    I just found your channel a day ago and I binge watching your channel. I get a 37 miles to a gallon on my 2006 2.5t S60. This is when I come back late at night from parents home in Wisconsin to my place in Illinois doing 70 and I am burning regular gas

    2:00 very common brake master cylinder leak (assuming there is no air into the system). Always release the caliper bleeders when pressing back the pistons to make place for new pads or discs so the master cylinder seals don't get damaged.
    While there may as well monitor the brake fluid level because when the clutch slave cylinder starts leaking (and ruining the clutch and the DMF pressure plate) it first starts leaking brake fluid under the transmission.

    Such a beauty for only 2500$, great deal :) Are you going to do some restoration of leather seats? They look very worn and i see most volvo's seats of that generation have a lot of cracks. Are you going to keep this car or sell it?

    Bro the brake thing is completely normal. The vacuum just exaggerates your input from your foot so without it you'll have to push a lot harder which is why it's stiff. To test it pump the break until it's hard when the engine is off, then with your foot on the break hard start then engine. You'll notice to pedal go done a lot more. It's normal

    My mother has a 2007 xc90 v8 r design with 170k miles! It's holding up pretty well. The current mechanical problem right now is whenever you shift out of park it makes a "click" noise. It's a great, and reliable car I'd say. I like this series and can't wait to see more of it!

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo that click noise can be cv joints or the front lower control arm bushings

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo I totally forgot to include in this video that my CV axle bolts were loose. Look into “axle ping” and see if that sounds like the clunk (if that’s what you mean instead of click. Click makes me thing of a computer mouse click sound). Ping is most likely the Swedish word for clunk. That helped my clunk a lot. Autos exhibit this sound when shifting from park to drive or reverse.

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Bello I heard ipd makes an axle bolts that have a rubber cone like bushing that help keep the ping down and add comfort.

      David Bello, Rex Nihof I searched up here on TH-cam of axle ping, and it sounds exactly like the "clunk" her XC90 makes. I will look into replacing what needs to be replaced. Since I don't know a whole lot about Volvo's, I was thinking that the transmission was making that noise, but thank god it isn't that. Thank you very much for the help!

      By the way how is it to drive the v90? i havent driven it more then 30 km/h and that was at Volvo. When i worked there last year. I have only driven the xc60 which behaves just like the xc90 only smaller.

    Hi David
    I have been watching your TH-cam videos about your S60R. Great to watch, good work!!
    I have a question: In video 1, you mentioned that you could sense the engine moving when lifting off the gas or changing gear. My car which shares many parts with yours does exactly the same. I cannot see mention of that problem in the later vids. Did you fix it?? I know that the top engine brace bar moves - they all do that - Im sure that this is not the fix. Ive had these cars for 20 years Im certain thats not the issue. Neither is it the common driveshaft end ' ping '
    Id appreciate it if you could share a fix.
    Keep up the great videos
    Cheers,
    Kelvin

      Hi Kelvin,
      After 20 years all the motor mounts are probably worn enough to allow wiggling. So I would start there. And the transmission brace at the bottom front. Good luck and thanks for watching 😎

      Marius Nerbø I’m definitely going to check the oil level first and top up before getting too involved in replacing things. The mount is available from many places but this one I got from RMEuropean in California because they had the best price 😁👌

      David Bello to test the pump you only need to loosen the connectot and use two wires from a 12v battery just touch each vire at the connector if you hear a sound it’s ok. I live in Norway and have not seen them here.

    David I cannot believe, you g9t a newer volvo , are those cars troublesone, I can understand, you have to change brakenpads, the disc or rotor, if the pads are only metal, & then if they make contac with the disc or rotor, eventually, it*s going to affect the brakes, but do they still use the triangular pattern, like the 740/760, where if you didn*t have problems, with one wheel, you still have the other 3, except, you would have to apply a little more force, but when the disc or rotor, doesn*t like the wagner, brake pads, or rotor, that*s like saying if it ain*t name brand, I don*t want it, as to that light in the dashboard don*t you have to erase the code in order to reset it with the new pads & rotors, as to the rims, there*s a mag wheel wax or cleaner which might correct & bring back the luster to those rims, some of the brands, that might work, are, Mothers, Meguiars, & some others I don*t remember.

    The trip meter resetting is a software bug with 2003.5-2004 P2 cars. My fiancé's '04 S80 does the same thing every once in a while when she goes up fill the tank.

    How do the s/v70's compare to the s60's? How does ride quality, build quality, maintenance etc... Differ? Thinking about buying an s60 t5 but don't know if I can justify paying 3x the price of an s70 t5.

