On the acer, use your thumb nail to scrape the bark/stem at the bottom of the bush.If you see green then its still has a chance.if its brown then bin it, trim the dead wood back and take out of the tub put it in some water for a few days ,then repott.
Hi mate, have just done as you said, and it is slightly green 👍👍, so I will persevere with it. Thanks for the info, really appreciated mate, take care, Terry.
Hi Dave, and thanks mate, I think the koi were as happy as me to see the covers come off lol. This is the first time in 3 years I've had to treat for blanket weed, I remember what a pain in the ass it is now lol. take care mate, Terry.
Hi Terry . I love this time of year , when everything is coming back to life . I know what you mean about the blossom trees , though . Our neighbour has a beautiful cherry blossom tree and I can guarantee you that come mid-April we`ll have a few days of Easterly winds which dumps the "pink snow" all over my garden - then about 3 weeks later (happening now) the wind turns to the South just in time to top up the "snow" from the hawthorns at the back of us 😊 Another job for the weekend ! - Speaking of which , you`ve got a job on with that blanket weed . Thats one disadvantage of the covers - you cant see it creeping up on you . Ive found over the years - you have to try and get it early , before it takes hold . I normally treat with a half dose in Feb - although it was later , this year . Good luck with it , and take care 👍
Hi mate, Algae is just one of the curses of pond keeping lol. I've not had to treat my pond for 2 or 3 years for algae, but it's back with a vengeance this year 😲😲not to worry, I'll get it sorted 👍👍The blossom is still landing in my pond here😡😡that's just another pain in the backside lol. Like you say though, this is a great time of the year, and summer to look forward to 👍👍 you take care mate and have a great summer, Terry.
Hi wrighty the pom pom bush you can buy metal frames for it to grow around in different shapes can be trimmed to your preference concerning the acer they like acidic soil and are vulnerable to the cold so you want see leaves till it warms up mine only justed started showing leaves it needs a bigger pot or planting out with some ericaceous composte and the ferns will die back in winter to small stumps they preffer shaded damp areas hope this helps (can you tell i manage a garden center 🤣🤣)
Hi mate, and thank you. That's great info on the plants mate, much appreciated 👍👍 I did plant the Acer in the garden yesterday, and gave it some Acer plant food in with the soil, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞 The ferns are really growing well now, so I didn't kill them, like I thought 😂😂 thanks again mate, and take care, Terry.
Good to see your season kicking off. You sound a bit more out of breath in this one. I hope that you are taking care! Put the maple in the ground. With the leaves gone, fight the urge to over water. Water will rot the roots. A garden tip for you is to make use of your filter backwash as it makes for a superb garden fertilizer.
Hi Zeke, and thanks for the tips mate much appreciated. I have had a few problems with my medication, which is not helping, but I'm fine mate thank you, take care, Terry.
Hi Terri lovely to see your covers off, that was alot of blanket weed removed hopefully the treatment will get it all ,the pom pom shurb just leave you can trim it in spring ,the acer is worth keeping take it out of full sun and wind plenty of water and some liquid feed maybe even a repot you nay be able to nurse it back to health worth a try ,great update x
Hi, and thank you. I can't believe just how much algae I did get out 😳😯 Like you say, hopefully the Cloverleaf will sort it. Thanks for the info on my plants, its very much appreciated. As you know, I know nothing much about gardening, but I am learning 😂😂 thanks again, and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry...just a thought. I used blanket answer on the pond and was never happy that I had to switch the filters off for 24 hours for it to be effective then the pond was murky with the treatment for a couple of days. About 5 years ago I discovered Viresco Koi which is totally natural and consists of billions of microbes which get rid of nitrate and phosphates thereby starving the algae of its food source. It also makes for a healthier pond as it keeps the bad bacteria at bay. Its most effective over 10C so I use it in early April and have never had an issue with algae since. The fish are always in top condition also. Most in the reviews find it works well and those who don't mustn't be preparing it properly...it needs to go in a bucket of pond water and aerated during the day and put in the pond just before dark. Its one of those little gems that you come across every now and then.
