Vrelo Bosne is a source in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the mountain Igman. It is the source of the Bosnia River, a nature park and one of the most famous features of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located on the outskirts of Sarajevo, next to Ilidža and represents one of the most famous scenes of natural beauty in the region.
The source of the river Bosna, beautiful lakes where fish and swans swim, islets overgrown with lush greenery, and the fact that in the hot summer months the temperature there is several degrees lower than in the city of Sarajevo, are some of the reasons why Vrelo Bosne has been for more than a hundred years, a favorite excursion spot, not only of Sarajevo's citizens, but also of all tourists who come to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This area is home to various plant and animal species, some of which are endemic. Mala Bosna, a watercourse into which six springs flow, is the habitat of an autochthonous species of brook trout. At the session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, which was held on May 25, 2006. year, the Law on Proclamation of Natural Monument "Vrelo Bosne" was adopted.
Vrelo Bosne is also the area where the main spring of Sarajevo's drinking water is located - "Bačevo".
This picnic area is fenced and landscaped - there are benches, covered rest areas, a playground for children, and in the central part of the complex there is a restaurant where the specialty is freshly caught river trout.
