This should go without saying, but this is our opinion on our OWN personal outlook on collecting. Why we collect, why we don't care about aftermarket value, etc. Just because I don't start every sentence with "in my opinion" does not mean that I'm trying to say something is objective, concrete truth. It should be common sense that anything we say in our own videos are personal opinions. Thanks for watching! Happy Friday the 13th! -Justin
Imagine buying a toy and not playing with it because "Maybe it will go up in value in the future" there is no more miserable existence than that of a toy that isn't used for it's main purpose, like ven if you only take it off the shelf to pose it around for a bit and then just put it back, it's still doing it's purpose of being played around with. An uncle of mine has stacked boxes of various figure lines, he has two kids that are very into TMNT and superheroes and star wars, but they don't play with those boxed star wars toys that literally take over almost an entire room, they are collecting dust and some are even hidden from view on big cardboard boxes, they aren't even displayed, they are laying, facing upwards, it's depressing.
Im kinda glad Black series is "worthless". Just look at Lego community. There are certain TH-camrs, who I wont name here, who bash some new sets but still buy hundreds of them to then sell after they are retired. There is also some who do invesment updates. Like they are actual stocks.
Thats why I moved away from lego star wars. I got most of the ships I want and dont feel the need to update them. Collecting figures seems easier and not so expensive.
Purchased the lego A-wing retired UCS set recently, I grew up with that ship, couldn't it won't be sold anytime in my life😅 nostalgia ... expected an x-wing got the A that Christmas morning:) never looked back until my brother broke the landing gear :D
MFS act like Mandr says sets are the single WORST thing since cancer when whole time bro gives a set 9/10 but just says some minor design could be slightly improved and done better. I feel like most of the people who say Mandr "bashes" Lego have never actually seen what dude says cause every time I see his IG posts he's like "THIS SETS AMAZING 8/10 9.5/10 !" like dawg💀. I think the WAY worse offense that he should be getting the MOST flack for is is his reselling cause FUCK resellers, but nobody GAF about that because they're too busy bitching that a reviewer reviews and says how a product can improve and become a better product ☠️
I said it at the very start of the big P, that all black s should be available at retail for a fair price and I still stand by that today. These were never meant to be high end stuff and star wars should be for everyone.
At the end of the day, for me, like any collector thing, the aftermarket value is a neat side element of the hobby, but shouldn't be the _main_ thing people care about. If all you care about is buying and selling, just get into stocks. Don't act like collectibles, and especially toys, _need_ to be treated like stocks and expect that to be catered to. Reissues are _good_ for collectors who actually care about what they're collecting. When I see people sad about reissues, I just cringe.
Not a black series collector but a sw lego collector-- got to say your guys' mentality is refreshing. Owning an exclusive toy, or only caring about the high price of a toy you own, takes a lot of the joy out of collecting and kind of undermines the whole point (which is love for the actual toy itself). I do like that some parts of my collection are exclusive and hard to find, but if lego decides to remake a set or a minifigure I own, and it devalues parts of my collection, I will be nothing but happy that the next generation of fans can enjoy it for a reasonable price.
How the Shit am I supposed to buy my brand new Porsche 911 GT3 RS Quad Turbo, then install an insane, custom one off Titanium Straight through exhaust system on it, raising power to 1200BHP, if my 2016 £17 Captain Rex figure (that I won't sell anyway! 😅) is only worth £24.99 on the secondary market!!?? Answer me THAT!!
Not sure she’ll be re-issued but I bought a MIB Cara Dune for $80 during the peak of the hype, now the same seams to be going for $35 or so. Never again!
can NOT confirm, still 80 - 300€ on ebay in germany. The credit collection (ugly paint) one is a bit cheaper and the vintage collection one is like 15 bucks. And she is the one that will NEVER get any kind of re-release, Gina Carano is suing Disney right now over Wrongful Termination and Disney still thinks they are in the right (they are not and they gonna get their asses wooped in court, can't wait for the dirt in the discovery process to spill on social media, got my popcorn bucket ready for that one).
