  • Airline: JetBlue
    Plane: A321LR
    Flight: 007
    Seat: 29F
    ***Filmed in early November, 2021.
    There's already a bunch of videos out there about flying Business Class with JetBlue from New York to London, but what about Economy? In this video I hope to answer that question with a review of my experience flying with this New York City startup on their newest route across the pond! Unlike most airlines, JetBlue operates this service with a narrow body A321LR, which is a more efficient and cost effective option instead of the traditional 777 etc. But will this increased efficiency come at the cost of passenger comfort? Watch to find out!
    I'll be uploading the unedited takeoff and landing footage from this flight to my second channel: NYC Flyer Plus.

    Man JetBlue seem like they REALLY know how to take care of their passengers! The in-flight meal ordering from the touchscreen, the amenity kit, the blanket. I can't wait to book a flight on JetBlue, I'm already looking forward to my future flight!

    • @mmtot
      @mmtot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can see why flying a narrow body might feel claustrophobic after a 10 hrs in one but they don't fly that long.

    • @RoadCone411
      @RoadCone411 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mmtot Honestly if the seat is the same or better, I don’t think it matters much. The seat room/comfort, food and IFE are what defines a good flight versus a bad one and all things being equal it doesn’t matter too much if the plane has one aisle or two except perhaps in the issue of the lavatory situation, as shown on the video. On my narrowbody TATL flight, I didn’t need to use the lav but waiting in the aisle for one to open up isn’t ideal.

    • @marcd6897
      @marcd6897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the narrow body airplanes, and here the A321XLR in particular, have a max flight altitude of 10800 meters, while the wide body planes can (and do) usually fly at 11900 meters, and when flying over the Atlantic those additional 1100 meters can convert a bumpy ride into a more comfortable ride when hitting the jet stream.

    • @RoadCone411
      @RoadCone411 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marcd6897 I’ve never heard of that but it’s possible. Not sure how different the extra couple of thousand feet are in terms of ride comfort though- my JetBlue flight was glass smooth. It was probably just a good day to travel. I’ve been on plenty of widebody aircraft across the pond and hit turbulence. It’s not much fun (for me) no matter what plane type it is.

    Great review ! As a passenger I wouldn’t mind flying a narrow body aircraft overseas, but as a flight attendant I’m a bit concerned… I assume they rest on the last row of economy class ? For a 6hrs flight it can be tolerable but when the XLR will be operated on 8/9hrs flights it will be a challenge. I used to work on the A320 and the space is already challenging on a short haul flight so I can’t imagine on a long haul with a full meal service. But as we know aircraft manufacturers don’t really care about flight attendants.

    • @nycflyertravel
      @nycflyertravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for the comment! Yes, the last row was reserved for the flight attendants. I felt bad for for them because it really seemed difficult to operate with only a single aisle. They were really doing their best, but you could tell that meal time was definitely a stress.

    As an American expat living overseas, I can say why I favor a wide body on international flights: international flights typically provide a higher level of catering services when compared to domestic flights. That’s much more food, snacks, and multiple drink services. And as you pointed out, that means too many people, and not enough lavatories. As a premium cabin customer, I find that many main cabin passengers come forward because of blocked aisles, long lines at the rear lavatories, etc.
    My airline of choice when flying back to the USA is American. We lost our 767-300ER on this route, but now have the 787-8 Dreamliner.

    I never leave comments on these trip report videos, but I must say as a strict BA only flyer on transatlantic flights (mainly due to my mum working with them for two decades and only travelling with BA since I was young and it becoming my favourite airline and experience) I must say this JetBlue service absolutely knocks BA services out of the park, especially for an economy service. I can't believe how intuitive the IFE was, it looks a lot more faster to respond to touch and more interactive and the ordering your meals through the IFE is a brilliant idea! Also the amount of selection food you have to choose from, not to mention how delicious those options were! And that ice-cream sandwich for dessert as well omg! Never would see that on BA. Personally for me, all of those options including dessert and breakfast are better than BA Business Class on occasions. I'm not really into all the fancy stuff BA serves sometimes. I can't believe you even get a snack Bar in Jetblue and it's in economy! I believe BA only every had a snack Bar on the 747 and it was just for Business Class passengers. I last travelled in 2020 on a 777 in Business and dont recall ever seeing one, had to keep asking the crew. One of biggest surprises has to be the free WiFi... on a long haul as well?! I must try JetBlue one day for sure

London City is a small regional airline in London s docklands with a short runway so the A318 couldn’t upload enough fuel to get to JFK so it had a refuelling stop in Shannon, Ireland where US CBP was completed so you arrived as a domestic passenger. Sadly covid saw this service permanently suspended but it was great.

The 321 is not going to be able to cross at the altitude of a wide body. It is going to be limited in speed and cruise altitude thus keeping it at the lower more turbulent altitudes.

    I love the blue color lighting on the plane; it 👀 looks relaxing; and, I think the advertisers doing an awesome job at his advertising for Jet Blue awesomeness to get people to where they want or need to go by the fast transportation, a plane.😘

    Anyone who has flown JetBlue in the last six weeks knows how far and how fast an airline can fall. They suck now. They have no business expanding to London when they cant run operations here. The CEO is a clown. get your act together!

    Wow, I can’t wait to try JetBlue next time I go to NYC. Their product looks so good and the plane looks fantastic. Reminds me of Virgin. Transatlantic on a narrow body is really no different other than spacial perception. I’ve done plenty of 757 trips. Once you’re seated with your eyes closed, it’s really no different, plus the boarding process is way quicker.

    It always comes down to price for me. What will get me from point A to B. Just give me a aisle seat and all is well. If it's a long flight over 3 or 4 hours, allow me a meal option to purchase at minimum.

    I recently flew from Jax to Lax on a narrow body. They are okay for 1-2 hour flights but anything longer not so much. If this is the new way to travel it want last long. I prefer big aircraft like 767's or larger. I kind of sad to see quad jets being retired. The best plane ride I ever had and nothing else has even come close was on a Lockheed L10-11. Felt like I was in a luxury car.

      Narrow body aircraft have been used to cross the Atlantic for literally decades . So to say it won’t last long, doesn’t make any sense .
      If you think a two hour flight is the maximum time limits for narrow body aircraft . Good luck traveling by air …

They were the lowest price and I could use my points. This gives me hope..thank you..it was hell sifting through the mint reviews to find this.

    Fantastic Flight Report. Indeed in light looks weird to do a transatlantic flight on board a 321, buta as you mentioned doing NYC to LAX on an Airbus 320/21 or a Boeing 737 is same. And all the cabin layout and amenities makes flight very enjoyable. I like ppl saying No, yerk, without seeing or experiencing such a flight. Hopefully your report will convince more ppl…👍✅

    I've been waiting for the economy review to pop up. Thanks for making it! Flying JetBlue from Gatwick and returning to Heathrow in January. Really excited as I used to fly them when I was living in the US. As someone who has flown TAP transcon as of late, I'm use to the a321LR and actually prefer it a bit more now. Bit worried about the stiff seats but we'll see.
    Thanks again for making this trip report!

      @@nycflyertravel I think that very much depends on the success of the London routes. They have a big (potential) advantage because their product seems much better than the competition. Only problems are that JetBlue is not very well known in Europe and that they are nor Part of any Alliance. But with some good advertising and the right choice of destinations (mainly un-/underserved secondary markets with potential like OSL, BHX, HAM, BER, LYS or MRS) this may work out.
      This is just what Continental did sucessfully with their 757s during the 2000s, expand into underserved secondary markets. United managed to ruin most of these routes, most of them are history now ...
