OMG, Zac I’ve been watching all your current videos. And you are so young here! I love that you have been giving such great advice for so many years! Can’t wait to teach Link this!
this is beautiful communication and companionship. my favorite thing about your videos is that not all the dogs are YOUR dogs. they are in training or have none. now gonna have to train myself to follow thru!
I really like the way you teach dogtraining, that is all about communicating with the dog not trying to be the dominant one. If the dog understand you, and you are clear with what you want out of the dog. Thank you Zak, awesome videos and really educational.
I've really enjoyed your last few videos Zak! It's great to see you and the dogs in action instead of just hearing your advice. You are in your element here. Thanks!!!
I can't tell you how much I love the expression on Venus' face when you're telling her she's gonna learn a new trick! So darn cute. I have 2 Mini Aussies and have been starting to use some of your strategies to get them to focus on me.
Zak, really liking the recent videos. It seems you've found a really good balance between theory (which was heavily focused on in your videos for a while) and practice, and incorporating them seamlessly into your videos. Keep up the good work you're doing for people and their pets.
i love that your dog seems to be learning this right now(err in 2012). A lot of other people's videos aren't helpful because their dog already knows the trick and performs them perfectly. thank you for the more realistic training video!~
Great videos! In addition to the fact that you are obviously very good at working with dogs, your delivery style is wonderfully energetic! Keep making these!
before getting your new dog, make sure you are prepared for house training! go to onlinedogtraining .us and use their methods from day one for a stress free start
Someone I work with was just asking me how to train their dogs to do this exact thing. I tried to explain in words but you know how that goes. I sent this link to her to hopefully help her a little more. Thanks Zak!
My dog learned it super fast. And even stayed on it! (He knows the stay command). Now time to move to the next challenge of cooking dinner with him on his Mark! 🙈Thanks for the video!
Venus is a beauty! My puppy gets it pretty well too, thanks to you, I'm really happy I've found your channel. Also only four months old, and we've got the potty training done, so a million thanks Zak!
Ive used this method before for “bang, play dead” and “crawl” it’s a very effective technique as long as you don’t use negative commands. High value toys and treats are key, but like he is implying don’t start off with too much so they don’t get confused. 10/10
even though i don't have a dog, i love to watch your video's. you are so smart when it comes to teaching dogs or just dogs in general. one day i will buy my own border collie because of you zak :)
I love all your videos !!! I'm getting a Scottish terrier soon and I want to know everything like tricks etc. you're really great !! Can someone/people help me with more tips !! And stuff you can do with scotties !!!
This guy is great at this.No excuses to have an untrained dog now that this guys giving lessons.HEY BRO,CAN YOU DO THIS WITH PITBULLS TOO?Cause those dogs owners need to be learning from you.
Hi Zac. Big fan. I use you techniques and your style resonates with me. We’ve had five dogs in addition to fostering dogs and raising five successful adults. I’m used to training, communication, routines etc. I’ve got a ten month old Corgidoodle who has started marking people. Yikes! It appears to be the owners of the dogs he enjoys most. It’s so hard to keep my eyes on him CONSTANTLY while at the park or with others and this is when this happens. He not neutered yet, though will be. He’s incredibly smart and energetic. Unfortunately, he’s not very affectionate. No licking or kissing though will roll over for a tummy rub and wags his tail and is always friendly along with being very social. Smudge is not a cuddler. We refer to his personality as being almost cat like. Just thought I’d share these parts of his personality because somehow it might be pertinent. I feel as though I’m giving him enough stimulation and exercise. I don’t think this is the issue though. What are your thoughts? I’m embarrassed to go to our usual dog park because his marking has happened about 7-8 time over the past week or so. This happened yesterday at a new area with different people, HELP!
Thanks for you “heart “. This is quite a problem and Im thoroughly embarrassed by his actions. Could you please comment or refer to somewhere I could get advice on teaching him new behavior away from essentially urinating (a little bit) on certain individuals. Is this perhaps a phycological issue or anxiety ? If so, what kind of training should I use?
Thanks so much for the video Zak! :) I'm definitely going to teach my dog this. I think it will become very helpful. I always enjoy watching your videos and dogs. Keep up the amazing work! :)