Certain shit be permanently available NO MATTER what. Stormtroopers, Clones, Rebels, droids, etc. utterly insane that you even have to hope for a reissue for some army building shit
I collect for fun and because I like to look at them. They immediately come out of the box. I don’t understand keeping them in the box especially since they went to that crappy packaging and you can’t see the figure
That tweet from Star Action Figures is wild. On the one hand, I can see them worried as a retailer holding on the inventory that's not moving... on the other hand, Asajj is highly sought after, how do they have limited stock in their warehouse? Do they have their prices marked up? I don't shop from them but I'm aware they are more popular with overseas collectors where the line is harder to get to. It just seems odd to me that they are sitting on limited stock, still, and they decided to take it upon themselves to communicate with Hasbro on behalf of.... collectors? To stop these reissues? And it's killing the line? No it's not. What kills the line are waves of Figures nobody is interested it, or repacking the previous line twice with only 1 new figure 1 per box. That's what should have killed the line. Having 4 Lando peg warming simultaneously should have killed the line more than reissuing highly sought after figures... most of which are selling out. EDIT: Fully agreeing with your video again. I started buying Black Series because they were "adult" Star Wars toys. Because I love Star Wars, always have. I had some of the Power of the Force figures. I never thought of these being valuable when I started buying my collection. I was buying my favorite movies and my favorite characters. That's all. This gatekeeping needs to end. We are all in this, we should be happy for our fellow collector who can get these on retail rather than budget a $150 Anakin.
My actual sincere view on this, is I've spent an absolute bloody fortune on my collection and I do want it to hold some monetary value in the future. I'd consider myself mad not to. However, this doesn't have to be an exaggerated fortune, but it would be nice to maybe "break even?" somewhat like that graph suggests...I like rarer figures as well. I think expansive collections should have items that are harder to get, cost more, or you have to be lucky to obtain, or are fortunate enough to have been in the "right place at the right time" This adds stories to your collection. You add spice, variety and luck to collecting and it also makes it a bit of an "artform" rather than "I bought this for £20, like 60000 other people, which I find boring AF. I want to hear stories of luck and japes, fortunate tales and mishaps. Otherwise, we enter the realms of "collection communism" where everyone has exactly the same things, apart from the pigs who have more, because they WEREN'T born equal!!
Another great video. We have not seen many of the recent re releases here in the UK. I ordered Bossk and Rex from BBTS. With tax and postage, still not a bad price after the exchange rate. I feel for the UK sellers like Star Action Figures who were denied the access to the re releases who have been brilliant to UK Black Series collectors. Keep fighting the good fight!🙂
it’s funny, when I started collecting in the modern era, say 2008, figures rarely appreciated. Even vehicles like the BMF were shelf warming, so you can imagine the secondary market. The advent of online shopping and scalping has damaged bit only secondary market prices, but retail distribution, as it seems employees seem to be the culprits doing the scalping. Here we are now pre ordering like crazy people.
That’s about the time I got into Star Wars figures and stuff was plentiful back then. Even back during the TVC years, the vehicles were all plentiful and almost always went on sale after Christmas. When covid happened, so many more people got into collecting and that’s when the scalping got even worse. Just last week, I saw 2 Walmart employees talking about restocking the Star Wars and dc figs and saying how they’d get them first to resell smh.
THE BLACK SERIES IS WORTHLESS AND IM PROUD! it’s all about the love of Star Wars. People who are only chasing dollars should leave us to our sci-fi fantasy keepsakes
The only mild counterargument to re-releases (which isn't even a "value" argument) is that it would be nice to give some figures updates vs just straight rereleases. Like, Captain Rex would be so good on a modern clone body vs. the 2013 clone body he's on. (I could be wrong, i wasnt collecting back then) But even then, thats not a huge problem unless we are only getting reissues and re-releases, and a good chunk of the rereleases are 2020-now, less the pre-2020 figures
Yall nailed this one 💯🙌. You're absolutely right! I will say things do change when you get into hot toys though. They almost always go up in value and can almost double in value
Worthless in value, priceless to me as a collector. I’ve been in since October of 2013. I’ve seen it all. I will never get mad over rereleases. People can get them now. I never look at my collection to see how much it’s worth. If they update a figure, I upgrade. If it’s a rerelease, I skip. I move on. Love TBS, love the offerings. Nobody is forcing me to buy figures. I collect what I want, I pass on what I don’t need. IT’S STAR WARS AND I LOVE STAR WARS. That’s all that matters. Not looking at how to sell them.
Some sellers made some chump change from me, I've brought a few figures that cost me in the triple digits AUD. Commander Fox Specifically cost me the most, just over $200 AUD at the time I brought it.
The kick in the pants for me was buying army builder 501st and 212th Clone Troopers on the 2020 body, just to find that an updated Phase II Clone Trooper (2023) made them obsolete at a stroke. Not to mention, it is only natural that Hasbro will be making all the Clone Commanders with the new 2023 body in the future. For example, Rex and Fox are being re-released. It won't be long before both are re-made on the newer Clone body. Learning what to buy and when is a pain in the tuchus.