Hi Keith, and thank you for the info mate, very much appreciated. I think my problem with it would be the plants in the pond and the bog filter I've just built. Clearing the nitrates in the pond would also kill them off. But thanks again for the info mate, I think it's always good to know what products are on the market. Take care and stay safe, Terry.
Another really nice video, I love the spring, it sort of sets everything up for what's to come. Your fish have wintered superbly. You seem to have had some sound advice regarding the plants, the only thing I would add is, do remember ferns will tolerate sun but shade is the way to go and keep them moist. Thanks again for sharing Terry, you did sound a bit under the weather at the start of the video but perked up as you went along so hope you are back fighting fit again. Take care.
Hi mate, and thank you. Yes, I'm fine mate, thank you for asking. I've had a few problems with my medication, but I think it's all sorted now 🤞🤞 I will put the ferns where they're more shaded, as they're coming along nicely now. Thanks for the tip mate. I always feel better when I get the pond covers off, I know summer's on the way. Have a great summer mate, and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry I would put a bit of trellis behind the Pom Pom Bush and encourage the branches through trellis and let it grow to the hight you want it to grow then in the autumn trim it back at the top of the branches to encourage new growth next spring. Your Acer I think needs repotting I don't think it's dead, try repotting and giving it some feed and see how it goes. I hope this helps. Joss
Hi Joss, and thank you for the tips. I did plant the Acer out in the garden today, so fingers crossed. I've been told to get some seaweed based plant food, so I'm going to give that a go, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞 I will get some trellis for the Pom Pom bush, thanks for the tips, have a great summer and take care, Terry.,
Hello Terry 👍😊. Absolutely marvellous to see the covers come off👍👍I’m sure you’ll soon knock the algae into shape🤞👍. Best wishes for the season ahead👍🈲🐟😊
Hi Phil, and thanks mate 👍👍 I must admit, me and the koi feel better once the covers come off lol. I did get a lot of algae out, so I must keep an eye on it in future lol. Take care and have a great summer mate, Terry.
Fish looking great Terry glad the season has started to get better The Acer mite come back give it some pond water and pot it up in a bigger pot in with acer compost
Hi Carol, and thank you. I think me and the koi feel better once the covers come off lol. I did plant the Acer in the garden today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've been told to get some seaweed based plant food for it, so I'll give that a go. Thanks again, and take care, Terry.
Hi mate, and thank you for your kind comments. I didn't realize the pond had got quite that bad with the algae, the covers do tend to hide it. Hopefully it's all sorted now 🤞🤞 thanks again, and take care mate, Terry.
It looks beautiful Terry. Working on the garden here at the moment, hope one day my garden can look as tidy as yours. The whole lot blends in so well. Take care
Hi Lau, knowing you, you'll soon have yours sorted out. I must say, my wife does a lot in our garden, but she's like me, and not any good at growing things 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Lau, have a great summer and take care, Terry.
Get some good quality compost, and a bigger pot, put the tree in the new pot with the compost, and cover the soil with a thick layer of wood chips. And I advise you to cover the soil from all the other garden plants with wood chips as well. Whether they are planted in a pot or not. You will soon notice that the leafs from your plants will look much darker green, and they will be much healthier and resilient against pests and diseases.
Hi mate, and thank you for the advice, it's very much appreciated. I did plant the Acer out in the garden yesterday, as like you say, I think the pot was too small. I will keep you all updated as to how things go with it now. Thanks again for the tips, Terry.
@@Wrighty Get some wood chips and cover the soil from all your plants in the garden with the wood chips. You will be very pleased with the results. It will also protect the plants from water evaporation, but most importantly it is a perfect habitat for micro organisms. And they will help to keep your plants and the soil healthy in many different ways. Really, it is a night and day difference. You will see the most difference after a full season. The plants will start to develop a very dark green color, instead of the pale yellowish color.
High buddy love your video as usual. I’m like you green fingers I haven’t got, but my mrs middle name is Perennial 😀 so here’s some advice. Pom-poms is a bush so take out the canes and cut to shape trim annually. Average will be fine best in ground but defo needs to be in bigger pot will be root bound in that tiny one, ferns need feeding with some feed and will revive, hope this helps. Fish look great.
