- A fabulous little thumb plane on loan to draw, inspect and try out. Luthiers and Violin makers use the thumb planes for shaping and tuning.
And collectors will gather a small group of small planes because they look so good as tiny tools.
Well, Keir bought this plane in to show me. And then I showed it to Robert.
This video is for myself as well as for you to enjoy.

@@chrisfinn1162 I think more towards model making than Luthier use. It's very cool. I need to go through it all, check a few things and see if it makes sense.

Interesting little plane. Blade bevel up, right? Do you ever get to use that lovely mitre plane you made when we were at Sandwell? Be a good video in itself.

@@paulmcconnell8453 It's a little cracker. Yes bevel down. Makes it a lot easier for the mouth I should think.
No, I don't use my mitre plane much. I used to think it was more about the type of plane that you could get better finishes, now I think it's just as much the sharpening and the plane.
I should probably get it out, a little refurbish and make a box for it too 🤔

Cute! But would you use it? Or just look at it…?
I can see it being very useful for some of those small rebates, runners, ledges etc in boxes, chests and more. See it as an alternative to using a Chisel freehand.
There could be a Chisel plane version too 👌

Nice little plane. I think it's a little too small for my Orangutang fingers.
Should there be a slightly bigger one..? 🤔 Maybe a set of three sizes
@@twcmaker If you were going to make and sell them, then a larger one or two sizes would increase the usefulness of the range.. I'd add dimples in the sides for finger and thumb to promote grip like on some block planes.