One of your best videos boys! A much needed discussion with the community.. I open and enjoy most black series figures but I did keep the Phantom Menace Qui Gon and the Clone Wars Obi Wan in their throwback packaging because they look so cool on the wall NOT because they're rare or valuable, and the rereleases have been a blessing like you guys said.. I appreciate you guys as always 🙌
This is such a refreshing take after seeing the state of collecting in LEGO Star Wars. Content creators will buy the same set 20+ times just to put them for sale on their own website marked up by 100% once they retire. I just picked up the Archive collection Commander Cody and I’m SO GLAD I was able to get him for retail and not pay for him on the aftermarket.
I am very curious why all these companies/brands are re-issueing all these figures cause its not just black series, its also Marvel Legends, Mafex, Mezco, Amazing Yamaguchi so on and so on. Its weird they are all doing it at the same time
I tried to sell a large lot of Black Series figures a few months ago, and couldn't even give those things away. So now I only buy the figures that have connection for me (i..e. Andor), chuck the box, and just assumed they're "worthless". I love there deeper dive videos into the mindset of collecting. There are some reality checks needed in this hobby. Awesome video boys!
A reissue is what brought me into the line, the 2020 wampa. Now I have 2 bookcases full. Still surprised they didn't reissue the tauntaun. I plan on getting a couple if they do.
Star Action Figures are my go to as they’re reliable and reasonably priced, but their social media whining often makes them look unhinged. They always seem to have a different reason for hating the re-releases. One argument was that they wanted to see new figures instead of old ones being released, but surely they know enough about the industry to realise that was never a decision Hasbro had on their plate. A new figure means multiple people at Hasbro working on design and sculpting for up to a year, if not more. They only have so many employees and this means there is a limit to the new figures they can make. A re-release needs them to just pony up cash and put a new order in at the factory with zero hours from anyone actually employed at Hasbro needed. SAF should know this.
It’s a good thing I don’t care about value. I open all the figs I buy anyways. I’ve never cared what they’re worth. I buy them to open them up and have fun with them. I think the problem with some collectors nowadays though is they look at buying figures like an investment. Even if Walmart gets new non exclusive figs in, they’ll buy them up just to resell them, even though most black series don’t gain much more value than what they were at retail. And if there’s some that are high, they eventually come back down if you’re patient.
Oh no, does that mean that when Hasbro stops selling these, I can still get them at a reasonable price?! Oh the humanity! Pfft, no. Couldn't keep a straight face typing that. The prices on secondary markets are going down and "collectors" are worried? Hasbro makes a reasonably decent decision, the fist in years, and makes sought after figures more available, how is that a bad thing? Like, I am legitimately confused about that.
This was so refreshing. I may be guilty of occasionally buying a character I’m not super invested in because I can’t have a gap in my mural box side art (🤣), but to leave something boxed because you think it might become the Hope Diamond is lunacy - and sad. Collect for the joy and enthusiasm! Well, said, brothers!
I don't even find the value in the aftermarket of figures these days. Once the Quarantine wound down, as a consistent seller (I keep a fluid collection), I found interest in listings dropped, the active messaging slowed, and those that did became very frugal. Can't even get a good haggle going. And if you price nice (maybe not even breaking even, just wanting to get it out), people get suspicious of you. Can't win. I also see other familiar sellers trying to go for absurd pricing and they don't move for months. Used to be a few weeks, maybe. It's months now.
I have never been a scalper but I have sold figures when they were valuable in order to fund the collection. I have bought several duplicates several times so I don't even want to think about what I have spent as well as some dark times of chasing figs and over paying. I have 4 of those awesome white Target book shelves full of in box which now has very little in box SW as I started opening everything and I find that I enjoy this much more than looking at a box even thought that in the box feeling still lingers! Most of what I have in box now on display is Neca Aliens and Predators, Mafex and SH Figuarts with a couple of Hot Toys. 7 large tupper ware totes full of loose figs its glorious. I will say after beginning to open all these figgies accessory storage most definitely becomes a problem quickly, so if you decided to keep in box that is another plus to keep everything together.
Bangkok Intro Gentle-manns!! 😅😅 Fantastic! ❤ Mc'Lovin that! You could have made it better though if you'd have shaken up the Sprite can and had it explode all over the kitchen!! ( Because obviously, I'd have had nothing to do with cleaning it up! 😅)
@@OutOfTheBasement No!! That's even stickier and instead of still smelling of "tart" lemon the next day, your kitchen would then smell like beer "ass!!"
