    You’re absolutely fabulous! I’ve been a female in construction for 16 years, but haven’t really worked much since adopting my last 3 foster babies a coupla years ago. I adore your videos and almost always come away either learning something or having the need to buy something for my shop. You have a way of teaching that doesn’t make anybody feel inferior, that’s incredibly priceless in this field. Thank you 😃

    Oh my goodness Leah that Q Bond review was amazing! Thank you so much! And thank you to the viewer who suggested you making that video. I think that you such a great job on your home improvement videos in your professional tips and tricks. I grew up watching Bob Vila, but your videos are far more informative, educational from a practical standpoint, and just downright Pleasant to watch. You are my new favorite DIY person on TH-cam! Thank you again so much. Warmest regards and God bless you and your effort, Joel

    I used this over 15years ago. In Australia I know have to stop around. Saved my holden Commodore in a bad situation. Top stuff. Btw you can use on a hot repair as I did. Sealed a hot water leak especially when metal is hot. One layer because I burnt my hands. Ridiculous awkward repair. But instant fix. 15years ago. Now impossible to get in Australia! I make my own with extremely fine metal filings. Top video!

    You can do the same thing with any "super glue" and baking soda. I've even seen that used to make parts for small model cars, planes, trucks, etc. Once it hardens (in seconds), it can be drilled, sanded, filed, painted--whatever you can to do plastic or metal. I've used it to repair broken laptop cases, to fill holes in wood (correcting mistakes), and many other things. Q-bond is simply a super glue with some colored powders. Since there two types of powder recommended for different materials, I would assume there is some advantage over plain old baking soda, but that does work well for the things I've mentioned.

      As someone who's used Q-Bond a lot, it *is* basically krazy glue/super glue, but it's formulated for super low viscosity and much faster curing time--at the expense of making it a little bit trickier to use. Other brands of cyanoacrylate adhesive tend to have something added to make them a little more viscous, which makes them easier to use but also seems to slow down the hardening time. Plus, sometimes you *want* it to flow really easily so it'll get into cracks.

    Thank you for this video, I originally saw this used to repair a car door mirror and couldn't believe how well it worked!
    The internal mounting for my mirror was broken whilst parked and to my absolute horror was quoted £428 for a new mirror for a Skoda Citigo!
    This looks to be the best possible repair for injection moulded plastic parts and the powder reinforcement can fill shattered mountings, giving them sufficient strength to resume working!

    One of Q-Bond's best features is also its biggest drawback: It hardens really fast, but before that it's REALLY thin and runny and likes to go everywhere. You've got to be super duper careful with it!

    I sometimes use strips of paper towel soaked with super glue to reinforce super glue repairs on plastic parts (fridge shelf, car mirror, little backpack strap brackets, etc). I'll glue the main piece and hold it until it sets, then cut an appropriate piece of paper towel and soak it with the CA glue, and lay it along the seam. If you reinforce both sides, it's usually stronger than the original. Gotta make sure the surfaces are very clean first, though. You can use a bit of cloth as well, but I don't always have a clean rag and paper towels are adequate for most things that don't see particularly heavy use.

      I am a retired mechanic and welder.... I have and do use both Q-Bond and Crazy Glue with baking soda. IMHO, Q-Bond is better, but a close second is the CG+BS. The main reason I like CG+BS is that using only CG, you have to hold the piece in place for (F&_ing)ever.

    So I cracked my aluminum housing to my oil filter on my Mercedes. For the last week I have been using JB Weld and E6000 To seal the crack it worked on one side of a crack but the other side of the crack kept spewing oil out every time I start the car. I am definitely going to get the stuff if tomorrow oil is still leaking. Thank your for the video

    It's just super glue, I wouldn't expect it to work on a cloth reinforced belt. I've seen the super glue/baking soda trick and this looks like exactly the same thing. Another twist I've seen is superglue/powdered-graphite version, which appears to be even stronger yet. You need to be a little neater with what you do, after putting some powder in the hole, why not level it off instead of leaving the mound, and then being sure you saturate it better? Would be curious to see how well that bond in that hole worked if hammered on or something.