    • @kellypaws
      @kellypaws 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've driven the 850, which is basically an S70 with an older style interior and I have an S60 and V70 T5.
      My take is that the 850 / S70 handle better, but feel old fashioned. The turning circle of all S60s is tragic. The build quality is really the same. The electrics tend to be weak on any Volvos I've owned (post 240/740 era). I'd have the S60/V70 P2 car purely because it's going to be newer and hopefully less worn and more modern inside. As regards how they drive, I don't think there's a great deal in it. Oh, unless you like an auto. The older autos have less speeds and aren't as good as the P2's autos. Flip side the, the Mitsubishi and Asin auto boxes in the P2s break if they are abused in any way. P2 with a tow bar, I'd run away.

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kellypaws p2 with a towbar? Mine comes with a factory towing package. It’s a 5 speed auto with the 2.4 NA engine and it’s from 99. Should I be concerned if my grandfather (original owner) used it to tow things? It has an AW55-51 automatic transmission.

    • @Fille3133
      @Fille3133 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SRT Viper 51 rhr s60 is alot more modern in the way they drive. A s70 feels more like an older mechanical car. Both great but it depends on what you prefer older 90's cars or "modern" cars. And also no awd option for the s70. I have a s70 t5, a s60 regular t5 and a "awd" s60r. All great cars.

      Having owned a couple from each generation, from the 70s to early 2000s,

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say Volvo improved with each one. The P80 generation feels very solid but that might be tactile because the door skins are thicker. I believe they put that weight savings in the P2 into more crash safety reinforcement. Of course the overall safety is improved. Electronics are a little worse (ETMs we’re not on 98 models, and never failed, but they were mostly fixed by 2004. Clusters on the p80s didn’t burn out and need xemodex like P2s do. But both generations had brake modules fail). Turning radius is a lot better on any model with 16 inch wheels. Our s80 and 02 S60 did have really smooth rides compared to my v70t5 from 99 but I may be romanticising the past. I may also just prefer the smaller cabin size and translate the lack of clunks and echo to better comfort. Both generations have solid interiors but more thin and breakable plastics on the p80 years. The p2 plastics in the center console aren’t great though. It’s a very close race. The best thing you could do is get behind the wheel of both. Local small sales places could accommodate if they carry older years. I don’t see myself getting back into anything older than this car for a while. At least not from Volvo. Another consideration is the older cars will largely be less maintained and more neglected so it could also be a case of saving money purchasing to equate more repairs to get back to zero with an older car. That’s been my experience so I’m happy to be moving up into later model years and save me some work. If the p80 was the e34 generation, the p2 is e39. More electrical failures but more fun. (Ps some other common failures in the older generation: door switches, door hinges in the wind, ignition tumbler (I’m sure the later years too) but never a sunroof unlike all p2s) happy hunting.

  • @rex_s80
    @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe the car pulling that way with the wheel pointing the opposite way can be the front subframe shifting because they have very soft bushings with a big gap to allow for comfort, IPD makes a ploy insert so it tightens up. This is if the car does it on both sides of a slanted roads. For the brakes my car does the same it it needs a new master cylinder so yours maybe on the way out. After the trip try to give the car three days of rest, hopefully it will be cold enough that the fluid is thick enough and the pedal will feel completely different if the master cylinder is bad the first time you hit the brake (try not to touch the brake before your get moving). I did this and because the fluid was completely cold and it gave time for everything to setttle, when I used the brakes, the pedal was super stiff and felt like a new car and locked all my wheels at 1/4 input of the pedal and the fluid quickly warmed up an returned to being soft and being able to hit the floor. When I turn off the engine and release the extra vacuum assist I can barely press the pedal, it feels like the pedal will break. Just my experiences and hope it helps. For the engine clunking, it can be the lower torque rod (I think that is what it’s called), they are known to fail and will cause a lot of noise. Loved the end clip, lol.

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rex Nihof I always wondered what the purpose of the subframe inserts was. I never looked it up though. I did notice the pull right after an alignment so I called and it’ll have to go back in next week. Also Thanks for the tip. Instead of three days I will try three weeks and see how it feels on my next drive. 🤘

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Bello yeah, the longer it settles the more noticeable it was for me. I was sick so I wasn’t able to drive it for 5 days and there is a stop sign like 50 ft from my house and I locked up the brakes as my dad was leaving and he heard them squeal. It was shocking and felt like the brakes from our 2011 Tiguan.
