Nice of you to put together this Obit of these fine gentlemen..I could not think of a better cast of actors, they really made their characters come to life in this epic action, war, thriller...
THE inspiration for me to become a paratrooper. My 11-year-old self locked onto those maroon berets and never let go. Truly love this (err...less than perfect) film. Oddly enough, it changed my life. Yaneverknow...
Thank you for your service sir. I too am a vet. All I ever did of mention was being member of honor guard worlds largest air force base. NICE and safe. Sad though too many funerals in 1974
i wanted to be a para after watching this and the 80s documentary "the paras" but i wasnt hard/fit enough and i went for the money in the city in the end. i became a millionaire but i often regret not being a para
My parents took me to see this in the cinema.. I was 10 years old. A pretty traumatising and confusing plot at the time! I appreciate it more 40+ years later.
That is my favorite movie and best song by Joan Armatrading. I still loving it the most. I could saying which is the unforgetable movie in the rest of my life. P.S. That is really story and happened on 1967.
Grande film! Grandi attori specializzati in azioni all'ultimo respiro! Sempre avuto grande partecipazione per il personaggio di Richard Harris, grande stratega, sempre dalla parte dei buoni e dal grande cuore! Epica la scena finale: 'vieni parliamo di tuo padre'!.
I love how trailers back then used to give you the entire plot of the damn film in one bite, and the concept of 'spoilers' never entered anyone's head. Hardly need to watch it now.
Amen to that brother. I hate it when these adolescents today think nothing of giving the end of the movie away. It's the same way with books. "Back in my day" it was almost a criminal offense to give away the endings to books and movies. Today young people have no values or respect. Perfect example is those audio terrorists in those "boomer cars". Social predators right there next to rapists and child molesters. This is why so many kids on college campuses support Palestinian terrorists and Jew haters. We've gone from the Greatest Generation to the generation of degenerates.
@@therespectedlex9794 Exactly how am I "exaggerating" Lex? You mean when it comes to when we used to have character and values? Or the audio terrorists and Jew haters. The first representing the "New Rude" and the latter the "Old Rude". Just finished reading an article about looting and a WaPo screed promoting looting. Do you think this RUDE looting and burning down people's businesses is simply "spreading the wealth" and getting back at those evil capitalist Circle K store owners, managers and employees?
Come to think of it,this movie maybe the first to show the Uzi sub-machinegun in cinema action. The 1980s showed the uzi in films(like "The Terminator")and if this movie was '78,than it's the very 1st.
@Stephen Douglas The film Raid On Entebbe came out in early 1977 and was the very first film to feature the UZI having been filmed in late 1976 and premiered on US TV on NBC in January 1977
@kazimann Well said. Everything from the inception of a merc op to the planning and execution was very well done. Realistic with believable characters. Not like the disposable crap they release nowadays.
this is a true CLASSIC movie and PREDESSOR of MERCENARY MOVIES LIKE THE EXPANDEBELS ETC.,which we watch today.the action sequences were exciting,it is also a Heart Touching movie and the conversation regarding white nd black men between Hardy Cruger (COETZEE) AND Winston Ntshona(PRESIDENT LIMBANI) was excellent.Mercenary Movie Lovers should watch this one. HATS OFF!
I was in a pub years ago and this bloke got talking to me saying he was ex military etc etc, I can smell a BS’ter a mile away. He said he did this and that and worked as a mercenary… I still didn’t buy him a drink which he was after to tell me more of his adventures lol. The moment he mention he was rescuing a fella called President Limbani, I told him his adventure was like the movie lol. His come back was he did that a few years ago in the 90’s hahahahhaha. Fantastic movie, saw it when first released on my 14th birthday, can quote this movie as seen so many times now and still will 👍
Yeah I've met knobs like that in pubs ( that must have been a bloody big balcony at The Iranian Embassy I've met 30 people who reckoned they where on it 🙄 lol ) ,,,,
Great movie based on the exploits of mercenary Mike Hoare and 5 Commando when they were fighting for Moïse Tshombe during the Simba Rebellion in the Congo.
Roland was a warrior from the land of the midnight sun..with his Thompson gun for hire fighting needed done. So the deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day he set off for Viagra. To join the bloody fray...warren zevon rip
Personally I'd carry a Mossberg 590 with a variety of slug..00 buck 004 buck etc. 4 boxes each. A lot of weight. In CZECH bread bags and 50 rd bandoluers. Load up the troops with yugo ska riflez2t0 eds ea. And 16 rifle grenades each....yeah I love these movies. For an arm chair warrior these are great to watch
Such a classic I remember a similar movie with David Niven and Peck and Moore was in that also I think. Random fact: Theres a 70s Kung Fu flick that borrows the music from this movie.
wish they made movies like this today, wish our military had half the balls, to chance our own government before we are in the land of goose steppers. SAVE US
The movie had one flaw no mercenary in those times and even today fully trust whoever he's working for Colonel Faulkner would have taken precautions just to be sure in the real world

A heavily underated action movie with top class acting and a superb script. This is what you can call real adventure .
Before the "Expendables", there was The Wild Geese!!
Spot on!!! A Cracked article brought me here...how The Expendables was basically an unlicensed rip off of The Wild Geese
One of the greatest adventure and action packed movies .I will never get tired of watching it Full marks for acting, direction and storytelling.
One of the best action movies of all time. Worth watching over and over .
Absorbingly excting from beginning to end.

One of the most underrated action-adventure films of all-time IMHO. Reminds why I loved and missed being a PMC.
agreed. wicked film. North Sea Hijack is also worth a view if you liked wild geese. similar cast and style
@@tonyclifton265 Thanks for the tip!
Saw this great flick when I was in high school . Was great fun to watch !!!! A top notch cast : Dick Burton : Sir Roger Moore !!!! And others .
Damn, Richard Burton, Richard Harris, and Roger Moore! All in one movie! Saw this in the movie theatre back in 78!
Not forgetting Hardy Kruger, the Carl Perkins of cinema.
Richard Burton, what a man.
I really liked this movie as a kid and yeah the ending was intense.

That is the thing with al these old movies they tell you the whole movie either way it's a great movie very sad but action packed.
Probably my favorite Andrew McGlaglen movie. I remember reading the novel in a little over a day.

The best British action movie ever made. The narrator for the trailer played the part of Rushton in the movie.

I can't believe they show Rafer's ending in the film. Talk about ruining it for first time viewers. It's outrageous!