Hi mate, and thank you, and please thank your wife for the info on the plants for me. It's really appreciated. I can't believe that some of the plants are surviving that I have bought. I usually kill them lol. take care and thank you both, Terry.
Howdy do Terry, same for me this week with the dreaded blanket, had to turn off UV and treat for the blasted FLUKE 😠 ! Pond and garden look great as usual, fish do look as though they are enjoying the weather. Re-pot the Acer, keep out of the wind/breeze, feed/water it twice a week, don't drench it. Take care, have a GREAT Sunday mate.
Hi Mate, I think a lot are having to treat for flukes and parasites. Now I have the covers off, the koi are a lot livelier than they was. I think they were fed up with having them on. Thanks for the info on the Acer, very much appreciated mate. I'll get it sorted today 👍👍👍 thanks again for your help mate, much appreciated. You have a great season, take care, Terry.
Hope your well and over your illness to the meds. I've noticed I always get blanket weed coming out of winter in to spring until the pond temp is above 10 after that I don't get it but I don't heat my pond. As for the Acer tree I would give it time enough just incase it was just a case of bad dehydration and it will get over it! Good luck nice to see the covers off happy ponding thanks for sharing👌👍
Hi Matt, and thanks mate. I'm fine mate thank you. 👍 This is the worst I've had blanket weed for a long time, but soon got it sorted. I have planted the Acer out today, so fingers crossed it'll be ok 🤞🤞 Thanks again mate and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry nice to see covers off.. Season seems to be here and underway at last.. Loads seem to be suffering the old blanket week. I saw it coming quite early and jumped on it.. Touch wood I stopped it in its tracks. 👍👍
Hi Mate, Me and the koi feel so much better with the covers off at last 😁😁 That's right mate, quite a few are telling me they have the same problem with the blanket weed, it's the curse of koi keeping. I thought we would have the covers off way before we did, so I left it, and I ended up with loads lol. Think I've got it sorted now though 🤞🤞🤞 Thanks again mate and take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty I bet you all do. Yeah so. Many have glad your on top off it 🤞🤞😊 I am ready for session just been doing filter house rebuild and change of filteration gone backward but I will get result I want with playing 😂 video coming this week. Same you take care
I’m not a gardener but I struggled with my acer all 2020 and tried everything…. Last year i decided to move it so it was only getting morning sun and it’s doing a lot better, I was admiring it yesterday whilst trimming the old branches back…love your channel 😎
Hi Matt, and thanks mate. I planted mine today, and luckily I've planted it in the shade, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞 Thanks again mate and take care, Terry.
Terry not knowing the variety of Acer? Most (not all) prefer partial shade, & especially a small tree needs protection from strong winds & scorching sun! & as mentioned check under the bark with a knife or strong fingernail, if it’s green keep it, again many Acer varieties, have “die back on twigs & small branches” prune back to healthy branches, but leave a stub of branch above a live leaf node! To allow a limited die back. Don’t let it dry out, but don’t stand it in a pot & tray that holds water, they generally hate having wet feet? Hoping this helps.
Hi mate, and thank you for the info. It's really appreciated. I have now planted the Acer in the garden, and it is in a shaded spot, so keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🤞 I did check under the bark and it looked green 👍👍thanks again for the tips, take care, Terry.
Hi Terry acers like the morning sun and away from any wind. If you have clay soil try replanting in ericaceous compost. I have three in my garden all east facing and sheltered spots.
Thanks for the tips Graham, much appreciated. I did plant the Acer out today so fingers crossed mate 🤞🤞 I have put it in a shaded spot, and also ordered some seaweed based plant food. I let you know how it goes mate. Thanks again and take care, Terry.
Stick the Acer in a bucket of water for a while and also the ferns are they in terracotta pots if so make sure you keep them watered due to terracotta pots dry out faster than plastic pots good luck 👍
Thanks for the tips mate, much appreciated. I did plant the Acer out today so fingers crossed mate 🤞🤞 and I also ordered some seaweed based plant food. I let you know how it goes mate. Thanks, and take care, Terry.
Great to see the covers off Terry, seems a good result with the Algae treatment so far, can’t help with the plants, I’m sure with a search on the internet you would find pruning and care for your Pom Pom bush, as for the other plant that looks dead, I would bend some of the stem and see if it snaps, if it is still alive it should not snap and you would see a green core, happy ponding and hoping for a great season.
