Thank you for sharing. I love how the volunteers come together with the professionals to create these improvements for all to enjoy! Excellent work all around! (And great videography!)
Thank you for an excellent vlog. My Dad saw these canals working when he lived in Gloucestershire in the 1940s. I was able to share that the canals had new life coming before he passed.
A superb introduction to this inspiring project! In the hope of "more" (Saul Junction), I have subscribed. P.S.: I was recommended by One Day More Aboard, so megathanks to Caroline.
An excellent video, very informative and enjoyable. It's great to see our vintage canal network being reinstated and upgraded. It's a national treasure, but sadly under valued by our government. However the work of the volunteers is greatly valued by the boating community and nature lovers. Many thanks to all commercial and private parties who have stepped into the breach with financial support.
What a great video you have made! So great that they invited you and you are able to help with getting the word out. All that volunteer work is very impressive, and so important. It’s wonderful that you are willing to help out while you there. This is an amazing project. I really look forward to seeing the work progressing! It does sound like this could be a very popular canal for people who want to visit the Cotswolds.
Hi Fran and Rich, thank you for the really interesting vlog. What fantastic work the Cotswold Canal Trust are doing and in such a lovely part of the world! It gives me hope for the future that heritage can be protected, where there's a will as they say. Glad the weather was kind to you too. Take care both of you and see you on your next one!
Wow, and more wow that was so interesting. Soooo much work and engineering. Once finished it will be absolutly awesome. Thank you for this informative video. Lovely to see you. Regards from Québec Canada. " Trala love"❤️
It's amazing what is achieved by volunteers on the canals in Britain. I was watching your video and was interrupted by an early morning earthquake here in Wellington, New Zealand. Happy festive season to you both, Fran and Rich. ❤
Great video. I’m so glad you went to see the restoration project. We live not far away in Cam, near Dursley, so often take ourselves over to Stroud for a walk along the canal. It’ll be brilliant to see it fully re-opened and connected to the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal again. Hope you’re enjoying Gloucestershire - I’ve lived and worked here my whole life and I love it 👌
Very interesting video and well put together…. Nice to hear the volunteers being championed….. being one of the many people involved I can honestly say that we get a lot out of the volunteering and would encourage everyone who knows the canal to get involved in some form or another.
Really well produced video. Some massive construction work carried out which I wouldn't have thought would have taken place these days. Take care both of you ❤❤
We took some friends with us for a canal boat trip from Wallbridge in Stroud. Lovely little trip on Perseverance with smashing, very knowledgeable volunteers. Half hour trip for just £7!! We live near Lechlade and really look forward to this ring opening up! Thank you Fran and Rich for helping spread the word for this wonderful set of people!💜
What a great informative, well shown vlog. If I had been healthy, I would have traveled to England to boat on your canals. Unbelievable what the volunteers do. Hats off.
Amazing. Is going to be absolutely beautiful. The fact that volunteers are achieving most of this is astounding. What a fab video. Thank you for taking us with you.
H Fran and Rich. Thanks for showing this. What an amazing restoration. Hope they can link up to really go through some beautiful countryside. Take care. Nick
So uplifting to see all this work being done that will give a lot of pleasure to generations in the future. I can remember a cycling holiday in this area half a century back following the derelict canal down the Golden Valley through to Stroud and Stonehouse and it all looked very sad indeed.
Fascinating vlog. Very informative. Perhaps with the power of TH-cam, yourselves and the other great canal vloggers could really draw more attention and donations to these much needed projects. 🎉😊
Thank you so much for sharing. Stroud is on my list of places to go and not too far for me as I’m in Swindon. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and happy new year to you both 👍😊
Hi Fran and Rich what a great project should be amazing when it's finished a great canal to boat on thumbs up to all the workers great video thankyou ❤
What an amazing account of this restoration well done in bringing this to yours and other boaters viewers look forward to receding more info on progress. I think your license fees represent very good value for money The canals are a beautiful way of life seen through your eyes Thank you Fran and Rich ❤️
