  • Greetings Daily Hit viewers! In today's video we're pulling back the curtain on the massive plastic industry's role in Pacific pollution. Corporations are directly responsible for the out of control plastic waste crisis in the Pacific Ocean and the ever-expanding Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
For far too long these powerful plastic manufacturers have avoided accountability for the environmental havoc their products cause. But the shocking truth is that companies like Coca-Cola, Nestle, Microsoft and more are actively fueling the garbage patch through their excessive plastic packaging and lack of sustainability practices. We're on a mission to expose how big plastic is destroying the Pacific, and spur these corporations into taking real action.
In the video we provide irrefutable evidence linking major plastic producers to the crisis, from their branding clearly visible on Pacific plastic pollution, to insider documents showing how they aggressively market single-use plastics despite the consequences. There is an undeniable connection between the profits of companies that churn out endless plastic packaging, and the exponential growth of the floating "trash island".
Every day tons of excess plastic from companies producing bottled beverages, packaged snacks, electronics and more end up in Pacific waters after being used and discarded on land. This is driving the plastic pollution in the Pacific at an astronomical rate. Remote Pacific beaches are now buried under mounds of plastic waste tracing directly back to corporate origins.
We interview activists confronting Nestle and Coca-Cola at shareholder meetings over their plastic waste footprint. We follow volunteers cleaning up beaches to reveal the mountains of plastic bottles, wrappers and containers coming from a handful of global conglomerates. The verdict is clear - corporations must take responsibility for their outsize role creating the Pacific trash vortex.
Some shocking statistics covered in the video:
80% of plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from land-based sources
There are over 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic floating in the patch
It's estimated that the garbage patch is growing by 88,000 tons of plastic per year
The main driver is excessive and problematic plastic packaging
With the heavy handed use of plastic by profiteering companies poisoning the Pacific, urgent action and accountability is needed. From investments in sustainable packaging alternatives, to funding cleanup efforts, to taking responsibility for all the brand name plastics clogging up Pacific ecosystems, big plastic must step up. Or else this preventable destruction of our precious shared ocean resources will continue.
