    You're correct, this story does take a few reads to grasp the plot. Having time to only read it once I wanted to be sure that I had followed the events correctly, which I have. Thank you for the summary.

    Couldln't you also say that Barn Burning is a coming of age tale, the coming of age part being when Sarty first calls "Pap! Pap!" but then later yells "Father! Father!"?

    Let's see. Abner's way of life is rejected by his son, Sarty. Sarty is the one who changes and grows. Abner stands for the life Sarty escapes from. Does that make sense?

    I'm Sarty's brother Jack, and I can tell you with certainty I was not killed by the second shot. I live in Texas now; making a living by selling (legitimately obtained) items on Ebay. Also, Sarty's chivalry was over-exaggerated.