Hi Anthony, that's right mate, I'm so pleased to get the covers off at last, and get the season started. I will have a look at the Acer, and if it's still alive, I'll get it planted. Thanks for the info, really appreciated mate 👍👍👍 All the best for the season and I hope it's a good and warm one. you take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty Hi Terry, Just as a matter of interest I have quite a few Acers of which three are around my in ground koi pond, all are planted direct in the garden, they use to be in pots but nearly died, they far prefer to be in the ground and since planting them have come on leaps and bounds and now look stunning, hope this helps a little.
Hi Anthony, that's good to hear mate, as I planted the Acer out in the garden yesterday 👍👍 I'll let you all know how it goes, and thanks mate, much appreciated, Terry.
Hi Terry. Two ways to train the Pom Pom in my opinion.. First way, train it to grown up, rather than spread out. Create a taller frame for it to climb up, and snip off the longer stems. It will become thicker and bushier, but you can keep it taller and less wide that way. The second way is the opposite to the first to be honest.. if you snip the top stems back, it'll grow wider, as much as 8ft. Each time you snip off a stem, it'll produce 2 new stems. So, if you snip it off quite far in (not too far) 2 new stems will grow, and you can snip them to produce more stems. By doing that, you can end up with a nice bushy plant. It should be done after flowering, but not exclusively. You can also cut back random stems to ground level each year. Be warned though, if you don't control its growth, it can become a pain in the arse! lol
Hi Mate, that's great info on the Pom Pom bush, and it's really appreciated. You never know, I might make a gardener after all 🤣🤣🤣 thanks again and you have a good season mate, take care, Terry.
Garden looking very smart Terry, pom pom bush, if you want to grow it to top of fence cut off side shoots by half to a bud or leaf joint, ferns keep moist not wet at all times, Acer take one of side shoots snap in half, if it snaps like a twig and wood inside grey, probably had it, if sap wood is light or green it's still alive, however I would persavire a little longer with it, might come back, hope that helps mate 👍
Hi Mate, I've not forgotten 👍👍 and thank you. That's great info on the plants mate, I thought you'd know what to do 👍👍 Like you say, I'm losing nothing with the Acer as I got a refund. They tried to tell me I'd let it get frost damage, but when I pointed out that the picture I sent them was taken the same day of arrival, they had to give me a refund. Thanks again mate, and have a great season 👍👍, take care, Terry.
Welcome to spring. So nice to see the covers finally off and the plants starting to bloom. Just wondering who si more happy to see those covers removed, you or the koi? 🙂 🙂 🙂
Hi Ken, that's right mate, the koi were well happy 😂😂 I must admit, I do love this time of year 👍👍 Just wish I knew a bit more about gardening 🤔🤔🤣 Thanks again and take care, Terry.
Hi Terry, the dreaded string algae that I think a lot of us are feeling the same pain😩. With respect to the acer I would check to see if under the bark is green. Just scratch a bit away with your nail at the base of the tree. If it’s green you should be ok but I would also get it in the ground asap. Re Pom Pom, not sure on that I’m afraid. 🤔 Nice to see the pond and garden looking good 👍
Hi Si, and thanks for the info, it's really appreciated mate. I will check the Acer out and get it planted if it's ok. I think the string algae drives us all crazy mate 😁🙃 😁 thanks again, and take care, Terry.
Re- pot your Acer in ericaceous compost - young Acers don't do too well in ordinary compost. Once established you could transplant straight to the ground but fill the hole with ericaceous compost too. Never let a pot grown Acer get dry!
Hi Mike, and thank you for the info mate, very much appreciated. They tried to tell me I'd let it get a frost, but when I pointed out that the picture I sent them was taken the same day of arrival, they had to give me a refund. Thanks again and take care mate, Terry.
Scrape on the bark, if green it’s alive. Trim back a bit, plant it in a larger pot with new soil and water it. Give it at list 2-3 weeks and see what’s happening. Good luck.
Thanks for the info Anne, very much appreciated. I have now planted it in the garden, so I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks again and take care, Terry.
