻
Which shoes are you thinking about?
I’ve got Altra lone peak 7 trail runners. Maybe should have went up a size. Had them on today for 14 mile walk and they were good 👍🏻 I
after doing 8 so far I think your fitness level will help you make your choice , like Ricky said do some walking at home before you leave ,, also very important is the care of your feet, I've seen many pilgrims not able to finish their first week because of injuries . Anyway , slow down , remember it's an adventure , just go with no expectations and have fun , meet interesting people (like Erica and Ricky) . like Erica said her first camino was from Porto (really good choice If you have the time) .
Don't pack too much stuff and bring your smile ,, 🤪
No smile no Camino ;)
For me, it will be the Portugues Coastal with spiritual variant. If I'm very fit, I'll do the Primitivo. It's just the right length (I don't have 30+ days) and based on vlogs I've seen, I wouldn't like the last 200 m of the Frances because it's become too crowded and commercial. If I only had 1 week, I'd do the Portugues from Tui or the Ingles. I'm still your "2027 futuristic" pilgrim. Hope I'm able to make it by then! Meanwhile, I'll keep hiking in my country. Your vids are very informative and entertaining.
Thanks a million Kitty! By 2027 many things might change, maybe even some new Camino will open… every year it’s a surprise! The popularity of the Tui - Santiago hit sky high last year…
@@caminotellers wow, thnx for the info abt Tui. Good to know. I have since learned that if I have only 1 week to do it, I can start from Lugo (Primitivo route) or Sanabres (VDLP). I've seen vids from "Ellie and Senci" who did the Norte last year. The part where they joined the Frances route - it was a bit too chaotic & commercial for my tastes. But oh well, we'll see. Take care & safe travels!
For me it is easy to choose, because I only have time enough for the Camino Portugues. Looking forward to be there in 2026❤
A great choice, keep us informed about your preps!
Hi! what about the camino primitivo?
It’s a great Camino, nature 90%! We will be there in 17days making live streams of how it really is, join the streams!
@Erica; I'm starting in Porto on the 15th of april. Did you walk the coastal route or the central route?
Hello ☺️ it was the central route, which one are you doing?
I wonder if the Camino Norte was harder because of the number of kilometers you walked daily? Or was it hard because of intense elevation gain? I hope to have at least 2 months so I'll be in no hurry. I also live at 7500 feet in the high desert of New Mexico, USA and am fairly used to strenuous hiking. However, I was imagining that I wouldn't walk more than 10 miles a day. Also, what season did you hike the Norte? I am thinking September and October. Thank you!
I walked in June- July! October will be rainy and chilly if you don’t mind colder periods of the year
@@caminotellers Thanks for the response! I'm not a fan of walking in the rain so am looking for a trail and season that is less wet - other than the ocean! And was the difficulty because of the elevation gain, rocky trail, all of the above? I'm only at the beginning of my research so will get a book on the topic soon! I'm also realizing that the Camino in general may not be for me because I wanted a journey that was free from my phone and making reservations and such. I naively thought I could just show up and find places to stay.
Life is a camino, choose or not
