For poppers I have found that 30lb braid with a short 17-20lb mono leader (6-10") with a snap is the right combination on medium power rod. Braid for casting and good hooksets, mono leader to keep it out of trebles and helps stop Northern from nipping off my popper, snap allows quick changes and increased popper action. Give it a try Brandon!
I enjoy your approach, keeping it pretty simple, to me anyway. My home lakes are Chickamauga and Carters Lake in Chatsworth. Carters is full of big spots that feed on Herring. Congrats on your top 20 Classic finish.
Love throwing a pop-r. Sometimes I like to throw a black feather on the back treble hook since bluegill tend to have darker/blackish tails. Definitely gonna experiment with your lead dot on the back. Never thought of that before!
