Great video, we just finished the Gambler 500 in Arizona. We used a 99 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. It did great, I highly recommend these cars for gamblers. ABG!!!
Another great video! I noticed at 2:28 you are leaking something on the roof from the camera view. I hope it wasn't gas ... from the plastic Jerry cans.
Oh what fun it looked like u prolly could have pushed ur subi alil harder down that trail but we reeally didnt see what all the fuss was over not continuing but regardless great vid i want to go to the gambler
I wish I had gotten more video of the trail out of there. Only a rock crawling Jeep would've made it through! Definitely do a Gambler, it's not likely they'll fail to fully pre-run ever again :)
I would take out that huge mirror, my friend had the same legacy, crashed and got a hugeeee concision from hitting it. Other then that, awesome video! :D
Hi there And beast regards from germany. Great channel. I do really enjoy watching. So you samt suggestions of cartrips for next projects ? Here are mine: 1986 Subaru XT and Paramount Star Trek Studios 1988 Chrysler LeBaron and a big Aircraft boneyard A weird ferrari Kitcar (fiero or beetle) and a boat salvage
That's really funny that you guys came across the Sasquatcharoo. I don't know the driver's name but I do know that car. He rolled with us on a Subaru Cruise from Sac to South lake Tahoe. if that's the same Impreza there's a bumper sticker that says, "Louder than your girlfriend last night". HAHAHA.
Horsethief Flat in the San Bernardino National Forest. Road name is 3NO3A. It's a black diamond road, lots of off camber and steep sections. Maybe an hour from Victorville?
They've done a few since then, but this started somewhere near Thermal, CA. We never made it to the end point, as you can tell from the video. But I believe the end point was somewhere near Big Bear.
I wish I had gotten better footage of the way to the checkpoint. There was only one built-up Jeep that made it. Serious off-camber stuff, one wrong move and you're sliding off the side of the mountain. I think the Bronco probably had a chance but I think he wanted to stick with us since we were stuck for the night. The Nissan was 2WD, wouldn't have made it.
@@HelloRoad Thanks for the reply. Didn't realize the hardbody was 2wd. Here's to hoping the organizers learned their lesson ref: prerunning the course!
@@HelloRoad I'm the jeep that made it all the way down there. The problem with the bronco was that it was not fuel injected and steep hills aren't kind to it so it wouldn't have been able to pull anyone out. I tried to find you guys for 7 hours the night before and eventually had to call it a night and head back out in the morning. This is the first video footage I've seen of the recovery tho. Great video!
I wonder why people always buy Legacys and Outbacks, then prove that Subarus are really capable off road for a lightweight regular vehicle, just a road car with AWD. Why not a Forester, I know the first generations of Foresters were also similar to Outback , not much more clearance, as they were a hybrid between an AWD car, and a SUV, but the later Foresters are a pure SUV, and having one of those lifted with the tires you got, cut out some of the wheel arches would be much better. I have a Forester III 2010, and it is noticeably higher than all previous Foresters, but even an old Forester for some funny amount would be much more capable and closer to SUV. Suspension is basically the same as Outback on the old models.
Because Subaru and Mitsubishi are the leading competitors in the WRC (World Rally Cross) and they make cars that are rally capable stock, such as the Impreza and the Lancer Evolution. Subarus are generally cheaper and easier to get your hands on, and unlike Mitsus, they don't constantly break down.
Smita I would have to assume a lot of it is just what people are able to find in good enough condition for their budget. If I was going to do this that would certainly be the case, I wouldn’t care really whether it was a forester or an outback or whatever.

Yeah! Subarus are perfect for this kind of thing! Thanks for watching!! #ABG!!!!

Lots of stress in Gambler's gulch ... Keep the videos coming!

Thanks! Fast forward a bit and you can see that yes, it was gas!! 😮😝
Sweet. I want to try that! 😊👍

Ah yeah! That is Dillan. He and his buddy Josh got stuck down in Gambler's Gulch as well!! :) :)

You never know if you can if you don't try !
What wheels and tire size are you running? I’m building a ‘97 wagon right now for the Rambler 500
Nice! We were running 215/65R-16 on Outback wheels and Forester struts. We had to cut the fenders a bit.
Where in California was this done? Start point? End point?
They've done a few since then, but this started somewhere near Thermal, CA. We never made it to the end point, as you can tell from the video. But I believe the end point was somewhere near Big Bear.

@@v745ti For sure I don't think this would happen again. Pretty sure they always pre-reun the entire course now!

Its not a pooparu its a superpoo
What Gambler is this? Im doing Nebraska this summer in a '70 Maverick
Hey there! This was the 2017 SoCal Gambler "Fool's Gamble". Have fun-a Maverick sounds like a great choice for a Gambler!!
You're a better man than I am. I'd be pissed if they sent me down a trail that had not been pre run.
So many of those vehicles would be impossible to find for $500...Nice $500 cars..fucking cheaters :P cool video ;)
Fun > Rules! #abg
Sugazi!
