    Great review! Very thorough! I've only ever had the Thule T2 Pro, I like it quite a bit. It appears to be similar in features, it does have a built in lock. But, I wouldn't trust the lock for more than a minor deterrence so I usually add a second thicker cable lock if I'm going to leave the bike longer than I feel comfortable with. I'd tell any new biker to just get it over with and invest in a good rack. You don't want to spend thousands on a bike and then cheap out on a rack that will damage your bike or worse, let your bike fall off the car!

    I love mine. So easy. You’d think taking off a front wheel for a roof rack is no biggie, but I’m glad every time I don’t.
    The ONLY thing so far on my Jetta wagon is the clearance of the lowest part of the racks hitch. My car is lowish like this car. Every once in a while I bump it going out of a driveway etc. just gotta pay attention to the road and find good lines.
    The rocky mounts west slope might have been a good bet for this situation because it’s hitch curves up. BUT that model doesn’t hold as much weight.

    Nice rack! I have the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 and didn’t need the fat tire capability but the Rocky Mounts’ ability to slide the platforms around to allow more space between bikes is a nice feature.

      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I actually sold my fat bike a couple days ago, so I guess I don't need that capability either anymore lol. The sliding platforms is nice. I haven't run into any issues yet, but if I ever needed to carry a friends bike, we could make it work!

    You have a lot of comments so someone might have already mentioned this. My friend has this rack and we recently went on a bike trip. When you lift the bike up to set it on the rack, because the back strap is stiff and sits up high, you can easily put the rim under it and through the spoke area as you set it down. I think I will order this rack, it has a good price point and my old Thule doesn't tilt.

    Awesome video!!! I used to have a Rocky Mounts rack and LOVED it, but unfortunately the 52” wheelbase of the Pole means I had go to a 1UP.
    But... I wanted to let you in on a little secret about that wheel strap issue! When you unclip the strap, tuck the tip into the side that is attached, between the rack and itself. It’ll hold the strap Out of the way and keep it from flopping under the tire. Super easy and really nice when you’re tired from a long ride! If you’re unsure what I mean, let me know and I’ll give you a better explanation haha!

    • @CobraKyle

      That's rad you got a Pole! They look like a blast. My friend has this rack and pointed out the strap thing you are describing. I felt so stupid haha. I wish I could edit it out of the video easily, but hopefully people read the comments!

    I just ordered one after calling RM to ask if it was OK to use on a class B RV. Some racks specifically say 'RV use prohibited', however, the rep said it was fine to use this rack on an RV. I've been checking out racks online for days now, and this one came the closest to 'perfect'. It can handle a 50# e-bike which was another pro for me. The 'big name brands' can do this as well, but they weigh significantly more and if I'm going to be lifting this thing from vehicle to vehicle it needs to be light.

      @@CobraKyle 1up does not work with bikes that have fenders, you can get away with RockyMounts tire locking mechanism with bikes that have fenders & this is why I chose RockyMounts + it looks sharper than the aluminum 1-up, I don't care for that aluminum look.

  • @zachm638

    Looks pretty sick. I think I've got the same Swagman hitch that you used to have, and I just ended up putting heavy duty 3M tape on my top tubes where it clamps down. I do really like how that one has the integrated lock in the clamps, but I'll keep Rocky Mounts in mind when it's time to replace.
    BTW, I think I saw you setting up a shot yesterday morning on the blue loop, but I was too focused for it to register at the time. I'll try and say a (socially distant) hello next time.

      I liked the Swagman Chinook. It was a good budget rack for sure! I used to wrap shelf liner around the hooks, but I would often forget to put it on and just go with it. That was me at McAllister yesterday! In the future feel free to say what's up!

My friends rack cannot fit my sons bike if there is another bike on it, the seat post and his handle bars hit each other. Maybe I’ll run into you at Mac and see if I can mount mine and my sons bike before purchasing. I’m also looking at the 4 bike versions.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool you were just in Bentonville. I love it there. With the sliding tray options on this rack I think you could potentially carry almost any variety of bikes. Looks like Rocky Mounts doesn't make a 4 bike version, so I can't comment on which models are good or bad.

    Awesome review! this convinced me to get this rack a few months back for my NA miata! I also had the Hard Dog Hideaway hitch.
    The rack has been great, but then I noticed that the part that inserts into the hitch receiver started to bend down. Have you had this problem? I contacted RockyMounts and they said that it's because the hitch is a class 1 hitch when this rack requires a class 2 hitch.

    Nice racks, I ended up going the monorail solo due to the compact size of 25lbs and will be mostly riding solo. My road bike can shave inside my car if needed. However, I was debating on getting this one because the racks hold up to 60lbs a piece while the solo is 60lbs, but with the add one is only 45lbs per bike. I got it for my Specialized Turbo levo e-bike around 50lbs. If you get the solo and, the add on cost 170, actually pay more in the long run if needs are needed for a two bike rack.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the küat (koo-at) NV 2.0 and love it. The integrated locks get a bit difficult at times, but they have great customer service, from what I hear. Based in Springfield, MO, they are regional to me. I think Thule is pronounced “tool.” I have my rack on a Prius V. Looks great, but the tilt adjustment does put it low- sometimes between letting it down and putting it back up, i bonk my head on bike bits. The back wheel straps on the NV get in the way too, so I usually just use the back tire to sweep them out of the way, since the back tire tray is pretty much flat- dunno if that would work with your shaped trays 😕

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the pronunciations lol! I like the looks of the NV, but just wasn't ready to drop that kind of cash. My friend has the same rack as me and he showed me a trick to stuff the rear wheel strap into itself and that works. I wish I had known that before filming lol.

  • @rickyricardo272

    That's a great review man! I have a question about your trailer hitch, it seems like a small bumper hitch instead of the full big bar hitches. Is it a custom one or am I just not seeing the full bar ?

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It's a hitch designed specifically for the Miata. It's actually mounted behind the bumper with the factory bolts for the bash plate. The standard hitch from U-Haul I would have had to drill holes in the frame rails and I didn't want to do that. The hitch I got for this is called the "Hard Dog Hideaway". Pretty neat design!

    What size mountain bike frame are you riding? It looked like the rear wheel was hanging a bit off the holder. I like the low weight and the similar design to the T2 Classic, but too short of a tray would be a deal breaker for me. I have XL bike with 49” wheelbase. Might be too small

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All my bikes are a size large. That back wheel tray does rotate backwards to accommodate them, and I've had no issues with bikes falling off the back. I believe the website states that 49" is the max wheelbase this thing can hold, so it may be tough with your XL bikes.

    • @CobraKyle

      I've never personally used a Yakima product so I can't speak to their quality. It looks like the HoldUp does have integrated cable locks which is nice! The Rocky Mounts seems to hold a wider variety of bikes, and the rack itself is 10 pounds lighter which is nice if you take the rack on and off a lot.
