    If I ever find myself in a situation where lethal force is necessary, morally justifiable, and legally justifiable, things have gone very wrong. If I am pointing a gun at a human being on purpose with my finger on the trigger, things have gone very very very very wrong. I never want that to happen. And I don't think it ever will. But if I'm wrong I want to survive.
    I think this is the right attitude to hold towards firearms in general and daily carry specifically. I wish more people in the US gun community held this attitude. I feel like that's an important part of the takeaway here? Excellent video either way.

      That's a drum I end up banging on whenever I end up talking with THOSE types of gun people. If you don't have the willingness to do what you need to do to be responsible, you shouldn't take on that responsibility. And that's one reason why I don't currently own any guns.

    • @DonyaLane
      @DonyaLane 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dedalus1749 , I was just gonna say the same thing! But I would add for @David Graves to always go with a knowledgeable, qualified teacher/friend. Learning all the basic safety protocols is where the fun begins, because that's what gets you over the fear. And that goes beyond just the firearms safety protocols (muzzle in safe direction, keeping finger off trigger, etc.). It pertains to things like not getting your thumb sliced off by a slide or singed off because it was in front of a cylinder, etc. Even Tacticool GF admitted to one of these kinds of injuries @00:36 (burned by a hot barrel). The injuries I've witnessed have had nothing to with getting shot, but can really ruin a fun day at the range!

    In addition to pepper spray (aerosol), it's good to have pepper gel (a stream that sticks to the target) as well. Pepper gel is good for indoor use, when aerosol would affect you as well. I have mine color-coded and carry them in different places.
    It's also good to have as a spare. I once dropped my pepper spray while under attack, and the outer (non-pressurized) case broke open, rendering it inoperable in the moment it was needed. I was able to free myself and run away regardless, but it was a reminder that "two is one, one is none".

    I agree with you about everything except appendix carry... with most other carry options, if you have an accidental or negligent discharge, you're more likely to hit the ground, a foot, a limb... all not great, but mostly survivable... When appendix carrying your gun is pointed at your vital organs at most if not all times. When drawing, people have a tendency to bend forward and look at the gun/holster pointing the weapon even further into their vitals (you're supposed to lean backwards while tilting your pelvis forwards). Most unwanted discharges happen while holstering and unholstering. So if that happens while appendix carrying, you're done. I would not recommend a novice to carry this way, and really it's not the best way safety wise for anyone imho. Personally, I prefer inside waist side carry harness, or shoulder harness.

    Comment for those (especially smaller stature folks) wondering what to carry, and they want something (very) small. Let's start from the smallest - currently there's only two palm size guns that are reliable and shootable (and relatively affordable) - NAA Guardian and Seecamp LWS, both in 32 ACP. Both of them come also in 380 ACP but then they are not shootable, having anything bigger than 32 in a tiny gun will be snappy. Both of them have 6+1 capacity, tho there are 10rd extendos for the Guardian. There's also the Beretta Tomcat, very slightly larger than them, also in 32 ACP, 7+1, but it is a bit more pricey. Note that even those two previous ones are not super cheap, having maximum concealability (alongwide reliability) can't really be cheap, but Beretta is even more expensive.
    A bit bigger than that, not palm but still pocket size, would be the Keltec P32, which has 7+1 capacity and 10rd extendos, and is cheaper than those first two; and Phoenix Arms in 25 ACP which has 9+1 capacity, and is I think maybe the cheapest semi-auto out there.
    Someone might be like wait but if those last two are pocket then Ruger LCP (and LCP max) in 380 would be too, and it's larger than those palm size ones so it shouldn't be snappy, nope, it's pretty snappy. Same goes for other 380s in that size, like the Bodyguard, P238, Kahr, etc. If you want a gun in 380 that is easily shootable you will have to go larger, AFAIK the smallest option that is shootable would be guns like the Bersa Thunder /Firestorm /TPR sub. And additional benefit there is that there's plus versions that have 15 instead of 8rd mags. But you are here outside of pocket size guns. Along with Bersa and basically the same size is the Ruger Security 380, which has 15rd mags. And same size as that is one of the cheapest guns out there - the Hi Point in 380, with 8rd capacity. Of course, if you don't care about the snappiness you can get some of those pocket 380 ones, or - this no-longer-pocket larger size is where subcompact 9mm guns come into play, so you can go for those, like the Shield (plus), P365, Hellcat, G3c, etc.
    I mentioned the LCP above, LCP 2 can be a pocket option if one wants to carry something in 22LR, and that one would be the smallest reliable semi-auto gun in which you can do that in. It has 10rd capacity. That and some small revolvers (like Ruger LCR) are the only reliable pocket options for 22LR, don't buy any other semi-auto pocket (especially palm) in 22LR, they are not reliable guns. Except maybe the Beretta Bobcat, but that's expensive. Even in terms of full size semi-autos it's not easy to find a reliable 22, especially a reasonable priced one, AFAIK basically the only one like that is the Taurus TX22. And if you want something full size that is stronger than 22LR but still very low recoil, there actually is such a thing - the M&P 22 magnum, very low recoil, 30rd (yes, thirty round) magazines.