what i would say to do is to hold the treat, and dont give it to her until eventually she makes eye contact with you... even if it is only for a split second. my dog ended up looking back and forth between the treat and my eyes so i didnt give it to him until he gave me a slightly longer eye contact period. i slowly increased this and eventually added in some tempting movement of the treat. hope this helps
Some dogs are easier to train than others. For instance my Golden Retriever takes a lunch hour or less to learn a new trick. Touch was one she picked up on without really any help which was weird. I held out my hand and said touch and she did it. Spinning in a circle took a couple days for her to fully get but a lunch hour for her to start understanding. Whereas through my legs took a good 3 days.
Border Collies, man. Once you get to teaching them extensively, they tend to get the hang of it quickly. Especially if you have a good reward. My dog, Sadie, learned to shake in 2 repetitions. That's all it took. He also has 'lie down' taught, and his 'stay' is so crisp it could be an apple dessert.
Hey Zak awesome video once more!!Can you tell me if you've made any vid on how to teach your dog to actually grab(his toys, a frisbie or anything).I got my dogs when they where already adults and they don't know how to play cause they where hunting dogs...I've tried and all they've learned is to touch the toys when I ask them to...some times they go like biting them but imidiatelly let go...Should I keep trying it that way or you got any idea that would help more??I'd appreciate any help... : )
Sooooo, I was mildly impressed with my pet duck, but after hearing the point response fact, I'm super impressed. My Indian runner duck responds to point. Maybe she learned it from my dog lol
if you want your dog to be really good at Frisbee and just starting to train 11 week old puppy. in what order should I teach each tricks, set, lay, stay, roll over, fetch, ect, ect???? Do you have a video or could you make one on each step in order? Thank you for what you do!!! your the best!!!
@Halie wolfe, this is a great thing to train, but it takes tons of patience. Eventually, she will look at you, if only for a split second. Reward her right at that moment then start waitin again. Kikopup has a great series on attention that would be great for you. Good luck!
I'm astounded... Could this video be linked in the description of go to your bed? It seems like a good place to start and set up the go to your bed training... Or maybe that's just my dog???
Have you ever worked on a focus? Keep treats either off you, in a treat pouch or pocket, and wait until your dog looks in your general direction. When they do, click or say ''yes'' and treat. Take a second or two to get your treat as well so that your dog makes the connection with the behavior marker. When they get that, wait until the dog looks at your face and eventually your eyes. Once you have that, add a cue "watch'' or ''focus''. This will help the dog focus on you and not treats.
Not sure from whom you learned editing, perhaps the Brits, but this video was edited VERY professionally! (or maybe you had some other 'professional help as there was a very good camera person, also)
I'm getting a dog but what type of dog would you recommend that's best for not just training but personality. Just for a question but do you think a Bernese mountain dog would be the right one with a happy go lucky personality???🐶
Thank you for sharing this video. My dog know the command place but if she gets distracted with my other dog or a person she just gets off. How can I keep her in space with out her getting off.
All 3 of his dogs are Border Collies. :) Border Collies come in all different colors, sizes and variations. There is a vast difference in AKC BC's and working BC's, therefore there is not as much of a "Standard" if that makes sense. Both prick ears and rose ears, or floppy ears are acceptable.
To Drpdeeznutz. Alpha is a Border Collie Venus I believe is a Border Collie as well And Super Nova looks and I can relate to the coloring that she is a Australian Shepard.
I have a dog, a black lab mixed with pit. My aunt and uncle need a home for their springer spaniel, I want to help. But my dog, inside our house is very mean to other dogs, territorial I would call it. How do I introduce them in a way that makes them able to be buddies and live together in my home? I am starting this today. And my dog is a female dog, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
BTW, one of her dogs is deaf. Is there any information you could offer to help her to better communicate with this dog? I have explained how important teaching eye contact is with any dog and it would seem even more important with one who is deaf. She wants to get a vibrating collar. What do you think about this, please. Thanks in advance. Peace!
How can you teach it two dogs? for example, i go by myself outside with my two dogs. should i tie one and train the other? or should i go outside with just one??