That's why I couldn't care less what my collection is worth. Growing up and not getting the figures I wanted but I can now is amazing. And like the Black Series and TVC I only collect the jedi , sith and phase one clones just because I love them.
“You know business” “I am business” made me lol!! I started collecting for the love of Star Wars, figure values eventually started getting into my head. I quickly realized what I enjoyed became nothing but stress. I never sold any of my “valuable” figures and quit caring. What do you know, the fun began all over again. Collect what you like, enjoy it. You wanna flip and make money get into stocks, real estate or start a side gig. It’s nice to know that you may have something deemed “valuable” as a side piece of the hobby but that a housing be the reason to collect. I’m happy for those of us who held off paying 3x on the recent rereleases and got a chance at retail!
I saw ANH the first 2 weeks after it was released in theaters, and I’ve loved it ever since. I buy Black Series because I love Star Wars, not as an investment. If another collector buys something I have at a lower price than I got mine, I’m happy for them, because they’re a fellow fan of a beloved franchise. We’re all in this together, so keep churning out the re-releases so everyone can have what they love. I’m all for it.
Whenever folks visit our house and they walk into the collection room, the first question is always “oh, how much is this worth?” To me, the joy these figures and statues bring to me after a stressful week at work, is worth more than a monetary value. Collecting is a part of my life. Investing is not.
Loved the sketch guys 🤣 I’ve always been in the boat of not caring about value when it comes to collecting. I care most about displaying my figures, and it’s cool to see everyone’s different ideas in the best way to do that. Loving these longer discussions!
I’m so glad this line is cheap, I recently got into collecting them and I’ve gotten so many and found so many deals on marketplace. Thanks to their price I’ve recently started painting some of my figures which is something I’ve always wanted to do but now I don’t feel guilty "experimenting" on these cheaper figures.
I always say if your collecting for only the value of a figure your in it for the wrong reason. Im super happy that rare figures are getting re released. Thats awesome. Especially if you have one of those that broke or post an accessory now you get get one for spare parts. Im just happy its not like the insanity that is the lego comunity. Id also likr to add on the topic of owning rare figures. Im not saying people cant have rare and cool stuff, but that should be more of a bonus than the reason you bought it. Like i own a 1978 100% complete kenner vader, luke, and obiwan. When it started with vader i didnt want him like that for the sake of money but because i love ve vader and i wanted the first vader figure as it was when it released and i have that, and i feel the satisfaction knowing i completed my goal. I couldnt care lesss about money. To me that figure is priceless.
Personally, I don't care what scalpers and resellers think. Hasbro can't be a scalper friendly company like NECA and others. After years (95-today) of collecting 3.75 SW I recently decided to dip my toes into Black Series - Just Clones, Ep 1, favorite characters, and definitive versions, but the reissues have helped (Shout out to BBTS for Capt. Rex). Also, many of these (Crosshair, Asajj Ventress) were part of poorly distributed waves from 2021/22 and/or Wallgreens, Gamestop and WalMart exclusives. The only asset of True value is real estate (and maybe first edition Pokemon Cards).
I reckon most collectors love going to museums. Seeing art, history all displayed in a cool fashion..this is what we want to recreate in a way but more personal..it's not about money at the end of the day..I can only think of one BS box set that may appreciate in value..that Hero's of Endor set..that was pricey for me and I wonder if this is even available for sale anywhere?..cheers fellas🍺🍺🍻 SI FI
I held on to my BBTS Rex reissue preorder since 2021 and it finally went through. I was never going to pay the aftermarket price. Same with the Amazon Emperor with throne. I am certainly happy for these reissues specifically for my two grail figures that I missed out on. I also have no plans to resell my collection and only have it for my own enjoyment for a property that I’ve loved for as long as I can remember.
I remember when i used to collect black series and tbh with you it wasn’t for the money it was for the thrill for hunting down figures getting out the house and displaying them in a cool visual way even tho i moved on from black series and onto hot toys but i only collect what i want and what i want to keep collecting for value is dead already the companies are just gonna keep releasing archives and get there moneys worth at a cheaper rate pullin in more crowds
Honestly, I am so happy that they're putting them back out there! People need Rex, and I for sure want Bastilla Shan to go with my Revan, as well as the other sith dudes! I have never played The Old Republic, but I really want to
I've been out of the collecting hobby for a good year or so for financial reasons - and i completely forgot i had a Rex-preorder at the BBTS. The man is now on his way to Austria and while he's a tight squeeze, budgetwise - i absolutely cannot pass up that opportunity. Future!Me would kill me if i did. He's breaking my "1 figure per character"-rule because i customed myself a passable Rex out of Bad Batch Rex (which will always have a special place in my heart / display) but i don't care. Visually Clone Wars Rex is the gold standard for me. (Poseability is important but he just looks. so. good. They NAILED him on the first try.) Probably my only clone all year (not counting an Aliexpress Sniper) and i'm super happy it's him.