  • @michaelcampbell1009

    What is you glue edge to edge on metal? You only filled the hole on the metal bar that is not really something that is critical. If I have a circular ring that is with a half inch height and it split into 3 pieces and I want to glue it back into a circle. Will this work?

    I love super glue or Cyano Acrylate (CA) to give its generic name. As you pointed out it can work well but does have its limitations.
    I think you should have mentioned one important thing, how to remove CA, especially when you have glued your fingers together, that is that Acetone will remove CA (main ingredient in nail polish remover). Also relevant is that CA cures with exposure to moisture in the air. This is why you should store it in a dry place, I use zip lock bags and also add silica bags to keep moisture out.
    One last tip, you can hold parts together with tape and let CA wick into join ( using “thin” CA).
    If you want to be adventurous, hobby shops sell CA not only in different viscosities but also contains different additives like rubber for flexibility and carbon for extra strength.
    Keep up the great work, I am new to your channel and have become a fan of your work.

    • @Simon67316
      @Simon67316 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some else said that baking powder works just as well with thin CA, and you've mentioned some CA's can have carbon added for strength and it got me thinking about Q bond and their grey and black filler powder, would I be right in thinking they add different amounts of carbon powder to baking soda for their product with the grey having more carbon powder to be used on metal?

    • @rfmerrill
      @rfmerrill 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get CA adhesive in your eye, go to the hospital. DO NOT PUT ACETONE IN YOUR EYE!!! CA will not damage your eye permanently, Acetone WILL. It causes nearly instant and permanent clouding of the cornea (basically a cataract). Krazy Glue has a whole webpage about getting it in your eye.

    I found a similar adhesive on Amazon. One was super thin for close fitting parts and one medium for gap filling. I had a plastic fitting break on my car so initially bonded it with the medium then carefully packed baking soda around the joint to create a fillet reinforcement and dropped the super thin on that. It has to be strong enough to slip a rubber hose on it plus some vibration but this process made the repair stronger than the parent material. You have to use the thin adhesive for it to saturate the baking soda but it also cures instantly - even gets a little warm! Looked like your v belt may have been more porous and a little misaligned. Maybe another try would get it

    I have a inside driver's side broken door car handle. I want try this stuff do I have to clean my handle first before putting the glue on, if so what with? I don't think gluing will be enough though, I think I will have to brace behind it with a similar piece of study plastic. I would like to use the powder with the brace, I'll have to experiment first on some junk. The garage broke my handle and won't fix it and I don't want to pay $160. so I thought I might try this, looks cool! It might be a little difficult because my handle will be in a normal position I'll have to sprinkle the powder on the extra piece and stick it on fast. I watched several videos and didn't hear if pieces should be cleaned. It's a 2003 ford expedition. Can I use this stuff on my radiator supports...lol! $2000-$4000 I'm crying...

    There are several products on the market that do a good job of repairing metal. And no, I wouldn't trust any of them like a weld. Knowing what end result you want can allow some flexibility in your repairs. If you aren't a welder and would need to hire one this product could make really good sense in SOME applications.

Maybe try to slice off the frays/curves (only enough to flatten it, without changing the overall belt length) and then hold pressure while it's setting up to make sure it's physically interfaced across the entire cut. You could also do a comparison between super glue + baking soda as other commenters suggested.

    You could have tried using some of the plastic powder on the belt

    I have used Q-bond in several situations where it was very effective but finely moved to a similar product, Tech-Bond from tbbonding.com with excellent results. They use the superglue with ad activator and usually an application of heat. Also excellent videos for gluing different products, some which Q-bond will not glue. When I havefollowed their directions I have never had a failure.

    Yoou should try Weldbond for woodworking.It is from Canada - I am Canadian and never used it - and was put onto it by Steve Ramsey - WWMM - It is excellent for products that you have put finish on - easier to finish while apart - And I am now a big fan
