- how to replace mercury optimax 200hp spark plugs. how to remove mercury optimax lower cowling. Socket size 5/8". Plugs on a mercury optimax do not have to be indexed so no issues there.
Great job! Taking the cowling off is the right way! Great advice on changing out the oil filters too! Awesome video, taking off the cowling takes less than 1 minute and saves tons of time! I attempted to remove the lower part of the cover but I was stuck not being able to remove that rear bottom bolt. I'll check tomorrow morning to see if I can find an access point🤞.

You can take out the plugs without removing the bottom cowling. All you need is a universal joint and a set of small medium and long wobble extensions. To put in #6 and # 5 get a small piece of fuel hose and put it on top of plug and hand tighten plugs so you don’t strip them.
Ya that will probably work. You will have to be very cautious if you don't remove the lower cowling.
Good video! It’s not necessary to fog cylinders, running the engine with a mix of 50:1 is all that’s needed. I mix recreational fuel with the mercury fuel additives bottles 1,2,3, in a small remote tank for several minutes.

jasse the process will be the same. I haven't worked on a 115hp. You may be able to access the plugs on that motor without removing the lower cowling. Have a look where the strainer may be. If it's down low you will have to remove cowling to get to it. Well worth the effort for simple maintenance.

Hey pal ! Great Info . Question . I was told by my dealer . Fogging oil is not necessary for 2016 optimax. I've had since new . So should I be fogging for winter?

Mine is a 200 opti 08 model and uses NGK-IZFR5G. You'll have to check your year and model. Not all are the same.

If the wires are old it wouldn't hurt to change them. 👍
What size plug socket is required? is it the same for the 250?
socket size is 5/8 ". I believe it's the same plug for 250 but the gap size is different. just double check with engine serial number.

how about mercury 115....it same...
I have a 150hp optimax. My engine would run with no problem if I take out 1 spark plug, buy won't run if I put it back on. Why is this happening?
Trang Tran what do you mean wont start. an engine will run without one plug but you will have loss of power. Is the plug bad? will the engine not turn over?
Engine would crank but would not start when I put the spark plugs back
Compression is good. When I take the spark plugs out, it takes a while to start but once it starts it runs fine. Doesn't look like it lost power
Trang Tran what year is engine. Make sure starter is fine and belt is not slipping. Check your battery. Do you have proper voltage. If its low will not start.
