internet forums are the best places to find info, and provide how to fix almost everything. ( you have to wonder why an engineer would combine startup procedures with a cluster)

Yes, I always do research before starting a job so I know what to expect!
My guess is that engineers tied the whole system through the bulbs so that if the system can't warn you of issues it prevents you from driving - that way you don't damage the engine. I wonder if there's a BMW engineer out there who could explain it!