Great to finally see the covers off your shusui from jki really has grown over winter he's massive 😍 not sure on the pom pom tree but if it was me I would just trim it as you see fit but someone may know more, in regards to the acer cut a small branch if its still green it has a chance keep it in a shady spot water it every day repot it with new soil the acid type that's about as much as you can do if you want to feed it best feed for acers is a seaweed based plant food if you've seen any of my recent videos on my new Japanese garden you would have seen my acers are thriving hope that helps 👍
Hi Jamie, I think me and the koi feel better once the covers come off lol. That's right mate, the shusui has doubled in size over winter, and growing really well. He's catching the others up lol. Thanks for the tips on the plants mate, it's really appreciated. I did plant the Acer today and it is in a shady spot down the bottom of the garden. I did scrape a little bit of bark off, and it was green underneath, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed mate 🤞🤞🤞 I will have a look for some seaweed based plant food and give it a try mate thanks. Have a great summer, and take care mate, Terry.
I know mate, they were driving me crazy. The koi looked really happy to get them off as well, I think they were thinking the same 🤣🤣🤣 take care mate, Terry.
Hi Dave, Be nice to put my feet up lol. There's always lots to do at the start of summer, as you'll know mate. But we love it 👍👍 thanks and take care mate, Terry.
If you've got an Aldi near you, they're selling Acer's for £11.99 and they're around 1m tall (I got 2 both around 110cm). Glad you're feeling better and your garden and pond are beautiful 👍
Hi Marcia, we've just had a look on there website for the one near us, but their not showing any, I'll give them a ring, and thank you for the tip off. And thank you for your kind comments, very much appreciated. Take care, Terry.
have you ever thought of using pond water through yor power washer you could sctuallyuse patio scrubber on bottom of pond ive had great results this way no treatments required hope this helps regards Derek.
Hi Derek, I haven't thought of using the patio scrubber on my pond. I did try it on the pond walls, but it didn't work, the pressure nozzles stopped spinning. Does yours still spin underwater? Thanks mate, Terry.
Hi mate, and thank you. I do try to get as much algae out as possible before a treatment, or you just end up with it dead in your filters. I think I got it sorted now 🤞🤞🤞 thanks for the info on the bush mate, much appreciated, take care, Terry.
I've got one of those Jet Sprays too Terry. Great bit of kit. You're right a lot of the deterrent is the noise it makes. I'd hold on to the Acer for a while. It might pick up and if it doesn't you haven't lost anything.
Hi Jim, I wouldn't want to be without mine now, and I can't believe how old it is, and still going. I think your right mate, I'm going to plant the Acer out and see how it goes, and like you say, it didn't cost me anything, and I do love a freebie 😅😅😅have a great season, and take care mate, Terry.
Could I ask question about the jet spray please. Do you connect them to an outside tap or do you tap the water supply off your pumped water? Thanks in advance.
Hi Jerry, and thank you. There are several reasons I cover my pond in the winter. The main one is because I heat my pond, and keep it at 16c throughout the winter. If I didn't heat it, I would still have the covers on, because number 1, it stops big overnight temperature swings, which are not good for koi, and number 2, as you say, it keeps herons out. We do suffer from herons in this area. Hope this helps mate, Take care, Terry.
Hi Lisa, and thank you for the tip. I did plant the Acer in the garden today, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞 I've been told to get some seaweed based plant food, so I'll give that a go as well. Thanks again, take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty Fingers crossed 🤞, I luv Acers have atm about 5 I'd have more but my garden is tiny, Your pond n garden are just beautiful I'm very jealous .
I must say, the wife does a lot in the garden as far as cleaning and cutting the grass. She's not one for planting and growing things, trouble is neither am I 🤣🤣🤣 thanks again and take care, Terry.
Hi Richard, and thank you. Have a look at this video of how I made the brackets for the baskets. The info on the brackets starts at point 7:40 on the video, if you don't want to watch the first part: th-cam.com/video/10RxTBdoyGc/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps mate, Terry.
Is that covers on and water temp warm than a pond which is not heated and covered … makes your blanket weed grow better and sooner than my pond which is not heated and never covered ? What do you think ?
