    This guy knows what he's doing.The opening chords are played simultaneously as written.Superb expression and fabulous technique.Excellent orchestral accompaniment too.One of the very best performances of this Concerto which escapes most pianists.

    • @scabbycatcat4202
      @scabbycatcat4202 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The only reason why sometimes the opening chords are not played simultaneously is because the pianists hands are TOO SMALL to play all the notes together. Rachmaninoff had famously large hands and wrote his music accordingly which some pianists , especially female pianists simply cannot play .

      @ExSkyCyclePilot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scabbycatcat4202 Exactly... The opening chords in the left hand span a tenth, from F to the A over an octave up.

    The Cadenza in the 1st movement is just perfectly performed by the pianist together with the entire orchestra.. !! This is now one of my favorite Rach 2 videos ever !!!

      Huh, what cadenza?

      If the orchestra is playing, then it isn’t a cadenza.

    This is an incredible recording and performance. I can listen to this Concerto over and over again and still feel the same swelling of emotion. Rachmaninoff was truly a gift to the human race. My first piano teacher saw him perform live here in the States and he's been my favorite every since her stories of his performance.

    This Concerto has wonderful “tunes” that linger in the ear, dance around in the head, as they flood and overflow the quickened heart. It is a gift to anyone who can “unwrap” it. Rachmaninoff, among others, left this World a better place than he found it. This is a unique Socio-Musical Event.

    You are a wonderful pianist Simon! You perform very similarly to Roberto Cominati. Old school romantic is the best. Pianists have gotten further and further away from the proper performance of classical music over the past two decades, but it is clear that you have not deviated from the correct path. Bravo.
