These two videos about Barn Burning are very helpful. You took a story that was very difficult to understand and helped me make sense of them. Thank you!
I'm a junior in high school taking a college level advanced class and this story is one my final tomorrow and I had no idea what it was about! Thank you!
You're correct, this story does take a few reads to grasp the plot. Having time to only read it once I wanted to be sure that I had followed the events correctly, which I have. Thank you for the summary.
You are so awesome, I wanted to let you know, your "videos" have helped me so much for my English Comp II and Humanities courses. I love how you describe stories in such a way I can make sense of them. Thank you for what you do! :)
Thank you so much for this, i was having the hardest time reading this. As you said it would take multiple readings to get a full comprehension of the story.Thank God for you and TH-cam! Way too verbose of a story for me! Gracias
That's right! I'm glad you pointed that out. The brother might have been shot, too. I guess I'll let my mistake stand, but I'm thankful to you for the correction. Maybe I can add that fact to the description . . .
Couldln't you also say that Barn Burning is a coming of age tale, the coming of age part being when Sarty first calls "Pap! Pap!" but then later yells "Father! Father!"? Lovely videos btw
How would you relate the character or Abner to the meaning of the entire work? Could you somehow take Abner's characteristics to be the main meaning of the work? I would really like your opinion on this. Thanks, Melissa.
Let's see. Abner's way of life is rejected by his son, Sarty. Sarty is the one who changes and grows. Abner stands for the life Sarty escapes from. Does that make sense?
I'm Sarty's brother Jack, and I can tell you with certainty I was not killed by the second shot. I live in Texas now; making a living by selling (legitimately obtained) items on Ebay. Also, Sarty's chivalry was over-exaggerated.
Who else is here for a reading assignment they didn’t want to do
Should've read it. More fun than an explanatory video lmao

Would you talk about Langston Hughes. "Let America Be America Again," "Mother to Son," and "The Weary Blues." Thank You :)
Yes! I think you're right. Sarty's growth is the main point of the story. I wanted to save him for another video. :-)
You're welcome! Hope Faulkner's words make more sense now.
Thank you so much for this. studying for a literature final
How did he get his limp? And what does it mean when he strikes and speaks to sarty without heat?
How would you relate the character or Abner to the meaning of the entire work? Could you somehow take Abner's characteristics to be the main meaning of the work? I would really like your opinion on this.

There was a movie based ono this book...I can't remember the name of it. Anyone remember it? ...it wasn't Barn Burning!
Haha! Aww . . . It must be the beauty of the ideas, yes? The credit goes to Faulkner, I have to say. ;-)