Hi Arthur, I soon got the algae sorted out mate, and the pond covers are mainly to help stop rapid water temperature drops if we get a cold spell, which are not good for the koi. The heater just shortens the winter for them. We all have our own way of doing things in this hobby. Terry.
Hey Terry. I hope you are well 😄 I’ve used Clover leaf and it killed off half my blanket weed. What was a good start. Unlike you, I left my RDF on what was probably not the best idea. How long do you turn yours off for in total. I know you put it back on in this vid. But do you turn it off again, say then next day? Keep the vids coming. I really enjoyed your pottering and DIY 😄👍🏼 Paul
Hi Paul, and thank you. I turned my RDF and filters off for about 1 1/2 hours, just to give some of it a chance to settle. I can't have them off for long, as my shower and moving bed need the water flow to keep the bacteria going. By the time I've left it overnight, the RDF has taken most of the Cloverleaf out lol. Thanks again mate, really appreciated, take care, Terry.
Hi Ray, I have thought about it mate, but the trouble is, most of my koi are getting quite big, so it would have to be quite a big tank for them to get in. Another thing is, my pond has a liner, and to put a lot of weight on that would be quite risky, so I thought better of it lol. Take care mate, Terry.
@@Wrighty Thanks for the reply Tel. I know what you mean re the liner, my pond is the same and I have the same concerns. That said, I'm not sure if you've seen, but Andy at Koipondlifestyle has recently installed a new one, and the rigid frame that he has designed looks very much like it sends all of the weight vertically onto the horizontal part of the surrounding wall. Anyway, just a thought and as always, good to talk mate.
Ferns are pretty hard to kill , they always come back.. the acacia, if the stems are still supple and won't snap then it's still alive. Try putting it in a bigge pot and loosen the roots ;)
Hi mate, thanks for the tips. I did plant the Acer out today, so we'll see how it goes. I would like it to survive, but I'm very good at killing things. My trouble is I tend to over do things a bit and kill them with kindness. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.
The japonica will shoot from the bottom and will grow 4to 5 ft you can just support each shoot as they grow up. Keep the acer moist but not wet if the ends are dead they'll go white and brittle cheers 👍
Thanks Andy, much appreciated mate. I did plant it out in the garden yesterday, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞 it survives. Thanks again for the advice mate, Terry.
Hi Terry, Great to see the covers off! On another topic, you might remember that I mentioned I'm going to be replacing my 3 barrel midi system with a drum filter this year. After much consideration I've decided that I don't have your ability to build the one from the plans, I'm very much monkey see monkey do. Therefore, I was wondering if you'd consider maybe in your next vid putting up a very basic picture of an idiots guide to your set up. Just showing which pumps feed which parts and how it's all interconnected e.g. Baki, Fines filter, Drum filter, Skimmer etc etc. Feel free to tell me to sod off Tel as I know you've covered this extensively over the years with all the vids...... Best as always
Hi Ray, and thanks mate. It is good to see the covers off, and I think the koi are a lot happier as well. I will go into my setup for you in my next video mate, no problem 👍👍 I'll see if I can get something drawn up, then you can pause it and do a screen capture of it. There are one or two want to know about how I have my filter's setup. Not a problem mate, I'll get it sorted 👍👍 take care, Terry.

Great video Terry. I've taken my covers off too. Lovely to see then fish fully again isn't it. 👍
Hi Phil, and thank you. I think when I took my covers off, the koi were as happy as I was lol. Take care mate, Terry.
Hi Terry, a lovely restful video treat as ever. My ecosystem fish pond does not get any blanket weed, I have a great natural skimmer (intake bay).
Hi mate, and thank you for your kind comments. I didn't realize the pond had got quite that bad with the algae, the covers do tend to hide it. Hopefully it's all sorted now 🤞🤞 thanks again, and take care mate, Terry.
Hi terry your garden and pool look amazing . Great to have the covers off 👍👍👍
Hi Craig, and thank you. I think me and the koi are both well happy mate. take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty there is still so much to do here .. but hey... Hope to get it at least tidy by the summer. The rest, I will build when money is there 😊
Just take your time, it will all come right in the end 👍👍it took me and the wife 5 years 😥😏take care, Terry.
