Technicaly, both Postal 2 and Undertale are kinda similar in story and tone: in both games main characters find themselves in situations that involve others wanting to harm or even kill you. In both games enemies that trying to kill main character are someone who presented as a lomedic parody or a joke. In both you have to deal with these situations by either killing them or finding a solution to get out of said situation without doing any harm (for Dude it's usually hust run away and do things by the law). In both games inhabitants are presented as a comedic characters. Only thing different is that Undertale have a serrious main plot that it take serious while Postal 2 plot is just Dude getting his stuff done. Also, that thumbnail goes hard.

This has nothing to do with the video but the thumbnail just gave me the idea of a sitcom series where Postal Dude and Frisk are living together in some apartment in Paradise and every episode is just a child and a grown man bickering over mundane shit, like where to put the bodies, or if genocide over an entire species can be justified as self-defense.

I haven't watched the video, but another weird connection between the postal series and Undertale is how there is a presence that is (potentially) affecting or controlling the player with whatever the "demon" is in postal 1 and chara in undertale both being entities that control the player (with chara only doing that after the genocide ending which is quite the coincidence)

i have nothing to add besides saying its a great video, so have this lil thing that has been on my mind for a long while:
When you said about the song(undyne ost and mettaton power of neo similarity), you reminded me of the fact i always thought that Megalovania wasn't Sans theme, but *our* theme. since the songs play when someone starts a battle, and most of the time, the opponent are the ones doing that to us, unlike in the sans battle, where WE are the ones starting it.
We are the megalomaniac, not sans.(Which would be a nice nod to another song related to sans in the game files, "the song that might play when you fight sans", which is a more chill version/elevator version of megalovania, but the key point in here is that the name of the song is saying YOU are the one fighting sans, starting the battle, which pushes he idea that Megalovania is our theme.)

There's still loads of evidence for Chara only accepting their role in Genocide due to you doing it in the first place, even disregarding narrachara entirely and just using their end of run dialogue. The following is a direct, continuous quote from everyone's first genocide.
“Your power awakened me from death. // My “human soul.” // My “determination.” // They were not mine, but yours. // At first, I was so confused. // Our plan [Asriel] had failed, hadn't it? // Why was I brought back to life? // ... // You. // With your guidance. [sic] // I realised the purpose of my reincarnation. [sic] // Power. // Together, we eradicated the enemy and became strong.”
Chara only adopts the “murder everyone” schtick because they believed that the only possible reason for them to have been ressurrected in the first place was to complete your work together. To “eradicate the enemy.”
Then, when you repeat genocide, Chara actively looks down on you. You are an existance so alien to them that they need to be in direct ownership of your SOUL to even begin to understand the meaning of your actions.
“You and I are not the same, are we? // This SOUL resonates with a strange feeling. // There is a reason you continue to recreate this world. // There is a reason you continue to destroy it. // You. // You are wracked with a perverted sentimentality. // Hmm. // I cannot understand these feelings any more.”
My personal interpretation is that they only celebrated the end result of the genocide run because they believed that it had to serve a greater purpose. They are an ordinary human being who was just returned from death in the name of destroying everything that they have ever known and loved, so they can only possibly accept it by believing that it is done in the name of a greater purpose. Some sort of act of God or masterful plot *_must_* underly this to them; it can't be about *_killing,_* it has to be about something gained *_by killing._* HP. AT. DF. GOLD. EXP. LV. They go out of their way to justify your actions because they don't have the emotional and mental faculty necessary to assume that you would do such a horrible thing for absolutely nothing in exchange. Not because they're just a kid, or because they're a good person, but because in the face of that cosmic scale of indifference, no person can reasonably comprehend it. We become their very own exemplar for cosmic horror.

I got an actual loremaster in the comments, that means I finally hit the big time. Yeah, I’m not gonna act like an expert at all, what specifically bugged me was that some people get really uppity about Chara’s association with the genocide route when it’s clear there’s meant to be a parallel, especially since Flowey recognizes you as them once you clear the Ruins. I don’t particularly have much interest in getting deep into the minutiae of this kind of thing, it just specifically bothers me when people use loose pieces of evidence to make a point. It’s supposed to be pretty cut and dry that Chara is taking over during the end of the route (which doesn’t excuse you of your actions, mind you. The player still names Chara, they’re still a part of you.)
      Tl;dr yeah probably lol

There are a lot of headcanons floating around about this game simply because it is a very good game that is aware of how it is written for the entire experience and levereges the utmost engagement from it. I always respect an opinion spoken from a mindset that recognises where there is a hole in a plot or a hole in the fulfillment of a theme more than I will one that is sure of being right because the former kind of person will openly explore multiple narrative and thematic interpretations of the same events.
The exact example that you used, where Flowey recognises you, is incredibly interesting to read the other way; as if Flowey is making a mistake because he's desperate to find something that makes his life worthwhile. That he is confusing the reality of a murderer with his childhood friend because if he's been made into a “monster,” then why not them?
Meanwhile, though, the parallels between Flowey and Frisk become dyed in a new light if you instead replace Frisk's will with Chara and put faith in Flowey's claims because then you have a tale of two siblings growing up and actualising their lives through a deliciously deadly compact, only for one to outgrow the other after a freak accident left their faculty for empathy numb. It's a painful, compelling story that is worth telling in and of itself. Both perspectives aren't simply valid, but can coexist as alternatives to each other.
I believe that one of UnderTale's greatest strengths is its use of ambiguity in its writing. You hear “show, don't tell” often in discussions of how to express game mechanic tutorials and narrative elements to your audience, but to instead choose to “don't show, don't tell” can invite all host of mediums for newfound appreciation of your art. *_Theories._*
If there were a right way to appreciate that deliberate choice in UnderTale's writing, then I dare say that it would be recognising that ambiguity in its whole like you do. Your argument wasn't worded so elegantly in the video, since it was admittedly a bit of a rant and putting more time into writing that part of the script may not have appealed to you, but I have a sincere respect for people that consume media skeptically and retain a grounded perspective, even while actively trying to learn more.