I am a proud opener, I enjoy these things for what they are, toys aimed at middle aged men. I just don’t get the mint in box crowd who are effectively just packaging collectors and like all the minty og Kenner / pali- toy collectors there will come a day when the grim reaper calls and the market will be flooded by relatives or friends having to deal with your collection. Enjoy what you can, while you can but don’t expect it to pay for your retirement.
I wish my main line, Max Factory's Figma did reissues as frequently as Hasbro's Black Series. To get Gilgamesh or Jeanne Alter on retail price would be awesome.
I actually got my Rex this year from a local shop for $80, about a week before his reissue LMAO. I'm just happy I got my Rex, and I'm happy other people can get their Rex too. Hope any collectors who feel like they lost out are still able to enjoy theirs, remember the passion and don't be a scalper
It's amazing that people will pay money for old Jordan sneakers, but bitch and moan about certain Black Series figures being reissued. As a person who just got into collecting Black Series figures two years ago, it is wonderful that I can get the more popular characters, and not have to pay head busting prices (which I did for Asajj Ventress). I credit this channel for my start into collecting Black Series figures, as my first two figures were Mace Windu, and Count Dooku. The ONLY reissue I have missed was Captain Rex, which I still have to pay resell for now.
I remember buying Wolffe for $100 back before we knew rereleases would be a thing. If I had to spend 4x the price per figure to catch up on black series I would have stopped collecting a long time ago. If you want to collect only for value then stick to SDCC figures.
the real question is, what contributes more to the line's growth, sustainability and cash flow? Availability + new collectors (high risk, they may buy 2 characters they want then they leave) or rarity + speculative collectors (they buy more than usual on hope it goes up in value)?
I always appreciate your guys more levelheaded takes, it’s a breath of fresh air coming from the Lego Star Wars community because you guys are right, they’re toys that people like, not your kids ticket to college (Also your guys Friday 13th intro was really good)
That "feeling" sure is real. I recently picked up a figure in the Power Rangers Lightning Collection line that goes for $100+ on the aftermarket but I got it for $30. Owner either didn't care, or didn't know what they had but either way, that "feeling" was certainly felt.
“You know business” 🤝 “I AM business” 😂😂😂 The perceived “value” of any collectible of mine is always just a “nice to have” if its there, but i just buys what I likes! If it’s gone up (if and when) i want to sell, yay, if its gone down meh, no regrets, i already agreed to give up the money when I decided to purchase.
This is the true heart of collecting. This is the age old statement i like to say they release a Spiderman you buy it should never release a Spiderman ever again. No they are a popular character it's dumb to think you will never get a rerelease.
The Friday the 13th stuff is hilarious, RIP Justin lol. As far as the topic goes, I've never once collected with the intention of selling down the line. My parents did that for a couple figures when I was collecting as a kid, but I never gave a damn about value. I will say, it does feel good to own something that is of value because it feels like a centerpiece of my collection, but ultimately, I'm just collecting what I love and that makes me feel good.
I’m just getting into collecting SW figures. Mostly centered around Rex and clone troopers of that era. So glad they reissue these things. I hate nothing more than having to pay more than double retail value to buyers.
My daughter’s college tuition is more than the value of TBS so I decided eff it and have been opening up my figs 😂. Seriously though you are a 100% right on this, enjoy the figgys open them up and display them.
Resale market being on par with retail is so good. I cant stand the collectors that think they should profit off of a hobby. They lack joy and need to leave the figures to the people that actually enjoy what we collect
Well, value for specific figures went up and down since 2013. And I just posted on ImperialShipyards that I'm glad that Hasbro's brand team listens to fans and saturates the demand for both lines e.g. TBS Darth Nihilus (prev. value ~80€) or BT-1 (prev. value ~50€). This hobby should be fun and if you started collecting The Black Series here in Germany, you can buy loose figures on ebay mostly under retail. If you compare sold listings, figures went between 5-18€ each with a MRSP here of 32,99€ (~$35 USD). Thanks for making this video and keep up the great work, please! Greetings from Germany. I really enjoyed that creative intro!
