And it was repaid when Mullet did not believe for one minute Jack was dodgy in an episode where he was suspended. When an outside team came in to investigate him and then set up shop in Denton nick, Mullet went ballistic and spoke to Frost and asked if he had representation from Fed or a solicitor. When the outside Super walked into his office, he just about lost his temper with her and demanded everything be done by the book and implied he would destroy her career if she tried anything
IMHO this was the better ending. Toolan's wife hated Jack, and had said in a previous episode that if anything bad happened to her husband she would blame Frost. I think they forgot about that plot point in their rush to end this series. But as I understand it, David had the final approval on the canonic ending, so that's that, and it doesn't really matter what I think.
ATOF always had that bittersweet feeling to it. In a way, it made sense for the ending to have Frost finally find some peace, and a person to settle down with, only for the cruel hand of fate to intervene. I do wish it could have ended a little bit happier, as you said, but I am happy with the way it did.
Doesnt make much sense to use the mullet ending. Frost and Mullet werent super close. Frost was close to George so it made sense to use that ending. I dont think Mullet dying would have given Frost the idea to retire from the force .doesnt seem plausable Frost would have just kept going. When they killed off Barnard Frost quit then because of how close he was to him.
Hi Mark! Nothing special or anything like that :) They were just included on the dvd of the final season, and were not uploaded on TH-cam yet, so that was something I could do. Then, the videos were not accessible for a couple of years due to copyright claims, which are now expired apparently because I suddenly receive comments on them again. Cheers!
I would have bought this boxset once upon a time but I'm dvd free these days and may otherwise have missed this super Easter egg! I rewatch frost every few years and always dread getting to this episode.. thanks!

Well done. I appreciate the CODA / "other" endings. Humbly suggesting other endings: all three principals die as well as the drunk, the drunk is the only survivor, the drunk runs down his estranged / ex-wife, Jack is assassinated by spies / MI6 for reasons George and Mullet try your find an answer for. How about Jack is assassinated and George becomes a DCI who attempts to find all the answers to the assassination ( think of the ending of INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY ). Some crossover hybrid episodes that incorporate healthy reciprocal doses of MIDSOMER MURDERS, VERA, DEATH IN PARADISE or other popular crime drama series. Maybe even cross the Atlantic and throw in dose of PERSON OF INTREST. Just a few possibly fatuous story ideas for Future Flashback offerings.
They filmed three endings, one with George dying, one with Mullett and one with Frost dying. David Jason was then allowed to choose the finale, but they didn’t release which one they would use until it was broadcast
They did another alternative ending aswell where Frost is caught in the cemetery wearing his late wife's dress and dancing next to her grave ..He was taken to a mental facility where he hanged himself a few days later because he had been holding in his feelings for years and had a breakdown suddenly and felt too much guilt. 🤡🐍

Mullet and Frost fought like cat and dog, on the job. But shows Frost had the upmost respect for his boss and colleague

I see no need to kill off George, Jack, or Mullett. There's no reason to care much about Allan.
The death shows Frost that he needs to move on from the job, cause it can end at any time.