Venus made me laugh in this one! She reminds me of my boyfriend's dog, whenever she knows she's getting a treat she immediately lays downs and waits to be told to roll over.
Take the treat and hold it to your eye and make your command " look at me" or something along those lines. Gradually take the treat away... and there you have it.
when I taught my dog this trick I had to put her rope in the middle of the towel to get her to do it. other than that she now knows it. for some of you having problems with it try and either put her food ot toy in the middle of whatever you are trying to get him to go to.
I might be getting a new dog, and i'm going to teach him this, but at a much larger scale, I'm going to teach him to go all the way home from my school (my school is only a block away from my house) so he can walk to school with me.
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't all three Border Collies? Super Nova looks like a blue merle Border to me, he doesn't look like he has the stocky build of an Aussie? But I could be wrong, I don't actually have one so I wouldn't know >.>
Going to try this this, but I have this issue. My dog won't come to me unless I have something to give her. E.G Intresting toy, or food. I've really enjoyed your last few videos Zak! It's great to see you and the dogs in action instead of just hearing your advice. You are in your element here. Thanks!!!
Is this one of your dogs? Can you make a bonus video of your dogs' tricks. I bet you have the most incredible communication with your dogs!

Awesome! My papillon caught on super quick. I was able to teach him "place" within 20 minutes! Love your training methods
What would the world do without Zak George and his dog training!
Great videos! In addition to the fact that you are obviously very good at working with dogs, your delivery style is wonderfully energetic! Keep making these!
I been watching almost all you videos, I would really love to have the same connection with my puppy. Thank you for making this video.

I have a playlist on how to teach your dog the basics in order. See my channel.
wow, this is great! I was just about to ask you a question about exactly this!!
Never mind I just slipped it all your comments you've got way too much going now good job though
I love seeing a toy reward! I always was wondering how that would be

hey zak i think you could also throw the frisbee to that spot when working with distance , what do you think ?

try holding the treat up next to your eyes, beside your face - i remember zak mentioning that in an old video
Great trick my dog is still learning though
How can you teach it two dogs? for example, i go by myself outside with my two dogs. should i tie one and train the other? or should i go outside with just one??
I like it
Holy smokes, that was insane.
Please make a video how to teach dogs the multiplication table
Zac...For how long time are working with your dog??
we have a two year old brown working cocker spaniel,
she has a poop and wee outside the back door,
but we are trying to get her to go at the bottom of the garden with our older spaniel.
how can we get her to do this, i feel very sad when we have to scold her for pooping by the back door,, but it makes the house smell of urine in the summer.
we hope you can give us some advice.

Venus made me laugh in this one! She reminds me of my boyfriend's dog, whenever she knows she's getting a treat she immediately lays downs and waits to be told to roll over.

I think that dog knew that skill before the video was made. I would like to see a dog that does to know that skill.
I might be getting a new dog, and i'm going to teach him this, but at a much larger scale, I'm going to teach him to go all the way home from my school (my school is only a block away from my house) so he can walk to school with me.
That isn't a great idea. There are leash laws that make it illegal. Also it's unsafe for your dog, he could easily get hit by a car.
That would be so cool but you shouldn't let it walk home alone
Lol u can teach him to go fetch your mail from the mail man and come back
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't all three Border Collies? Super Nova looks like a blue merle Border to me, he doesn't look like he has the stocky build of an Aussie? But I could be wrong, I don't actually have one so I wouldn't know >.>
Going to try this this, but I have this issue. My dog won't come to me unless I have something to give her. E.G Intresting toy, or food.
I've been using this long line (20 meters) And I've usually let her just go, and then call her by name and whe she responds to her name, I say come. She will not come unless I have the leech on here, because she knows if I do not have a leach, I am not able to correct her. Got any ideas on how to train come, even with distractions.
have you try with a clicker ? :) It really draws their action :)
My dog is pretty easy to train...but when I ask him to back up he barks at me while he does it. Is there a good way to encourage him to stop barking while doing this?
I know zaks secret channel...
wow!