There are many lines that are worthless unless there is a very specific release or character for whatever reason. Personally, I don’t buy because of value even if I acknowledge that some will gain in it. I do not collect to resell: I do it for my personal enjoyment of a media. The fun of posing the character is still there, no matter the cost. All my TBS boxes have gone in the recycling bin and the only TBS figure I kept on card was my second RotJ Vader. Out of 25 or 30 TVC purchases, seven of them are still on card because of duplicate. I was even thinking of preordering a second Legacy G1 Optimus but it’s more fun to collect on card.
Sup Guys! I can honestly say I’ve never purchased any toy or collectible with the thought of making money off it later. I purchase because I love toys and collectibles and the media they’re tied to. Happy Friday the 13th by the way! @Nate, those shelves are looking good 👍🏼
Here’s a hit take for ya. Joytoy should get the license to make and design Star Wars action figures, they knock it out of the park on their warhammer stuff and their TMNT stuff looks next level.
Yeah, I don't really care about the value of my figgies. For me it's all about the fun of the collection. On those occasions when I thin things out a bit, I'll sell them for cheap or even just give them away to get them out of my hair. I have so many, and am always buying more, so the holes fill up so fast you can't even tell that I've got rid of any.
Collecting for me is the enjoyment of the character and line. I do see ridiculous price from second hand sellers (scalpers) but it does feel good to get them before the price does goes up. But some of the older figures that are exclusive are on a older models poor paint and why would I buy something inferior to newer stuff
Talking strictly about figures like Black Series or Marvel Legends, I never buy them expecting them to be worth something in the future. I’ve had to sell a few due to money troubles but I would have preferred not to. Now Funko figures, that’s a different story. If people want to be mad about something going down in value, that’s what they should focus on because those are designed to be collected.
People want to feel special. As with most problems in our society. People draw joy from knowing others don’t have what they have and yearn for them. It’s a deplorable aspect of human greed and vanity.
@@DavidEdge69 Sorry I must have missed it. Serena is adjusting to her new life with us pretty well I think. 🤔 She loves climbing up on me, she tends to use her claws on me as well. 🤕 😳 ouch. I hope things are going well for you, I'm still plugging away at the back room sorting, consolidating boxes of like stuff together and getting rid of stuff I don't need or want anymore. I pre-ordered my STAP with Battle Droid and to get free shipping I also ordered Maul with his speeder. I'm still waiting for the Super Battle Droid and C-3P0 two pack to drop in price, I'm not paying $50 for them and if I miss out, I'm ok with that.
I like Star Action Figures so I won’t beat them up too bad (and this applies to anyone complaining about the reissues). But by their logic, wouldn’t figures going on clearance be “madness” because it’s affects secondary market value? lol like yall said, collect because you like the merchandise, not as an investment.
Value aside, part of collecting is accessibility and exclusivity, whats the point of a collection if everyone has the same thing? The best part is lining up early at Target or waiting patiently online for that next drop, and knowing that you got it, is the best feeling ever. To the fellow collectors who collect HT 1/6 Batman and had the 1989 Batmobile as their grail and bought it on the high.............OUCH. That GRAIL CENTERPIECE you thought you had.........welp. Hasbro is the next Nike, where every Jordan is reissued every couple of years, thus destroying said value and exclusivity.
Guys…always remember: nobody hates SW more than SW fans. lol. Same goes for SW collectors. Having started collecting with baseball cards and then coins there IS a niche for collecting for value. SW black series hit me in my nostalgic feels. Being 7 in ‘77 and sitting in that theater with my dad…totally different hobby for me. Now I collect comics for value. ;)
I saw a post on twitter of someone that had a Captain Rex preorder at BBTS from 2021 that finally got filled with the reissue. Dude has got to be so stoked.
LOVE the Part 2 Jason costume! Looks great! I agree 100% with everything y'all said here. Personally, I'm happy that people who missed some of these the first time around are going to be able to finally own them without paying a fortune. Screw "value"...just enjoy having your favorite characters in plastic form!