Asgore could have visited six people at their deathbeds instead of killing six people, or if it has to be killing either asking people if they wanted to be killed by him on their deathbed and asking their families and doctors as well if its ok, or assassinating people if the former isn't an option.

21:49 Btw, in my previous comment I mentioned that this video convinced me to play Ribbit. Well, since then, I finished Ribbit & (Spoilers for those reading the comments.)
+new game plus. (I've yet to play geno though), and I just got to say, *_please_* make the Ribbit video. I can't really find any video essays (the only one I could find lacks any voice-over. Didn't even bother with text to speech so I can't really listen to it while doing other stuff,) and I feel like I need a video to like, help explain/process what I played. (I already got a lot, and the secret files helped explain some things + talking with some folks on ACDs, but I feel this craving for Ribbit analysis that can't really be filled. The Manos: The Hands of Fate fight at least gave me the idea to compare that fight with the photoshop Flowey fight, and the final boss fights of Mother 3 and Omori as some sort of "final boss fights that make you feel things" video or something.)

I have heard someone mention that the theme during the boss fights is yours during genocide route. 0:
The genocide route does stuff like the glad dummy to make you feel guilty, to make you stop. Attacking the monsterkid, everything was to make your heart tingle. Though, something that some people never talk about that I've seen is the dialogue that comes when Sans beats you if you surrender. People hype up the meme half of "GET DUNKED ON", but the part the follows afterwards, that single little hope he has. "If you're really my friend, you won't come back."
Dang that postal existential crisis that turns you into Flowey 2.0 was too real. But it feels natural I guess; there isn't a point in remaining good.....

A trans woman who plays Postal 2 and Roblox, flirts with women she calls “mom”, and has a thing for getting tied up? Gee, you’re really hitting all the stereotypes here, aren’t you? Reminds me of myself circa 5 minutes ago…
Jokes aside, I loved the video! I think your analysis of Undertale is an interesting take that honestly makes quite a lot of sense, especially your view of Sans’ character, and the Postal 2 analysis is wonderful - it really captures the core essence of the game, how it comments on violence in video games without really making much of a direct statement. It turns the tables on you - in a normal FPS, the game forces violence upon you, but here you’re forcing violence upon it. While it does become violent, while it does oppose you at every step, true pacifists would - and, indeed, have - beat the game without killing a single person. It is quite literally as violent as you are, and when it comes to a game like this, all of us eventually turn violent.
Regarding the Chuck Heston reference in Postal 2, I’m not a 40-something year old (sad, I know), but I can offer some insight. Mister Heston was the actor who played the main character in the original version of The Planet of the Apes (and a ton of other movies) hence the “you damn dirty apes” portion of the line, but he was also a civil rights and gun control advocate turned Ronald Reagan campaigner who became the literal President of the NRA and was obsessed with gun rights, hence both the whole “tax rebate” part and the fact that it’s said when you kill someone - this is also why the Hestonworld difficulty gives everyone guns. It’s a funny joke if you actually know the context, like most people playing Postal 2 when it released probably would.
Another joke in the game is way more relevant to when the game came out - the package exploding is actually a rather hamfisted reference to the 2001 anthrax attacks, in which one of the envelopes had a fake school address for its RSVP, and if you look closely you can see that the Dude’s package has a blatantly fake address obviously made by the terrorists. The contents of the letter inside included “Death to America”, “Death to Israel”, and “Allah is great”, so it definitely makes sense why they’d make the terrorists in-game send it… except, once the investigation into them was finished a few years after Postal 2 came out, it turned out it was probably just some psychotic American scientist who was either incredibly mentally ill or wanted research into an anthrax vaccine to start up again.
Anyways, apologies for the infodump and all. I just really like Postal 2.

You beg for emo boy serial killers to DM you and that's fine, but you imply you want to get tied up ONE time...
But genuinely, thank you. It means the world that I'm both understandable and also correct. Genuinely, the rush of someone taking the time out of their day to tell you how your art spoke to them never goes away. I genuinely try and read and respond to everyone, even the random kids that friend request me on Discord (Why are they always teenagers where are the twice my age ex-forum bitches in my friend requests) because it means so much to me. I don't care if that's generic TH-camr sentences. I mean it, damn it! Neither of these games I'd consider like, top 10 contenders, but it was nice to air out all my thoughts. Every time a friend mentions Undertale now, I genuinely can just go "i talk about this in my video" and I'm done. I'm free. Now I have to do that for every video game I ever play, and I can sleep easy at night.
Also I don't want to actually get tied up. I'm not explaining my taste further. At least treat me to dinner first!

@@Gabri_Lovecraft A response like this means the world to me! I like to give at least some semblance of feedback on works that I enjoy since I know a lot of artists appreciate hearing what others think about their art. I'm really glad to know that you enjoyed seeing my feedback, even if it was brief and not particularly in-depth. I really hope that you can continue making videos like these. It's always nice to get a glimpse of others' perspectives, even on things I'm already more than familiar with.
