The grand place was just stunning to me, so much history in such a compact yet open space. I forget the whole story, but one of the buildings they worked from the top down and the bottom up. But when they finished, just above the arch of the doorway, the design was off by a few feet and was not perfect. The architect was so upset he took his life! We would have never seen it on the building until pointed out, but it was amazing to learn a little bit of the history.

One of our holiday traditions is making Belgian Chocolate Almond Bark! (milk, dark, white and even the swirl) Nothing I have had (yet) can compare to the texture, taste and overall quality of Belgian chocolate. I think the tour was too short though, you should be eating chocolate for all three meals!
I know you guys are going to Russia but you must make your way to Okinawa Japan! It's a thousand miles from Tokyo and Okinawans don't consider themselves Japanese, they got their own thing going on! Incredible food and beautiful beaches!
A good friend of mine who was born and raised in Belgium told me that one of the top chocolate factories in Belgium makes the giant chocolate bars which are sold at Trader Joes. It isn't in a fancy package, but the quality is top notch. And the price is awesome compared to the fancy boxes and wrappers.
I've attended a chocolate festival before, thinking it would be heaven, but by the end I'd officially reached my limit and couldn't comprehend having another bite of it. Never thought that could ever be possible for me, as a chocolate lover. And even then, I think we only touched on perhaps 10% of the vendors at the festival. Crazy.
What a sweet episode... haha! Damn I am funny! Every time I am on vacation I do the hot chocolate test. I would test different hotels that I stayed in. At some places they would come out with a box of Nesquick and a cup of warm milk. Some served it like Nate said, and the had flakes of White chocolate on top! Man was that ever good!
English breakfast tea is completely different to Earl Grey tea. They are not the same at all! For starters English Breakfast tea is made from black tea rather than Earl Grey. Earl Grey is rancid. Sincerely, a Brit who is very offended and protective of English Breakfast Tea! However a very good episode. I went to Belgium for the first time in February (but Bruges, not Brussels), the chocolate and waffles are amazing.
In the workshop they used Callebaut Chocolate. Callebaut is one of the biggest chocolate factorys in Belgium, situated in Wieze (Where I live 😉). If they produce the whole area has a nice smell of hot chocolate.
The reason why Belgian chocolate is so good is because we have rules in the law about how to make chocolate, as the chocolate must not contain any flavorings or preservatives. So if you make chocolate with flavorings or preservatives in Belgium, you are not allowed to sell your product under the Belgian state. Fun fact, we also have rules on how to make fries.
How does Belgian chocolate compare to Swiss chocolate? I spent a week in Switzerland and very familiar with the chocolate there, but have no idea about Belgian chocolate.
Vlad M I have been both places, and I honestly like the Belgian better. It creamier to me. That said, Swiss chocolate is also some of the best in the world!
The story I was told when I went as a child was that the fountain boy was a kid who went missing for ages and he was finally found, just peeing in an alley. But I think your story would make more sense to have a statue for xD
what a shame that you only visited Brussels, Belgium has so much more to offer you can visit Ghent, Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp and Liège in like 4 days because they're all so close together.