Just to play DA for the other side, shouldn't there be some risk/reward? some sport to it? if there's no aftermarket value, if most people just wait for a figure to go on sale or rerelease years later, it'll hurt the survivability of the line because people aren't buying it from the retailers at release thus the retailers don't order the cases thus Hasbro can't sell in volume to retailers. edit: a healthy ecosystem has a balance of predator vs prey. If there's no predators (rarity, scalpers) then the prey overpopulate and starve off and die (availability, the line overall).😅
Shrug its 2024, i purchased a black series boushh series figure for nostalgia reasons and other leia figures, dont really care about the after market resell value, if they look good if your doing the opposite your a pyke :), i get people would like orginal 80s hasbro/kenner but we played with them, rereleasing toys is not a sin, hell i give most of my black series to my nephew to play with after looking them over, just enjoy them:)😊 each to their own i guess
Well said guys. I never collected for value, and never once had to buy a figure I wanted on the secondary market because of archive and anniversary releases. Only figure I wouldn't hold my breath for a rerelease is Cara Dune.
I mean lets be real. Collectors are not freaking out because collectors want the figures as part of their collection and so having the figures stay close to the same price is great for us. It is the scalpers and resellers that are freaking out and I can't stress enough that I do not care about them at all.
Buy what you like collect what you feel . Collecting actually sorta killed some of the greatest toy lines and built others from nothing . At the end of the day collect what makes you yourself happy not just because Joe or Jane say it’s so cool … course I’m nobody who has been hanging on to Starwars figures from the start cause he liked them and Gi Joe cause it was a gift of the heart from my only brother when we had nothing …at the end of the day just enjoy what you can and let everyone else find their happiness… sorry for the long …you guys do so well …keep up the great content .
Love the intro, RIP Justin, aside from the rereleases that just came out I’m glad they’re also doing Ventress. I found it at a random Walgreens when it came out with bad batch hunter so I’m happy people can get that banger figure
I’d say really there are 2 different types of collectors ones who collect for value and those who put them on display and I’d say it’s up to the individual to decide what to collect
I agree that you shouldn’t buy figures for value, but I do play the game a little bit since there is some money to be made if you invest strategically. I only do it to fund the hobby, however, since I’m in college and don’t have a large income. With that being said I would never get mad at a rerelease, usually I’m hyped bc I most likely don’t have the fig and know the feeling of finally being able to get a Rex, and a Cal Kestis, etc. If I ever invest in a figure and it gets rereleased before I sell it then I just chalk it up to me making a bad investing decision🤷♂️
-Justin
I used to care about value then I realized I don't sell anything anyway so it doesn't matter
Yeah same. Even when I do go to sell, they're already loose and out of box. Might as well give my fellow collectors a deal.
Ah yes, MandR and republic Bricks slander
Honestly, I wouldn't mind in the slightest. All that matters to me is cool stuff on the shelf. -Justin
You’re exactly right, we must keep fighting against the lowlife resellers who are ruining it for everyone
@@johnvader4584as usual it has nothing to do with resellers, you clueless re.tards, it has to do with the people buying on the secondary market
Well said! -Justin
Nate finally snapped, got tired of Justin's bullying
R.I.P. Justin 🪦⚰️🕊
No more Truly for me bro 😞 -Justin
Yeah generally speaking I never pay that much over retail for something. -Justin
New collections benefit from the new reissue because we don’t have infinite cash reserves to buy ultra rare figures
True! -Justin
In-box collectors of the Black Series are a whole different breed, lol! I couldn't imagine. -Justin
Anything that makes scalpers mad is great in my book. I'm so glad Hasbro is doing more of these rereleases.
Sipping on those scalper tears! -Justin
People are already complaining about rising retail price of figures. Why do these same people expect us to pay even more on secondary market?
At the end of the day that's what this is all about; Star Wars. -Justin
Tell that to the people who paid double and triple retail for certain figures, you clueless re.tards
Never agreed more to a comment
The only mild counterargument to re-releases (which isn't even a "value" argument) is that it would be nice to give some figures updates vs just straight rereleases. Like, Captain Rex would be so good on a modern clone body vs. the 2013 clone body he's on. (I could be wrong, i wasnt collecting back then)
But even then, thats not a huge problem unless we are only getting reissues and re-releases, and a good chunk of the rereleases are 2020-now, less the pre-2020 figures
Yall nailed this one 💯🙌. You're absolutely right!
I will say things do change when you get into hot toys though. They almost always go up in value and can almost double in value
Yeah Hot Toys is a whole different ball game. Thanks for watching, Hunter! -Justin
Well said, Sebastian! Couldn't have said it better myself. Afterall, at the end of the day this is about Star Wars. Nothing else! -Justin
Black Series could be worth nothing, and I'd still love them! This side of collecting never was for me! P.S Loved the skit! Happy Friday 13th
Appreciate you, Collector Cody! Take care. Your Malgus is on the way! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasementThanks so much!
