Paul Leonard defeats Mike O’hearn at the 1995 California State Powerlifting Championships with 705

  • On April 22, 1995, I deadlifted 705 on my third attempt of the USPF California State Powerlifting Championships to beat Mike O’hearn in the 275lb Open class. I placed second behind my friend Steve Dennison who can be seen talking to Bob Packer following my pull. I was 27 years old, worked 50 hours per week, and had begun training at the Uptown Gym in Whittier with Gary Hogan and Mike Morgan. Although I continued to compete in Powerlifitng and Strongman Contests in California until 2007, I never got the chance to compete against Mike again. I am so glad I made my only chance count.
    Check out the story behind my lifting that day at Neckberg. Com where I am published currently. neckberg.com/h....

    • @PLeonard71
      @PLeonard71  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When I train, I train to build the most muscle I can build. I am amazed at the sumo pullers today because I have never been able to sumo over 575 when I applied the Westside barbell, train your opposite stance in about 2007. Still, the biggest strongest humans walking the planet- today’s Pro Strongman, all conventionally deadlift.

      Kary, I think everyone agrees. Natty or not Mike is impressive. But, it is just like a bald handsome man who insists that his toupe is real. It starts to insult the intelligence of the onlooker. The man with the toupe is still handsome but...

      Hey Killer, check out www.openpowerlifting.org where Paul Leonard set the Arizona Raw deadlift record at over 600 pounds at 50 years old. Paul has totaled over 2,000 pounds and your hero never did more than 1,807. Paul is still stronger than mike today. But, I can't argue if you think Mike "looks better." I support your opinion and lifestyle.