@@Wrighty Will do Terry. Thank you
Great update terry fish looking good bet you so happy for the covers to be off. Take care. Jamie.
Hi Jamie, I think me and the koi are really pleased to get the covers off lol. They look much happier now. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.
Thanks for the info, I will get some wood chip and add as you say, thanks againg Terry.
I hate it when predictive text changes the words, meant Acer not average
Hope all goes well with the new filter house build mate 👍👍 Terry.
Hi terry great update and blanket weed is a nightmare and even worse when it dead and starts peeling off in chunks. Stay safe Andy 👍
Hi Andy, blanket weed is the curse of koi keeping, but I think I've got it sorted now though 🤞🤞🤞 thanks mate and take care, Terry.
Hi Ken, that's right mate, the koi were well happy 😂😂 I must admit, I do love this time of year 👍👍 Just wish I knew a bit more about gardening 🤔🤔🤣
Thanks again and take care, Terry.
Looks great 👍🏻
Thanks Sandy, much appreciated, Terry.
Stick your Acer in the ground Terry, get yourself some liquid seaweed and feed it that, soon bounce back👍 That seaweed is brilliant for all plants
And your grass by the way if you ever need it
Thanks Paul, I will look into the liquid seaweed mate, sounds interesting 👍👍 take care, Terry.
agree with Paul. best thing I did too. started to take cuttings of mine now as it soon shot up
Scrape on the bark, if green it’s alive.
I didn't think those covers would ever come off. I guess the blossom had all dropped. Stay safe mate
I know mate, they were driving me crazy. The koi looked really happy to get them off as well, I think they were thinking the same 🤣🤣🤣 take care mate, Terry.
Great video terry take easy mate put feet up 👍
Hi Dave, Be nice to put my feet up lol.
Hovering the blanket weed is an idea I thought wouldn't work but the evididence is clear to see. I would leave the bush and prune it next spring.
Hi Andy, They're connected to the mains outside tap mate. Terry.
Very nice and enjoyable thank you for your post, I am wondering why you are covering the pond. Is it to protect against predators like birds etc?
Hi Jerry, and thank you. There are several reasons I cover my pond in the winter. The main one is because I heat my pond, and keep it at 16c throughout the winter. If I didn't heat it, I would still have the covers on, because number 1, it stops big overnight temperature swings, which are not good for koi, and number 2, as you say, it keeps herons out. We do suffer from herons in this area. Hope this helps mate, Take care, Terry.
Hi , about the Acer try reporting it in some ericaceous soil maybe trim back to bud 😊 also as someone else has said try scrapping the bark ...
Hi Lisa, and thank you for the tip. I did plant the Acer in the garden today, so fingers crossed 🤞🤞 I've been told to get some seaweed based plant food, so I'll give that a go as well. Thanks again, take care, Terry.

Looks stunning
Thanks Ryan, always appreciated mate, Terry.
Terry.
Hey Terry. I hope you are well 😄
I’ve used Clover leaf and it killed off half my blanket weed. What was a good start. Unlike you, I left my RDF on what was probably not the best idea. How long do you turn yours off for in total. I know you put it back on in this vid. But do you turn it off again, say then next day? Keep the vids coming. I really enjoyed your pottering and DIY 😄👍🏼
Paul
Hi Paul, and thank you. I turned my RDF and filters off for about 1 1/2 hours, just to give some of it a chance to settle. I can't have them off for long, as my shower and moving bed need the water flow to keep the bacteria going. By the time I've left it overnight, the RDF has taken most of the Cloverleaf out lol. Thanks again mate, really appreciated, take care, Terry.
Hi Terry
I was just wondering if you had ever thought of installing one of those upside down aquarium viewing towers on your pond?
Good job Terry
My pond suddenly went milky it’s that might be fish star spawning? I have same story every year
Thanks mate, Yes, they can make a mess of the water when they spawn, but it shows they're happy 👍👍 take care mate, Terry.
The japonica will shoot from the bottom and will grow 4to 5 ft you can just support each shoot as they grow up. Keep the acer moist but not wet if the ends are dead they'll go white and brittle cheers 👍