Its weird they are all doing it at the same time
Interesting!
@OutOfTheBasement isn't it tho? There has to be some sort of reason aside from owning the scalpers
That's awesome to hear! -Justin
It should've been an alcoholic beverage... -Justin
Where did you get that Rancor piece???
It's 3D printed. Got the design/files from Landspeeder Luke's Patreon and Nate printed it and painted it himself. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement it looks AMAZING!!!
Whenever folks visit our house and they walk into the collection room, the first question is always “oh, how much is this worth?”
To me, the joy these figures and statues bring to me after a stressful week at work, is worth more than a monetary value.
Id be far happier with a "worthless" toy line than a "valuable" toy line where i cant get any characters that I want.
I applaud you, guys. I agree with your points on reissues.
Thanks, Doug! -Justin
Your patience paid off! Good stuff. -Justin
The ONLY reissue I have missed was Captain Rex, which I still have to pay resell for now.
cool video, i think the only figure they will never re-release is slave Leia or “prisoner Leia” and we will be stuck with that horrible figure forever
“You know business” 🤝 “I AM business” 😂😂😂
The perceived “value” of any collectible of mine is always just a “nice to have” if its there, but i just buys what I likes!
If it’s gone up (if and when) i want to sell, yay, if its gone down meh, no regrets, i already agreed to give up the money when I decided to purchase.
Well said, Nerdy Treasures! -Justin
I’m kinda curious, what if you don’t include the “worthless figures” and only look at the after market value for more sought after figures?
SAF are good, I think Sithlord uses them. But they do get a lot of stock left over going for uber cheap in their sales section
I hear ya, Brian! Still paying mine off! -Justin
Thanks for watching!
@Nate, those shelves are looking good 👍🏼
I can say the same! Appreciate you checking out the episode, Buzzed. -Justin
I totally agree. I buy because I love Star Wars. Because having them in hand brings back all my childhood memories.
A toy is a plaything to bring joy. Not a get rich quick scheme. Anytime I meet "resellers" i always give them a piece of my mind.
Collecting for me is the enjoyment of the character and line. I do see ridiculous price from second hand sellers (scalpers) but it does feel good to get them before the price does goes up. But some of the older figures that are exclusive are on a older models poor paint and why would I buy something inferior to newer stuff
Thanks for checking out the video! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. -Justin
True different lines can be completely different. We're only really talking Black Series in this video. Thanks for watching! -Justin
People want to feel special. As with most problems in our society. People draw joy from knowing others don’t have what they have and yearn for them. It’s a deplorable aspect of human greed and vanity.
End bloopers!! 😊 Who does actually upload the final edit?
That'd be me. I edit every episode of Figure It Out. Nate does the reviews and lately the bangers as well. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement You run like a Swiss Timepiece J!! Appreciate the effort 👌 as usual.
Hello David
I actually find the bloopers amusing.
Nate is tripping in the background saying "Oh Sh*t" LoL 🤣
@@theperceptor9287 Tom! 😃 They are funny. How is your cat? I did reply to your last message...
The "madness" was in reference to the reissues bringing the value down on the previous releases, not clearance. -Justin
Collectors aren't freaking out. Investors are freaking out.
I appreciate that you knew it was Part 2 Jason! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement Oh, I'm a total horror nerd as well! I have a Part 4 costume myself, and the F13 series is one of my absolute favorites!
Thanks guys y’all have made me realize that Hasbro does this with re-releases now I’m more likely to save some money along the way
Just to play DA for the other side, shouldn't there be some risk/reward? some sport to it? if there's no aftermarket value, if most people just wait for a figure to go on sale or rerelease years later, it'll hurt the survivability of the line because people aren't buying it from the retailers at release thus the retailers don't order the cases thus Hasbro can't sell in volume to retailers. edit: a healthy ecosystem has a balance of predator vs prey. If there's no predators (rarity, scalpers) then the prey overpopulate and starve off and die (availability, the line overall).😅
Friday the 13th intro was fire, 10/10 scream
Lmao thank you! -Justin
Appreciate the support! -Justin
I went eBay right now and the whole collection on sale for 10 grand…and another for 3 grand….crazy man
Hasbro is doing this in healthy way unlike Lego who once supported "Investers"
Bro I never bought any of the rare figures for over $25. Patience is key.
Walgreens still getting new Black Series?!? Lol! -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement I wish, I found it years ago
Fair enough! -Justin