    Can a gun shoot itself when it falls to the ground like it always hapens in movies? Also great video and, could you talk about other self defense skills you should have before you reach for a gun? like how to properly use pepper spray?

    • @TacticoolGirlfriend
      @TacticoolGirlfriend  4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Most trustworthy contemporary guns are drop-safe and rated to pretty stringent levels of testing for this. However, it is often possible on a lot of less-reliable and older guns to drop them and release the hammer upon impact.
      As for self-defense skills in general, I always advocate an easy thing to do is to have pepper spray handy, buy some practice canisters so that you know how to use it (these usually are specifically intended for training and just shoot water). I also generally advocate people at least have some level of practical competency around an empty-handed martial art, such as boxing.

      Usually OEM (aka stock) modern pistols are very safe as far as drops go. Modifications to firearms however when done improperly can lead to issues where the gun can discharge without prompt, this is rare and avoidable however as most companies of aftermarket parts will warn you very obviously that the modification is not to be done by anyone other than a gunsmith.

      I have heard that they don't pull up as well as the ads imply.
      I find a belly band placed below the waistline works great for me, I work in moderately slim fit scrubs at work. And im able to completely conceal a springfield hellcat, and the stretch of the scrubs allow me to reach and access pretty well.
      But if you are wearing jeans I would recommend suspenders and forgoing a belt. (also I recommend suspenders for any carry, or even without carrying. They just hold your pants up better in every way)

  • @marianneadele666
    @marianneadele666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Any advice on open carry, either with long guns or handguns, or will that be the subject of a new video? Not a gun owner but it would seem to make more sense to just store larger weapons in secure locations at home and only keep them in reserve for certain situations or periods of social upheaval.
    Also, what kind of situations would a leftist practicing concealed carry want to prepare for in the first place? The use of deadly force seems to be fraught with legal concerns in most areas (if you're not a swine with a license to avoid consequences) and in many scenarios non-lethal self-defense methods are more practical, such as with pepper spray or a taser in instances of assault. When is it appropriate to use deadly force, and how should you prepare yourself for that kind of situation?
    Finally, do knives (and possibly swords where legal) have any useful modern role in self-defense?

    • @verager2493

      @45Kimber1911A1 Fucking.
      True.
      This is the biggest complaint about NRA fanatics. Open carry just means they shoot/attack you first! It's a tool, not a fashion statement.

    • @TacticoolGirlfriend
      @TacticoolGirlfriend  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Open carry may be something best left off the plate for now as that's a very sticky, very subjective, and extremely limited capacity for carrying firearms in general. I won't typically advocate it for nearly any situation. Not saying there aren't situations where it may be useful, but those are so far and few in between, I just don't think I can generalize on it.
      As for conceal carrying, I think that regardless of your reasoning, the practice is the same all around - be prepared for an attacker in a number of capacities. This also might mean you can't get to your firearm if you're within grabbing distance of the attacker in the first place. Plan accordingly. Practice martial arts. Use pepper spray as a de-escalation and escape tool. "Tasers" that people describe as such are typically actually stun guns, which generally don't do much more than piss someone off. A real taser would be like the ones issued to police that can at least temporarily incapacitate a person dead in their tracks, but are not practical or legal for a lot of civilians to own.
      As for legal justification for deadly force - that entirely depends on your local laws. At the very least, it's typically defensible if it can be reasonably argued that your life was in immediate jeopardy if you didn't have any other alternative (this includes fleeing).
      Lastly, for bladed weapons - I strongly discourage this. In knife fights, you are just as likely to have your knife used against you as you are to be successful in using it against the assailant. They are gruesome, messy, and generally only used effectively by people attacking by surprise in the first place. Some more focus on every-day common sense, situational awareness, and basic martial arts skills would likely serve you much better.

    • @jasoncrowell8863
      @jasoncrowell8863 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as self-defense, I don't like knives. I *love* blunt weapons, batons, staffs etc if you do decide to carry something like that, they can be underestimated, improvised, have a good reach...

    • @mustangkrillin
      @mustangkrillin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sometimes open carry, but I also live in a semi rural town where it's legal and socially acceptable to do so. I'm an open carry advocate in the legal sense but I HIGHLY recommend concealed carry over open carry whenever possible. If you do open carry, I personally recommend using a retention holster and and an extremely high level of situational awareness.

    I know I'm commenting a lot, it is very important to me that I tell this story. I was robbed at gun point and my dad was also in a similar situation. In a self defence situation your attacker has there gun drawn first and you have to reach for yours. If you draw your weapon first it's not self defense your the attacker. In self defense situation it is very unlikely you will be able to reach for your weapon. If you reach you will get shot in the head, no one is that fast. I don't care how much training you have if you are attacked it will take you a very very long time to comprehend what is happening to you. I was robbed at gun point my dad was robbed at gun point, it will take you for ever to understand what is happening to you. The final point I'll make is the idea of killing someone will always make you hesitate. The idea of killing someone will always make you hesitate.