What a very interesting vlog, i have been a member since the mid 70s and your vlog will.bring more interest to this very worthwhile project. Beyond Stroud you have Brimscombe Port and then rise to the summit at Daneway and then the Sapperton tunnel which is 2.16 miles long and took 5 years to build, It opened in 1789 and at that time it was the longest tunnel in the world. Unfortunately there are several roof falls so this will be a huge challenge for the CCT
So nice to have some good news! Thankyou! huge undertaking. I believe a few years ago they did a survey and research. The result was teh world would stop functioning without the work and volunteers. I hope they will get the concrete bridge decorated and made ascetically pleasing. What a beautiful part of the world
@@FloatingOurBoat the canals appear to have a wonderful community and supportive canal lovers. Its so heartening to see. I am sure their future would be in uncertain without these wonderful dedicated people.
We absolutely loved this vlog especially as our part of the country, and very much share the same interesting, you would never know all this work going on behind the scenes.what a great vlog hopefully drum up a lot more interest and support for them,so close to connecting to Saul junction, could not believe when they crossed the A38 how quickly and efficiently all the work was done its absolutely fantastic, hopefully that part in our time🎉🎉but the biggest challenge I should imagine going back the other way is the long tunnel at sapperton nr Coates will definitely not be in our time mores the pity,a lot of work needed. But well done on the vlog it was fabulous you both do a great job and we really enjoy them thank you👏🏻👏🏻jean and pete
Yes, Sapperton Tunnel is off the scale with the work needed. But their sheer determination will see it through. Alas, maybe not in our time. Who knows? Thanks for commenting.
You made that very especially interesting for me as I know all those places you showed and have been a member since early 1980s and only moved away 8 years ago and they have come on in leaps and bounds since then. How amazing is the prize winning roundabout on the A38 project not to mention getting the canal under the railway bridge at Stonehouse. Anything is possible. Thank you. .
Nice way to start my day. Fires stared. Warm breakfast. Your video and no snow to scoop. We got 11" blown away by a friend and I have a house guest. An Ermine. Hopefully she will clean out the voles before she leaves. She's very cute and lovely. thank You!
Fantastic to see all this work coming to fruition. I've seen various bits of video around the internet, all describing the bridges, the roundabout that had to be moved, and the Missing Mile, where the canal had to be re-dug. Beautiful to see it all together ❤️. Great job, volunteers, and Fran and Rich
A couple of years ago we were in UK for a holiday and were in the Stroud area. I had seen the canal on a map, so we decided to go for a walk on the towpath. I used my phone for navigation to drive to the canal but we were taken to false places three times - no canal. Not having the actual map with us meant we could not resort to navigation by map and people we asked did not know the canal. We ended up going for a walk along part of the Gloucester - Sharpness canal instead. Maybe we will try again next time we are over.
Brill’ thanks for sharing. I’d love to volunteer on a canal restoration. Becoming part of the canal’s story. As well as walking and working in the footsteps of those incredible Navvies of the past. Amazing. Thanks again. 🙂🐿️🌈❤️
Lovely to see this even though we live 1/4 mile from Pike Lock😂😂it’s such a beautiful place to walk, run , cycle . My hedgerow jam comes from its hedges every year. .
Whilst this is really good to see it’s going to put more pressure on CRT in the future as I’m guessing they will have the responsibility of maintaining it

@@FloatingOurBoat Yes. I have been following it for years, along with what is commonly known as the Lichfield Canal now.

Amazing what people can do when they put their mind to it. What happens if a volunteer is injured while working are they covered for injury?
I'm sure they would be covered
Amazing and wonderful that the work is done by volunteers

Aren't there some sort of dredging machines that can maintain proper depth and clean up some of the overgrowth from the banks?
There are a few, but not enough money or manpower to use them regularly

Thanks for watching, and hedgerow jam is just what we need for breakfast right now :)
Let’s hope the existing canal network are still in use in 3 years time.
We have no doubt that it will, but we can all help to make it work
Great work by those volunteers
Wishing you a very Happy Xmas ❤
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Did I understand correctly - that the canal will be open by December 2025 from Saul to Stroud ?
Yep. Fingers crossed we will be there on the first day!
Ill sort out the BMC one day.. as a techno phob HAHA
I have tried a couple of times to buy a piece of merch but sold out 🙂 I'll get there hehe
Whilst this is really good to see it’s going to put more pressure on CRT in the future as I’m guessing they will have the responsibility of maintaining it
It may also bring more income for crt with new moorings and new businesses along the canal
